Can't Help But Think There Wasn't a Side Conversation With

If they were so sure about him, why wouldn't they just give him the job now?

I love White but why would we want him as HC? He hasn't even proven himself here as DC.

Since joining the ACC SU's D vs ACC teams:

2021 30.6 ppg
2020 32.2 ppg
2019 33.6 ppg
2018 28.0 ppg
2017 37.1 ppg
2016 42.1 ppg
2015 33.3 ppg
2014 24.8 ppg
2013 28.1 ppg

So this year is 4th out of our 9 ACC seasons. Is that Head Coach in Waiting production?

Second in yards per play.

The best option is a defensive hc who runs the right offense and wants to keep the ball in offense. I worry this people don't actually exist which is why I prefer offense but maybe he's the one that has seen the light

I rather have an O HC who has a general system and can take over if his OC stinks. Then find your next OC with a similar system. A D HC won't be able to fix the O. I think it is easier to fix the D than it is the O. Which is why at the time I preferred Hackett over Shafer.

I think Marrone fit this. He had an OC in year 1 who stunk and was able to jump in. He let his OC go in a different direction in 2012 and helped tweak things to fix issues.

Dino would fit this if he were a good O mind. I think he copied a system and went with it. His track record running an O prior was pretty poor. He hasn't been able to help fix things the last 3 years.

Also D HC's seem to all be ultra conservative. TCU at their peak was probably the closest thing to what you describe.

if we had generated any TOs the numbers would have really looked good. we had several key ones called back. One against NC st which was a horrible reffing job and a big INT vs FSU negated by a dumb penalty

I mean, to be fair to Tony White

His numbers of ppg from his first year to his second year went down.

He seems to be okay at recruiting.

I think if the defense in 2022 has a stellar year and we fire Dino Babers…. He will be the guy.

As JW said, he will eventually have the chops to be a HC but not yet
