Chance Westry Transferring to Syracuse

Poor kid. He’s a good kid that’s worked hard to get back. Maybe misremembering but didn’t his mom or someone close to him die that shook him pretty good?
I think his Mom died a couple years ago

Seriously, depression should never be taken lightly, especially for a young college student away from home.
One of my friends tried to slit her wrists due to severe depression she hid from everyone.
i was the one who found her and got her the help she needed.
Sometimes it is due to emotional stress, sometimes it is a chemical imbalance - but it is serious and should not be joked about.

That’s an extreme assumption without any evidence. Shameful post. By all accounts Chance is a good kid that’s just can’t overcome significant injuries. It’s extremely unfortunate but it happens.
Extreme assumption? Shameful post? An earlier post that claimed that Westry was suffering from depression. I said IF that was the case, then he should receive nothing but everyone’s support.

Stop. He has continuing knee issues and because of limitations in his quickness he has no confidence. Can’t beat his defender - as was obvious in the few minutes he had in a couple of games.
Oh my bad, I didn’t know you were privy to the exact details. The reality is we have no idea what is going on. An earlier post claimed he was suffering from depression. Autry only says it’s a medical issue. The kid has had a rough go no doubt. Wish him nothing but the best.

I’m not gonna say why chance hasn’t played this year but, I will say that it’s a very valid reason too not play and hope he’s good for 25-26.
I hope he’s somewhere else in 25-26 if this is the case. No point in wasting a roster spot/NIL funds on him. It’s been 2 seasons - gambling on a 3rd just doesn’t make any sense.

I could be wrong but I think schools go from 13 too 15 scholarship players next year.

Chance will be ok. He’s getting an education, and seems like a great kid. He will be an asset on or off the court wherever he plays, or if he doesn’t play. Sports are nothing.
Sports aren't "nothing". Sports is why he's at SU to begin with. Sports is important: for the players, the university, and the local community, among many others.

But sports need to take a back seat when there are physical or mental health issues.

Really feel for Chance seems like a good kid. That said in this business minded world of cbb feels like a really bad gamble that was taken and just one of many so far in the short time Red has been here

When Red first got hired, we landed [in rapid succession]:
  • JJ, who was a former McDonald's All American
  • Chance Westry, who was a highly rated recruit who landed at Auburn
  • Donnie Freeman, a future McDonald's All American
At a time when our program wasn't recruiting at the same level as before, it seemed like early evidence to suggest that Red was a stud recruiter.

It's a shame that we have gotten no return [essentially] from Chance in two years, and that he hasn't been able to play in the three years that he's been part of college basketball. His body betrayed him.

In the grand scheme of things(which you take a little bit too literally), sports do not matter. They eventually take a back seat to players, the university, and the community. Health matters, family matters. The food you eat, and the water you drink matters. Take away water, and take away sports. See which one matters more. It’s a distraction.

But they do matter and it's certainly not a "distraction".

Sports is what keeps many young people engaged with their academics. Sports provides them opportunities to play on club, school and collegiate teams. Sports provides an opportunity to travel, experience new cultures, to mature, to learn, to create lifelong friendships, and to develop both teamwork and leadership skills.

I'm not trying to offend, but I find that kind of "sports don't matter" comment to be trite. Yeah, we know breathing is more important that playing basketball. That's not a valuable insight.

But if the goal of playing basketball again is what's keeping Chance motivated to overcome whatever he's dealing with right now, then I think sports is actually damn important.
