Class of 2023 C Owen Freeman (IL) Portal from Creighton

If this kid is healthy, I would sign up for him in a second. Crieghton did. They didn't like the return because he was hurt. They can say naything they want about it later. Is he the perfect player? Nope. But he averaged 16 17 pts a game as a young guy in the big 10. I want to repeat that. He scored 16 17 pts a game in the Big 10. And he rebounded a bit to.
Yup. Yet, I don't think we should readily dismiss out of hand the issues mentioned from the posters/fans with ties to the Creighton program. I'm assuming the staff has done the due diligence to get a handle on that if they had him campus.

Objectively, you have a 6-10 big who was the freshman of the year in BiG and then averaged 17/7 over the 19 games he played in his sophomore season before the finger injury. That's proven production not only in the P5, but in one of best leagues. Because of the way his season played out at Creighton, you now have the chance to add proven productivity like that for a player we would not be able to afford had he lived up to his Iowa stats. Lightening in a bottle scenario IF he returns to form. Although I suspect his NIL will still need to be $1M+

You’re leaving out parts Omaha. He had clearly lost his starting spot in December and Creighton had started the season 5-5 with a Q3 loss. They had very little to no path to the tourney by late Jan with the big east being so bad in the non con

From what I can tell online from creighton fans. He was out of shape, hurt himself in a pickup basketball game and his parents are a little much. Fans say he checked out when he got benched and just collected his checks.

Could be more but having a whacked out parent or two or uncle is not the craziest thing we’ve seen here ha
Two other starters were benched too. Those players played worse than him.

You are correct, he hurt himself in the summer and had a scope for a meniscus tear. He was not 100% healthy until 1/4-1/2 through the season. I saw it all with my own eyes from practice, to preseason, to post season, every game in person or on TV. Only games I missed were while attending SU games:) 2 other players were not benched for the season. He is a good hard working kid, he did not check out and he 100% does not have parent issues. Sometimes things just don't work out for many reasons, JJ, Kaleb Joseph, Benny Williams, etc…

Freeman was among the most efficient big men in the country the past two seasons at Iowa, impressing with his rate numbers as a freshman then blossoming as a sophomore to the tune of 16.7 points and 6.7 rebounds before sitting out the final six weeks because of a finger injury. He also underwent knee surgery over the summer, but when healthy, will be tasked with replacing third-team All-American Ryan Kalkbrenner. -- Borzello

Why did you say the part about parent issues

Little more digging. AI can pretty easily scour the Creighton message boards just FYI.

Locker room issues with his teammates rumored. He showed up late to the program with a knee injury that was still lingering. After he was benched he checked out.

Just a month ago in March he missed more time for an undisclosed issue or injury but no one is saying what. Comments say the veteran players who were paid peanuts compared to his 1.8 mil didn’t want him on the court and wanted nothing to do with him. With the tourney out of sight by a longshot he didn’t want to hurt his knee more.

Seems like he made some mistakes from a standpoint not disclosing his injury and being in shape but also got paid. Hard to fault him a ton since it happens all the time in the nil game.

Why ? He says it’s not injury. You’re the most sensitive and politically correct person on the board
Hey now that's unfair to bnoro, as well as the contingent of posters that hang out on the secret off topic board, where we posters are free to express our sensitivity and political correctness.

Because another poster mentioned having a crazy uncle or parent….just stating he is a good kid with a good family.

Ahh, I was a bit confused. Earlier it appeared you said he was healthy all season. That said I think Creighton had a lot of other problems outside of him. The entire team tanked to start the season. Transfers sometimes bomb out. Look at AJ Storr after he left Wisconsin. It’s why I say Louisville is guaranteed nothing.

Good work here. This is a symptom of the NIL disease and far from the first kid to be a bit of a pariah upon arrival because of an NIL deal that towers over everyone else. If a kid can play and is healthy and then comes in as no longer the guy with the deepest pockets the entire environment is going to be much different.

I think if they can iron these issues out (big if) he’s worth his price point. hopefully Gerry can get that pinned down.

Yea just want to be clear my posts are just full on internet rumors.

My opinion is that it’s a market and this guy has some baggage and is no longer the shiny new sports car he was his freshman year.

Throw him a reasonable offer in line with his injuries and a down year last year. If he takes I it cool, if not no reason to lose any sleep.

This is where I’m at as well.

This is how you can add two nice bigs if injury concerns are cleared as well. Freeman as a more offensively minded big then another defense first big and the Aussie to make it 3 bigs.

Then you find your way to match or outbid for Folefac. That gets you to 11 where you can then still aim to recruit over at PG if needed.

I’m a big time metrics and intangibles guy.

I’ve been so upset about the last 5 years.

I don’t care who you are or where you’re from.

If you are 20 years old and average
16.7ppg and 6.7rpg taking 11 shots per game.

6’10” 240

Get the to the dome and let’s get this group of kids who nobody believes in to shock the world

So, is there interest here, or is this all just spit ballin'?

It’s all market value if someone is willing to pay thats your value.

He was healthy for most of the season, it was not his main issue was my point. Creighton had a very connected team and why they played in the Crown. Josh Dix’s mom passed away so that was mentally tough on team and McAndrews missed the year. They missed on three priority transfers this year and were not competitive but played hard and never quit. Yep, transfers do bomb sometimes SU has missed on some.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about Donnie coming back. Wrong Freeman.

Owen Freeman. Big man from Creighton who started at Iowa

No, I figured it out. When you're clicking on the little Bell, you find yourself jumping around from thread to thread, and when I read about an offensive minded big named Freeman, my first thought was, "No, Donnie can't be coming back." I started to type that, and then realized we're talking about the Creighton kid who is visiting right now. I was hoping to find a list of who was here last weekend.
