Westry looks like he's done good work in the weight room.
"With proper dedication to strength and conditioning..."
I dont disagree at all. But he was dominating players that start and others playing minutes, at some point lets see how that player handles game speed, considering before yesterday correct me if im wrong he has played less than 4 minutes this year. It’s rarely carried over to games for either of them. I played with a guy in HS who was a dead Reggie Miller ringer in practice, but when he got in a game he could not hit anything. Practice speed is not the same as game speed.
He is a tweener, but what game action are you referring to?Yeah we've seen Cuffe in a decent amount of game action, and I can't say he's done much to have me clamoring for him getting more minutes. He's a plus defender, for sure, but he's a tweener at this level, which isn't ideal.
That’s the problem. Practices should be game speed or you’re just going through the motions. Practices should be harder than games, not the reverse. It’s rarely carried over to games for either of them. The very definition of stubbornness is not doing what internet posters believe should be done!He is a tweener, but what game action are you referring to?
Must be last year? I personally saw some flashes of a quality role player misused. If I was a player and I spent a whole year working on my game but wasnt given a chance based on last year? I would conclude that my coach was stubborn and not very good.
Especially after watching the performance of some in games. Last game accörding to the box score at least, he was more productive in 5min than someone else in 19. Also, defensive energy was a very clear huge boost.
To me there is no defense for Cuffe having now 9 minutes through 6 games with the poor play in front of him. He may be a tweener but he plays bigger than he is.
Im thinking his role will be more defined from here, get more minutes and prove to be a valuable piece to the improvement of this team.
Maybe stubborness is something holding Coach back. I for sure wouldnt have rolled out the starting lineup in the 2nd half against Cornell. Im not alone, I heard a simultaneous gasp when it happened.

Even last season there were times when he actually was in the game and was easily our best defender in that game, even if it was for a few minutes. He is a tweener, but what game action are you referring to?

Against Miami. Kyshawn George was scoring at will against Bell driving to the hoop every possession late so Cuffe came in to stay in front. Of course first possession he shot over him and banked a 3 though. Size irrelevant this year though since he’s the same size as the guy he’d take minutes from anyway.Even last season there were times when he actually was in the game and was easily our best defender in that game, even if it was for a few minutes.
Didn't Red bring in Cuffe for a last defensive possession last year? That should be enough right there to show he has value, especially on this trash bag of a roster.

“I don’t know what we’re going to get when he comes back and plays,’’ Autry said. “Nobody does. Nobody knows what we’re gonna get. You know? He doesn’t even know.Westry looks like he's done good work in the weight room.

I'd like to see him sooner rather than later because I think he'll help. It doesn't take much to match what Carlos is giving on offense, and Westry's taller and not as easy to shoot over if he can move at all on defense.“I don’t know what we’re going to get when he comes back and plays,’’ Autry said. “Nobody does. Nobody knows what we’re gonna get. You know? He doesn’t even know.
“But he’s battled hard and I’m proud of the way he’s attacked (getting back). His rehab and his spirits are good.’’
Autry described a difference between being available and being ready. Really ready.”
But what about really, really, really ready ?
Whenever he gets in a game, no matter how “ready” I’m not expecting much of anything until his 3rd or 4th game back.I'd like to see him sooner rather than later because I think he'll help. What sucks is it would be really good for Westry to get his first minutes against Tennessee, so it probably won't happen, but I think we need him if we have the chance to win.
That's fine. Let's get that started.Whenever he gets in a game, no matter how “ready” I’m not expecting much of anything until his 3rd or 4th game back.
He's a college kid not a nursing home resident. He'll be ok.Jump down to the field and run around with a bunch of crazed happy and drunk fans. What could go wrong?
I would point out that it appears that Westry's spleen exploding is a Legitimate Risk. He's a college kid not a nursing home resident. He'll be ok.
Just needs some bubble wrap.Jump down to the field and run around with a bunch of crazed happy and drunk fans. What could go wrong?

I think he hasn't played in over two years and only a handful of minutes outside of high school and probably isn't very good right now.I bet he's fine to play and the coach is just being stupid.
The whole Carlos 27 mpg Cuffe 3 mpg with 3 dnps definitely makes me question the decisions. This is much different than when JB would bully one talented kid every year for whatever reason and put them in the dog house Otis Jeremy McNeil Dion etc.
You know, I hope you are wrong. Yes, It will take time to regain his skills after such a long absence.Absence. I think he hasn't played in over two years and only a handful of minutes outside of high school and probably isn't very good right now.
After seeing the slop we've seen, I would hope it's that because if it isn't it's another important question for the coach. You know, I hope you are wrong. Yes, It will take time to regain his skills after such a long absence.
I would rather anticipate a successful return rather than issuing a negative prognosis.
even if it is a matter of poor current form...just put him in the game for a few minutes...defense is all effort anyway...and he could be very useful there even if he isnt good right nowI think he hasn't played in over two years and only a handful of minutes outside of high school and probably isn't very good right now.
