Class of 2023 C Owen Freeman (IL) Portal from Creighton

I’ve got a buddy who works at Iowa and let’s just say if the stories I’m hearing are correct no one here would want this guy on the team. Maybe the stories are incorrect and maybe the new staff knows better.

Benny Williams 2.0?

Against Nebraska the Creighton perimeter players shot them out of any chance at winning. It was 15-2 to start. Freeman got position a few times, but never got the ball. Lots of chucking from the outside.

He again was laboring his leg. I imagine he rushed back because of the amount of money he was getting, but in this one he never was given a chance to make an impact in this game. Overall he looks like he may have been a bad fit for what McDermott tries to do on offense.
This has been my comment from day 1. Of at least similar.

Do people really not understand in the portal era how quickly things go down the toilet when the NonCon goes to crap. A 5-5 start with a Q3 loss at Creighton and no good wins means your season is effectively over save some sort of nc state miracle run.

This thread is strange. My take. This isn't pro sports with multi year and hundred million dollar contracts. It's a one year deal. We have a coaching staff assessing, likely a dr reviewing "medicals". If it works great. If it doesn't oh well and move on. That's if Cuse pulls the trigger.
Sometimes people get into paralysis by analysis. Remember at the end of the day we are all just water.

I trust the staff to evaluate this. Also they brought in Riley Mulvey from Iowa as well to Siena last year. So it’s not their first rodeo taking guys that were at Iowa.

I work at Iowa and remember all the stories when he left. I felt several of them were born out of an angry/butt hurt fan base. When he was here, Iowa fans absolutely loved him and talked about how great he was. Like many other programs Iowa fans are somewhat delusional and can be salty.

Sounds like some of us with Donnie Freeman.

Why does a Syracuse fan board have connections to Iowa City, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska. I love it!

I for one am looking forward to observing the resolution of cognitive dissonance that will be necessary when the vision for what a "Gerry player" is butts up against the reality that not every player has perfect moral character or at the very least the best optics.

Add Evansville Indiana lol. My great grandfather and grandfather were born and raised in Syracuse until he had to move here for work. Dad was born there as well and moved back and forth to live with grandma and graduated from De Ruyter High School. Now we live here! I was born and raised Orange.

Why don’t Iowa fans and the Iowa insiders that are crapping on him here just come out and say he shut down his 2nd year at Iowa and got season ending surgery on his finger that he could easily have played through. Or on top of that likely lied to other staffs about hurting his knee in a pick up basketball game.

I don’t get this jealous ex girlfriend commentary that some of the posters here are circulating from the people they know at Iowa and Creighton.

We’ve seen way worse on the hill.

Yeah, I kind of agree but it's probably more nuanced than that. Not sure why a couple guys here repeatedly say we shouldn't want him but not offer any insight why. If they're looking to avoid crapping on the guy, then maybe stop posting 50 times in a thread that there are issues but offer nothing.

When I did some exploring, there was something on a Creighton board that I found about him and another player (i don't remember who) who had potential issues - so maybe that led to some locker room drama? I have zero idea if that's true but the only thing I could find. There was also some potential bad blood amongst teammates because he came in and got a huge bag (much more than other guys) yet didn't play and contribute like most expected. Again, not sure if that's reality but the other thing I saw.

Gerry certainly knows what happened and either pulled back some on the offer or feels like it's worth the gamble. Either way I'm fine. I just want a damn center who can hold his own in the ACC because so far, it ain't looking that promising.

I’m not really following why this was in response to my message. I was saying that Iowa fans seemed to be bashing freeman simply out of anger for leaving (ie jealous ex girlfriend).
