CFP Rankings for Dec 3

Oh man I disagree I think we would be ranked around 9-10. Probably ahead of Indiana.

IMO we are 10 in that scenario

Eh, getting our doors blown off at Pitt would’ve dropped us out of rankings and beating BC wouldn’t have helped us recover much. I’m guessing we’d be somewhere in the mid teens, just outside a playoff spot. I guess it’s good thing we lost those games, so we don’t have to endure the pain of being last team out, wondering why 3 loss Bama made it in over us.

Why, Pitt was ranked and we were on the road? Bama got blown out by unranked Oklahoma and they're at #11.

If the committee has Indiana in right now they would have us in if we were 11-1. Our wins against Miami and UNLV are better than anyone they have beaten.

I don’t understand why they won’t re-seed the field after the first round. Makes no freaking sense.

Looking at the current possible bracket, why would you lock the #5/#12 game into playing #4 and lock the #1 into playing #8/#9 when that could mean the #1 team plays the actual 7th ranked team while the #4 team (the 10th ranked team) plays the actual 15th ranked team.

It’s ludicrous. I like that conference champs get byes. But then you GOTTA re-seed the field for the quarterfinals based on the actual rankings. If what I just laid out happens it sucks that Oregon would have to play Tennessee instead of, say, Arizona State because the brackets were locked.
I don't like the byes for conf champs. Seed em one through 12 as best as possible. Screws the whole thing up when you have teams seeded way above or below where they should be.

I agree. Conf champs should be AQ but not given a bye.

They want to minimize the possibility of a SEC or B1G having to go on the road in round one. It’s all optics.

The goal is always to win. I never understood the “close” wins argument. They’re still wins. Good teams find ways to win, especially in close games.

* not saying you are arguing against that btw
I hear ya but they beat nobody and were playing with their food during many of their victories. Wins are important for sure but quality wins are even more important. In hindsight their best win on paper was against Florida but the Gators were putrid in September. They got much better as the season wore on. UF's best wins were when DJ Lagway took over at QB.

I'm keeping my powder dry to HAMMER whomever is playing Indiana in round 1

If Clemson beats SMU then who gets that last spot? SMU or Alabama?

So when Penn State loses how far do they drop? IMO they should be behind Notre Dame right now. Why have them ahead of Ohio State?

Will they setup 8. Ohio State vs 1. Oregon/Penn State winner in the QFs?

Also will the committee try to avoid rematches? You do not want 7. UGA vs 2. Texas III in the QFs.

If SMU and Texas lose does the committee not take Bama if the last team in faces Texas to avoid an SEC game? Do they keep SMU ahead?

I think we see...

8. Ohio State vs 9. Tennessee
7. Penn State vs 10. SMU
6. Notre Dame vs 11. Indiana
5. Texas vs 12. UNLV

1. Oregon vs 8. Ohio State
2. UGA vs 10. SMU
3. Clemson vs 11. Indiana
4. Iowa State vs 5. Texas

8. Ohio State vs 2. UGA
3. Clemson vs 5. Texas

2. UGA vs 5. Texas

2. UGA

It has to be Bama. They have wins against three teams in the CFP Top 20 right now. SMU has zero.

My comment was more general about the idea of close wins being treated as if they were losses, unless they’re a B10 or SEC team.

I think they go to 14 teams soon where Top 2 conference champs (ie B1G/SEC) get the 1 and 2 seed. Next 4 conference champs and top 2 at larges get seeds 3-8 and host 6 at larges seeded 9-14.

So if chalk in the CCGs we would see..

1. Oregon
2. Texas
3. Penn State vs 14. Miami
4. Notre Dame vs 13. Bama
5. SMU vs 12. Indiana
6. Boise State vs 11. Tennessee
7. Arizona State vs 10. Ohio State
8. Army vs 9. UGA
