Syracuse is still waiting on its top shooter, James Southerland. Sources told CBSSports.com that it's an academic issue that has surfaced from last season -- and the school is optimistic it will be resolved. Sources said that when the NCAA went in and investigated the Fab Melo situation last season, an issue with Southerland surfaced.

This doesn't sound like what Waters reported.

So an issue with Southerland came about A YEAR AGO and the NCAA just gets around to suspending him? If the NCAA were a publicly traded company, it's stock would be worth about $0.0000001

does this term paper go back to last season?? lol
Maybe the $70 improper benefit was from last year and the plagiarism was this year?

If he didn't adjust the $70 for inflation, they'll be going for the death penalty. They are still investigating and plan to have a ruling sometime in 2017.

There are too many law schools. People naively go to law school expecting to make money. Also not to have to work very hard.

The NCAA is perfect for the evolving America...it employs probably 400 lawyers (they're all lawyers) who probably work 1 week a year and make $240-$400k a year.

They get to exercise their law-school bred superiority by controlling (often needlessly) the lives of people between the ages of 17-22 with zero repercussion

AND they answer primarily to leftist-leaning University administrations who have largely the same goals (Gorden Gee = $1.4m??).

The best is drug rule...you don't have to have one...but if you do, you must enforce it...uuummmmmmmmm

I believe Jake indicated previously that it was not from this semester don't remember his exact post

Last year's issue was just recently discovered.

Last year's issue was just recently discovered.

Is it only a last year issue? Can you confirm either the Waters or CBS stories?

Stan Kissel sure had a great season last year. Wow. No wonder he decided he wanted to "spend more time with his family." (n)

You've probably hit the most important point.
He appears to be the connecting thread.
I'll avoid further inference or speculation except to say that, as we know, NO ONE leaves a job to "spend more time with his family."
(In fact, I know guys who work extra hours just to avoid the family).

Misplaced blame.

Meanwhile at UK, boosters and Cal continue to give out fringe benefits and $$$ to keep recruits coming in, but NCAA feels there is nothing wrong with that.
