Class of 2020 C Quincy Ballard (NY) Portal from Wichita St

Interesting to see some poster’s thoughts again on Frank Anselm and how giving Jesse Edwards more time chased Frank from SU which we would regret. He was on Louisville’s team this past year, his 5th, after a 2 year stop at Georgia.
I was high on Anselm, thinking that he'd develop like Edwards. Boy was I wrong.

Now back to Ballard :)

This would be a really good get. If we want him. Which I think we do. We would be the favorites.

This would also be huge if we go full time 2/3 defense again. Imagine freeman and Sadiq on the wings with Ballard in the middle. With 6-4 Starling and possibly 6-6 Desmond Claude up top. Those are the Cuse teams we are use to and need to get back too
That’s not enough outside shooting though I like how much more physical the lineup would be.

Is Tony Bennet available as a special assistant, because that lineup better be real dedicated to defense. Actually I would love to see that group play a switching man to man. Quincy is a different animal on P&R defense than Naheem and Eddie have been the last two years.

I see folks posting that we should "pass" on this player. Let me repeat myself once again. WE HAVE NO CENTERS ON THE 25-26 ROSTER! No new recruits, no one returning, nada. We don't need one center, we need 2. I'm not seeing a lot of options right now and if we don't get a couple of big bodies for next year, our streak of below expectation seasons will continue.

I can’t believe I just read that we want to zone full time!

That’s very difficult especially for first year players to execute the rotations properly- that’s why JB liked to develop players over time. Our transfers did better than freshman back in the days when they had a year practicing before playing it in games. Most freshman played limited minutes, until they grasped his zone concepts well. Maybe a different zone? Matchup or something else? It is surprising with all the emphasis on long range shooting even for centers, power forwards. Is there any push to move the college 3 point line again maybe closer or to the NBA’s 3 point line? Just wondering, if anyone knows why?

Teaching zone with portal and NIL players will be a disaster for the reasons you cite. We were WAY worse in zone this year….

I think he's pretty good. He's better than Naheem. Here are some notable games against legit competition.

19/15/2 blocks against OK St in the NIT.
19/7/4 blocks against Memphis
10/10 against Memphis
12/13/2 blocks against Temple
10/10/3 blocks against Kansas State
7/7/3 blocks against Minnesota
10/5 in just 19 minutes against Kansas last year.

15 games with double digit rebounds this year. 23 games with 3 blocks or more over the past two seasons. I am not sure what we else we want in a center. He's played well against good teams.
I appreciate all of you folks that actually do the homework to look up stats that validate the stuff OttoinGrotto kind of makes up and just assume he’s wrong about.

The one thing you can count on is that I will never lead anyone astray.

Unless I do. Which does happen sometimes.

A lot of the time.

But I will never lead anyone astray. And that's a promise.

I won't keep.

But it is a promise.

But even if you do lead someone astray, it doesn't take away the friends that person made along the way and at the end of the day, isn't that what is most important?

It is!

Because we're all going to die someday anyway.
