CBA-Albany vs CBA-Syracuse for AA State championship Saturday at the Dome

I will be surprised if they handle CBA Cuse. three best teams in the state clearly the CBA's and Aquinas. Tough for the public schools.
Fifty years ago when I was in HS, people were accusing CBA-Albany of recruiting. The public schools have had their moments but everything comes back full circle.

Cba Albany throttled Corning. Corning was able to hang with Syracuse cba. Granted, Corning runs unique offense that can be tough if you haven’t seen it.

I remember when CBA Syracuse used to play Dolgeville in the sectionals. I think the privates are going to have a run for a while. In fact I fear for the future of football at public schools in NY, especially at the lower levels.

They should be broken off from the public schools so they can have their own little prep season. It sucks that kids that ball out for their hometowns get matched up against these all-star teams.

Interestingly, that is what they do in Buffalo with the Monsignor Martin League:

Canisius High School won the league and then lost to Iona Prep in the NYS Catholic High School Athletic Association championship game last weekend:

Dolgeville? Back in the early 80's Dolgeville was D, or is my memory incorrect?

So was CBA, they were a non-factor to the big schools in those days. The best players played for their hometowns.

Oh, wow, didn't know that. I just remember playing Dolgeville in 8th grade basketball when I attended Poland. We beat them 70-8 in one game. I remember because I scored 7 points, my middle-school career high. lol

CBA didn’t start recruiting till 94/95
Sounds about right. I just remember not caring about the little catholic schools. Back in those days it was RFA, L'pool, B'ville, Henninger with a little CNS, WG, Nottingham mixed in, at least in Class AA which was the largest at the time.

Cassamento at CBA who was the former Henninger coach that put CBA on the map. He got plenty of the kids in the Syracuse City schools to attend. Guys like Bruce Williams, Lavar Lobdell. Paulus would have gone to CBA regardless just like his brothers before him. That is what started it and the rest is history, the coaches drive it, much like Bruce does now.

Whine about it all you like. There are also a ton of really good athletes that have gone to CBA in the last 20 years because they want to play there and their parents want them to attend school there as well, make no mistake about that. They weren't "recruited" there. Good sports and academics is attractive for parents and student and lets face it the four high schools in the City aren't what they use to be.

Some of you guys would hate it here in Texas. My school district has 8 public high schools. They all recruit. Families will move from house to house or apt to apt so they are in the school zone for that particular school. It's why one school continues to be nationally ranked and others are lucky to get a couple wins a year. And it doesn't matter if it's the rich or poor side of the tracks.

RFA used to be a powerhouse.

Supplemented by Miltary kids and a base of hard nosed Romans.

Bill Heller wrote a series of articles on this about 1981 or 82 in the Albany Times Union. Nothing much came of it.

Get the private schools out of here. The amount of sectional games I played against Syracuse private schools while I was at lil ole HP was laughable. Go play in your own playoffs.

Not all kids were recruited to go there, this is true but some from the city were that otherwise did not have the financial ability to pay for that school they were really freaking good. No whining just the facts.

Just what colleges are saying and trying to do too.
