That guy played 7 mins per game at Binghamton. What makes you think he could play in the ACC?I like that guy in the portal, Yarden Willis, he's a 7 footer that Washington State is recruiting. I think Skogman is 6'10". Skogman is in the portal.
Maybe he’d rather be home, could not just about PTHe's got 2 things you can't coach - he's tall and massive. What I don't get is if he stayed at FSU would he get less than the 8 minutes per game that will be available here?
FIFYThe guy that comes this year has to be willing to accept 10-15 minutes this year and might be the starter next year.
He averaged 24 mpg at UB last season.I agree - David Skogman from UB may be willing to do that
And if that’s the case, let’s not underestimate what that does for team chemistry. Torrence accepted his role and will continue to do so. I would rather have the guy with less talent who accepts his role than the guy with more talent who isn’t happy and cause problems in the locker room.Maybe he’d rather be home, could not just about PT
Yes, he is.I like that guy in the portal, Yarden Willis, he's a 7 footer that Washington State is recruiting. I think Skogman is 6'10". Skogman is in the portal.
FSU recruiting has been exceptional. He is trapped on the depth chart by some highly recruited players. He's got 2 things you can't coach - he's tall and massive. What I don't get is if he stayed at FSU would he get less than the 8 minutes per game that will be available here?

Quincy can jump.FSU recruiting has been exceptional. He is trapped on the depth chart by some highly recruited players.
A guy who can dunk it taking off from the free throw line is no stiff.Quincy can jump.
Back to the Craig Forth days
Quincy can jump.
All I know is it was posted, presumably by his mom, in March of his senior year of HS.Was that before the growth spurt?

He is not some slow, uncoordinated stiff. There is a reason he was offered by so many P5 schools, including us, out of HS.
From what I can piece together, he is a fine shot blocker. Probably not as developed on the offensive end.
I would love to get a former HS AA to replace Frank. But the kids aren’t stupid. The first thing they do when considering a school is look at the playing time situation. If one of the best centers returning on the country is on the team, that is going to eliminate a lot of players. Especially if the current starter has 2 years of eligibility remaining.
I think Jesse is gone after next season but kids transferring in will be reluctant to bank on a feeling the staff has.
We're playing M2MI know this is going to sound like a joke, but, can he cover the corner 3? He sounds a bit slow and stiff. And as much as I hate to say it, its kind of important as long as JB is here. If it were me I'd wait till I heard what Cole is doing first. If Cole leaves id go after a 4 who can also spot time at the 5. That would be a lot of minutes to sell a quality player. I dont see the rush to grab Ballard, players like him will be available. If the staff likes him that much then so be it, but thats what I would do
Agree about the point of it talking at least a year for a big guy to get comfortable, especially in the zone.Just to be clear I wasn't criticizing the post just asking as I know he was like 6-7 or something and then had a big growth spurt.
Also I don't think he is a stiff. To me it was about how raw he is and looked while at FSU. Even when he was at the Dome he looked uncomfortable and out of position a lot. Clearly he has athleticism. Frank did too and Frank also improved a bunch in knowing where to be in the zone and in making himself a better screener and more available to teammates.
QB looks like a guy who needs at least another year to learn and become more comfortable on the court. Happy to be wrong- maybe it's just how he was handled at FSU. No doubt you can't teach that kind of size.
That would be music to my ears. I think it would dramatically help our recruiting of 4 and 5 star players who don't want to sit in a zone. It would also allow SU to recruit more physical type players, especially in the center position where we've always gone after bean poles and sacrificed offensive skills for defensive abilities to cover the corner 3s.. These physical kinds of centers would not fit well with the zone philosophy that SU employs. Also go after the lightening quick guards who can penetrate and get to the basket, like Mintz. We're playing M2M

Though I will say if he is a legit shot blocker, that helps overcome inexperience and bad positioning some. They say he is 7 foot tall and I believe I read he has a 7 foot 7 inch wing span. If he is reasonably athletic, that is a really nice combo for someone who is 240 pounds. We haven’t had someone that tall and that heavy since Fab Melo.
Even good defenders like Jesse struggled early. Compared to an incoming frosh, Quincy would have the advantage of playing against similar sized players in practice every day for 2 seasons. FSU stocks up 7 footers like I stock ribeyes in the freezer.
Guessing the staff is trying sell him with a pitch like, you will likely be in the rotation and play every game from day one. Expect 10-15 minutes a game your first season, as you adjust to our defense and offense.
Then you have a shot to start for 2 seasons.
I don't think anyone is hoping to get a HS AA. But I think having someone who has played more than a few minutes at the D1 level and had at least a modicum of success isn't too much to ask.All I know is it was posted, presumably by his mom, in March of his senior year of HS.

Here is an example for you.
St. Bonaventure had the reigning A-10 Defensive Player of the Year at center. A guy who Syracuse recruited - Osun Osunniyi. He averaged 34.3 minutes per game in 2020-21.
Instead of settling for someone who was the equivalent of Ballard, with a team ready to win now (Top 25 preseason by many and ranked in Top 25 through November), they went out, did their due diligence, and received a commitment from a transfer from Pitt - Abdoul Karim Coulibaly.
Coulibaly averaged 5.2 points and 3.9 rebounds in 20 starts as a sophomore. Granted - he played on a below average ACC team. However, he showed he could be decently productive against high level competition.
This year, Coulibaly averaged 9.5 minutes per game - at a lower-level school - as opposed to 22.5 the year before at Pitt. I am certain he will start next season if Osunniyi does not return next year. But Osunniyi could come back. That is a possibility. So there was no guarantee.
But those are the types of additions that are acceptable to a program wanting to win. Wanting to do the things necessary to compete at the highest levels. Creating the best possible roster to win.
Quincy Ballard represents an easy choice. Dare I say, a lazy choice. Represents someone who has very little by way of experience and someone who is more likely to miss than hit.
My example was used to show a situation where a school successfully recruited a player with much more in-game experience at the same level with an incumbent player scheduled to account for the majority of playing time at a position. Had nothing to do with Coulibaly at all. But I think you knew that.I agree that the staff should canvass the portal and find the best possible player to replace Frank.
Would be really disappointed if we settled for a player like Abdoul Karim Coulibaly. He is 6’9 at best, plays below the rim, is not a shot blocker, and is really poorly suited for our team and our defense.
Quincy is a better fit IMHO. There might be others would are even better fits. Hope we get one soon.
That would be nice, but it’s hard to offer someone if no spots are open.I agree that the staff should canvass the portal and find the best possible player to replace Frank.

When the staff recruited QB in high school and lost him to one of the top recruiting teams in the country, were they being lazy then?My example was used to show a situation where a school successfully recruited a player with much more in-game experience at the same level with an incumbent player scheduled to account for the majority of playing time at a position. I’ll also add that there is literally no evidence to show JB has any interest in working the transfer portal to find said player. Would be happy to be wrong and be surprised here. But unlikely.
