Can we finally all admit Hackett is not the answer.

I t
Pitts not known for there "D". Your right though lets see what happens the next two weeks both RU and UCant have pretty good defenses. Maybe Hackett will come out and call a great game and we can crack the 20's, like most Div 1 A teams.
hink Pitt is a better team then rutgers or UCON. Time well tell I guess

Next two weeks will tell the tale, I would love to see us put up 20 or 30+ on either RU or UConn.

Well, I have no freakin idea about Hackett anymore. Before the season, I wanted his scalp and thought he was just somebody's son doing OJT. Then the hurry up came and I though Crusty, you are a dope, this guy is a budding genius who just did not have the players before. Now, I have not got a clue and will just wait to see what happens. I do know this, if things don't improve, either Doug will have to say goodbye to him or goodbye to Dr. Gross. After four years it is time to win. I am rooting for all of them.

I will see if I can answer these questions one by one.

Against Minnesota on third and long we ran the ball at least 2 if not 3 times for a minimal game. We also did it once yesterday. Its one thing to call a draw every now and then to catch a D off guard but it was blatant against Minnesota, its was mentioned here by multiple posters as well so I am not alone. I dont have any issues with Nassib scrambling if nothing is open or leaving him a run option, sometimes no one is open and him taking off is a good thing.

Smith and Broyld have nothing to do with one another. Broyld is not a RB, he shouldnt be playing RB and we look ed giving our best athletic player inside handoffs and having him play RB when he has never played that position in his career. Broyld should be playing in the slot as his regular position and utilized the way Florida used Percy Harvin, constantly in motion and lining up all over the place ie slot, behind the TE, in the backfield, out wide, as the QB etc. Theres zero reason he and Smith cant both be on the field at the same time. Broyld is not a RB.

They didn't do it once yesterday. The running backs carried it 3 times on3rd down and converted all three times. Nassib scrambled twice, got four yards on 3/13, and got a first down on 3rd and six. That's it for third down runs. They ran on 3rd and six and 3rd and 10 against Minnesota. That is hardly continual. It's just another myth.

As for Broyld, what do you think he did in HS, dropped back and threw 50 times a game? He's starting with the ball in the same position on the field that he did taking snaps in HS. Half of what he did in HS was essentially be a RB. Percy Harvin, you have got to be kidding. Harvin is 5-11, 190 and runs a sub 4.4 40. That in NO way resembles Broyld.

Point noted on the running issue, perhaps I was remembering a Nassib scramble, still it was an issue versus Minny but perhaps that was a one time thing.

Still disagree on Broyld, its a huge difference running the ball as a mobile QB against Western NY highschool competition then taking inside handoffs at the highest level of college football. Broyld isnt a Rb, hes not built like a RB and his future at the next level certainly isnt at RB. You dont have to be Percy Harvin to be used like him. You know better then anyone that you dont have to have a sub 4.4 fourty to be used in a variety of ways when you have the kind of high end athleticism and pure talent that Broyld has. Broyld needs the ball out in space and in a variety of ways, he needs to be playing a WR hybrid.

You really posted this after a win? You LOVE to complain. That much is certain. You are in the minority.

it's 6:55 am and I need a beer,thank God it's Sunday morning...a bloody could do also

Still don't understand the love affair with Broyld, he's either a qb, a te, or a linebacker. Percy Harvin? Hack is fine, IMO. The limitations and inconsistencies are at the qb spot. Get an athletic qb who can pass and run and things will open up

I like Hackett overall but I'm still not too keen on his flow of the game calls.

That said, SU has average wr's, average rb's and a qb that can do some things well, some good and some very poorly. How can an OC figure out how to make this work? Have a hell of an offensive line and I think it will get better. Then, you can put your average offensive players in situations to succeed. Rutgers and UConn will blitz the crud out of SU because of the average talent and how will Hackett respond to that is what is going to determine his job in my eyes.

IthacaB I couldn't care less about having a mobile qb because right now 2012 is what I'm worried about. I agree having a qb that can hurt a d with his feet and arm would be nice but Hackett has to figure out how to score on press and blitz coverage now, with the players he has at his disposal.

Here we go with the press coverage!! Three weeks ago we had the best bunch of receivers in 15 years. This board kills me. Between Lemon, Sales, and West, we have above average wide receivers. The biggest issue I have is take right now we need to run the ball more.

It's press coverage!!!

They may have the best receivers in a while but that really isn't saying much and yes, they will have to run the ball against these two teams but if your receivers can not separate you can put more in the box/blitz as you already know.

It's too bad Morris isn't ready. The thing holding the whole team back lack of a dynamic back. Smith has excellent burst straight ahead and Gulley is a nice scat back, but neither is a top end running back.

Until an opponent is made to pay for sitting back and playing coverage things are going to slow down.

The problem is Athletic QB's who can run and pass dont grow on trees. You know better then anyone those guys are at a premium and the chances of SU landing a top flight one are pretty slim.

Come on I was as happy as anyone to get an actual win (my fine lot companions can confirm) but its clear this offense is in trouble. This team the past two seasons plus this years Pitt game simply cant score consistently in conference. Outside of WVU last year were not even averaging in the upper teens. Were not going to beat many BE teams scoring 7 offensive points. Teams can have a bad game but in our last 8 quarters we have 1 legitimate non garbage time touchdown. Sorry I m not patting myself on the back or throwing a parade like a Rutgers fan would do.

Smith has looked better then Gulley the past few games. Why not give him starters carries and see what happens. Your right hes not breaking a 70 yarder to the house but hes been averaging 6-7 yards a carry and been running people over the past few games.

They are out there... What was Broyld recruited as?

Smith has been fine at rb, he needs more carries. Again don't see the love affair with broyld...He needs to find a position. With 20 pounds he's an NFL type te

I agree there out there but there at FSU, Ohio State, etc. We have some dame good QB recruits coming in but there not the type of player your looking for and outside of Broyld we really dont have anyone that meets that criteria on the roster or on the recruiting horizon. Broylds issue is I dont think the staff sees him as a QB, and there not really sure what to do with him.

An athlete.

Bingo, same thing I just noted. I think those waiting for him to get his shot at QB are going to be dissapointed.
