Class of 2023 C Owen Freeman (IL) Portal from Creighton

The guy has a career 26.0 PER, a career Box Plus Minus of 7.2 and a net rating of plus 18 per 100 possessions for his career. We would be nuts not to take him. And his tape was good even injured! I don’t care if he’s not an elite athlete. He’s effective. His entire career is Jesse Edward’s last season for us.

If Owen is a pass, What about Cooper Schweigert, current portal from Wake Forest. He had a down junior year but was excellent his first two years. Same size as Owen but would come at a much lower cost.
Much lower costs and a quarter of the production.

So if the CU team was awful, which I totally agree with, and the tallest starter they had down low was 6’7” and OF was unplayable does that tell you anything? Nobody was butt hurt, it did not workout for him or CU, they asked him to move on as he would not see the court for them anytime in the near future. Maybe he was the10th man on a really bad team and will be starter and a good player on a different team?
Isn't that exactly what happened, but in reverse?

Syracuse offered him a boatload of money. He isn't some sub. They are offering the guy that played at Iowa a couple of years ago.

So any ideas on where things stand. Seems Auburn has done their thing now and gone a different direction…

Some notable performances against power conference teams.

Combined for 34, 25, and 7 against a top 25 Wisconsin team as a freshman in 2 games.

11, 8, 3 against a 29 win Iowa State team as a freshman.

17, 14, and 4 blocks against Maryland when Willard was still the coach.

22 and 10 against a 23 win Nebraska team as a freshman.

16, 5 and 3 against a 25 win Iowa State team as a sophomore.

16, 12, and 4 against Indiana as a sophomore.

23, 6, and 2 against USC as a sophomore.

Thanks for the link. He doesn't look that much different than the kid from Siena. I'm not spending a ton of money for this kid. I think we need somebody better than this, but there may not be reciprocal interest from better prospects. This is a "we can get you back / better" player development target & pitch. I kind of like the other 2 centers better, although they aren't as experienced.

Go watch his Iowa tape. That’s who they’re paying for.

Maybe he was the10th man on a really bad team and will be starter and a good player on a different team? Perhaps GMAC wants him to play 5 minutes per half and be the 10th man at Syracuse as well, and be the 3rd center (emergency)? I’m perfectly OK with that plan by the way.
So he’s not the kind of player that can carry a team, and at $1.8M he should have been. That makes more sense. Reality is, he probably isn’t a guy to carry a team, and being injured virtually assured that he wouldn’t be. GMac won’t need him to carry the team. If he can rebound, defend, pass, and score 10 a game, that’s probably enough.

You had me at nose for rebounds. My wish.

Yeah, but doesn't look athletic, coming an off an injury, plays below the rim. Some of his moves and footwork around the rim can look awkward.
I guess he's big, he's got decent fundamentals, but I'm not seeing much here that I'm excited about.

Per Auburn forum he’s been on campus today and they are all talking about trying to get him and Dowd at the 4. Doesn’t sound like anything but a chance to start not necessarily a guarantee is available at the 4. The SL board acted surprised with the Trilly comment about Freeman connected there.

Really don’t think he’s going to Auburn but I could be totally wrong. I’ve been told twice now that he wants to play the five. Guess no one really knows.

I swear, some of you dudes are ridiculous. There is no perfect center for us. So if you say pass, then what do you suggest? Look at our options! Exhausting. I can't tell you how glad I am moving on from Red but there are some damn lunies that came (or were resurrected) with Gerry taking over.

I really like how fans/posters make recommendations or demands for transfers as if the demands are realistic or if the coaching are not trying their hardest to bring transfers/players with the requisite skills and size to fill the perceived vacancies/needs.

The coaching staff is working hard to bring the players needed. They are looking at several alternatives in case their first choices decide to go elsewhere. They are juggling players and money to hopefully fulfill the needed positions.

Have to remember that both salesmanship skills and a recruit’s desire to play in Syracuse for the right amount of money all have to blend together to successfully fill the vacancies.

I don’t believe that players like Mingo, Wilkins, Fielder are in the running to come to Syracuse. They are the nice to haves that aren’t looking at Syracuse as their next destination.

There have been 2-3 solid centers that entered the portal tonight. There is still plenty of time. If we offered him a boatload and he commits elsewhere, find another. Recruit and lure someone into the portal.

Fielder, Bonke, Reeves all out there and as mentioned before, more entering.

Bonke is looking at major money from blue bloods. Fielder has a perfect fit at Alabama.
