Understood. For me the totality of Miami's record is unimpressive. My comment was more general about the idea of close wins being treated as if they were losses, unless they’re a B10 or SEC team.

Still hate the idea of lesser teams hosting playoff games or getting byes. In your scenario 6, 7 and 8 would be decisive dogs against their opponents yet would be allowed to host playoff games.I think they go to 14 teams soon where Top 2 conference champs (ie B1G/SEC) get the 1 and 2 seed. Next 4 conference champs and top 2 at larges get seeds 3-8 and host 6 at larges seeded 9-14.
So if chalk in the CCGs we would see..
1. Oregon
2. Texas
3. Penn State vs 14. Miami
4. Notre Dame vs 13. Bama
5. SMU vs 12. Indiana
6. Boise State vs 11. Tennessee
7. Arizona State vs 10. Ohio State
8. Army vs 9. UGA

So let me get this straight, if Clemson beats SMU the ACC gets 2 teams in and Bama gets bumped.
Hmm…sounds like a job for the Carolina mafia!

Rewarding mediocre teams from mediocre conferences in not the answer. PSU or ND would be clear betting favorites against either of those two teams. Why on earth would you have Army hosting a playoff game? ND ran roughshod over them at Yankee Stadium. An at large should need to earn the right. It is completely subjective that they get in. Why do they deserve the home game?
Penn State and Notre Dame are ranked 3 and 4 because of the name on their jersey not their body of work. Why do they deserve a higher seed than ASU or Boise who not only have better resumes but won their conference?
Say no more. They know now what they must do.So let me get this straight, if Clemson beats SMU the ACC gets 2 teams in and Bama gets bumped.

Probably not. It’s been a great year, but the team has holes. Competitive, sure.I firmly believe we would be dangerous if we were in the playoff right now.

How are we any different than Alabama ?? They have 2 bad loses and they’re now 11 th! It’s absolutely ridiculousCan't wait. Really hoping we break the top 20.. I think we should be high teens with our three ranked wins.
Not according to Warde Manuel
Well if SMU gets beaten bad do they deserve it? Close game sure.
a forfeit would be an interesting twist. The committee guy said teams not playing will not move. so they would be locked in by not playing. They should just forfeit the game then. Why would they be penalized for going undefeated in conference and not make it due to a loss in a championship game. Bama just lost by 3 TDs to a 6-6 team 2 weeks ago. And Bama has 3 losses.

I wish more P4 teams would play G5 opponents but conference realignment makes that even more challenging. They really need to standardize the selections.
All P4 teams should be required to play 10 P4 games and no FCS games. So either 8+2 or 9+1. This will make it easier to rank the conferences and it prevents teams from crap OOC schedules. Bigger schools can still buy two G5 home games a year, but with no FCS they can't completely take a week off. The TV networks will like this too.
With the 68 P4 schools all playing 136 OOC G5 games, on average each G5 school will play two P4 teams each year. I am sure some will play 3 and some 1, but for the most part the 68 G5 schools will get two. This prevents G5 schools from going 11-1 without earning it.
So the simple 10 P4 and no FCS requirement standardizes records and weeds out pretenders.
If Notre Dame had two more P4 instead of two of Northern Illinois, Miami OH, Army are they 12-0? 11-1? 10-2?
If Indiana instead of Western Illinois has another P4 are they still 11-1?
What, in a close game screw that. Somehow a 5 loss Alabama would make it, it seems. Rigged I say!Not according to Warde Manuel

I watch a lot of Alabama games. They're like last year's team. Can beat anyone in the country this year, or be a first round bust. What, in a close game screw that. Somehow a 5 loss Alabama would make it, it seems. Rigged I say!
