Changes are coming

then you don't know nearly as much about the program as you think you do.

I think you need to check yourself and realize that you're a student/fan and not a program insider.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you don't know every football player on the team, not every manager, not any of the assistant coaches, and definitely not the head coach. Let alone the athletic trainers, various athletic marketing and communications staff, and the slew of other people that have way more access than you do.

Therefore, what you spew on these forums as gospel in reality is a sample of what I'm guessing is a portion of the team. That's the biggest problem I have with your posts. You act as though you're the end-all, be-all, rather than a fan/student who knows some of the players.

In his two seasons at Troy, the Trojans went 16-9 overall and 12-2 in the Sun Belt Conference while collecting two conference championships. During that span his offense scored 30 or more points 11 times, including games against Florida, Georgia, and Oklahoma State.

Huh? Only works against mid level teams. Do you think that Syracuse could score 30 against Florida, Georgia and Oklahoma state?

Marrone didn't need any help this year in making the program look bad. Regression 101...Maybe you missed the season? Some kids like playing for Marrone and some kids don't. Nothing wrong with that- it is a reality of D1 football. But if you think he is universally beloved by the players or if he hasn't made some mistakes with certain individuals then you don't know nearly as much about the program as you think you do.

So you use letting go of Casullo as stupid and a criticism of Marrone? Did you watch the games last year? I sat right behind SU's bench and watched Casullo rant and rage constantly, grabbing and screaming at players, refs - anyone who was near him. I watched him berate Rob Long from the sideline to the bench and for a straight 5 minutes. I thought it was a horrific display and this was before anyone knew of Rob's cancer issue. He did more to embarrass himself than anything Marrone did to him. Wasn't he the same coach who threatened to bench Rob Long and had another kicker quit the team totally while his ST struggled, yet you think it was Marrone who embarrassed him? I think everyone including Marrone, Casullo and the fans are aware that Marrone made the hire. He was man enough to let everyone know that he was admitting his mistake and took responsibility for letting him go too.

I can understand Casullo being upset about losing his job - who wouldn't be? But to cheer when SU made mistakes is pretty immature and solidifies in my mind Marrone's decision and when he made it. He was cheering against players and fellow coaches he was supposed to care about not just Marrone, the head coach. Why even watch an SU game - to look forward to a bad performance? His emotions continue to be disturbing. Regardless if players like you or not - how one handles oneself is key. Certainly doesn't sound like Casullo has ever taken responsibility for what he could have controlled. Being beloved isn't the goal and shouldn't be of any coach but treating others with respect and controlling one's own behavior and emotions certainly should be a basic - win or lose.

No way with Tony Franklin - he maybe good with mid-conference schools but look what he did at Auburn after the first year:

The Tigers' offense was much less impressive at the start of the 2008 season. Auburn started the season with a somewhat disappointing 4-2 record, losing to LSU and Vanderbilt and having close calls against two struggling teams in Mississippi State and Tennessee. After the first six games, Auburn ranked 104th in total offense out of all FBS teams.[9]
On Wednesday, October 8, 2008, Auburn head coach Tuberville fired Franklin, citing a lack of offensive production from Franklin's spread offense, and noting Auburn's diminishing rank in most of the offensive categories in the FBS.[10] Auburn went on to win only one of the final six games, finishing with a 5–7 record. Some saw this as proof that even though Franklin was able to use his offense in lesser conferences and against lesser defenses, in the SEC where defense reigns, his version of the spread could not work.

Um he had 6 games to implement his system at AU. After he was fired they didn't light the world on fire either. And he was forced on his HC, who didn't want him in the first place. You think that was a fair assessment of his O? What about his time at UK? Is that not the SEC as well? And will he be playing SEC Ds at SU anyway?

I said changes were coming, how happy it makes all the experts here, I know which way I'd bet.

Given all staff changes so far, maybe the experts here should get a shot. Can't be easy to rebuild when you keep shuffling your staff.

Agree that Hackett isn't going anywhere. A 4th OC in 4 years would be a worse pace than the last guy.

Marrone should have known exactly what and who he was getting when he hired Casullo as that has always been his MO. Plenty of coaches at other schools- you know, schools with winning football programs- act the way Casullo did on the sideline. If Marrone found this intolerable, fine- make the change. Just do it in a reasonable, respectful way, especially with jone game left in the season. Better yet, hire those people with whom you can find a way to work. For someone with THE NOTEBOOK, Marrone sure has had a lot of misses with his assistants.

Marrone worked with Casullo at GTech and the Jets previously. He also played during Casullo's first year here. He knew the guy previously. People change over long spans of time- temperaments, egos, abilities, etc. Maybe the pair had a good relationship previously, but it decayed. Maybe Casullo wasn't the guy that Marrone thought he was. Or maybe there were other issues. We don't know.

And how was there disrespect?

Why should a position coach be allowed to finish out the season if the coach thinks he's doing more harm than good to the program?

I would like to see the following

HC Marrone
OC/QB Tony Franklin
RB Wheatley
OL Adkins with Marrone taking more of a hands on approach with this group
WR Moore
DC Shafer
DL Daoust
LB Anselmo
ST/DB Mike Mallory with Shafer helping out with DBs so Mallory isn't stretched too thin

I forgot that there would be one more coach position left. So I would hire the best young recruiter out there to do TEs.

Hasn't Go suggested that Hackett is going to get MORE responsibility?

This place ought to be a hoot when that's announced.

I thought Marrone had a lot to say about what the offense did, so there were basically 2 OC's? If that's correct then Hackett getting complete control over it could be a good thing.

Given the way his career has gone this guy must be building quite a list of teams he roots against. On the plus side it must give him a great deal of joy to have so many teams to cheer against. Chances are at least one will not be playing well at any given time.

Because the best one was on the field and it wasn't close.

Not talking about this past year, I'm talking next year. I would love to see Hunt get a shot.

any word on Adrian Flemming? Always thought the kid had good size and potential to do some things
Fleming will not be named as the new ST Coordinator. I would consider him a long shot to be our new LB coach. Might end up in the rotation at WR though...

You only have 14 posts but almost every one is a pity party for Casullo. So which of his relatives are you?

Then on top of that you question bnoro about what he actually knows when he does in fact know many people in the program. So your either a nobody pretending to be somebody or your somones relative crying over Marrone crapping on your Christmas dinner.

He spends his time now rooting against SU. A friend watched a game earlier this year in his presence. He took delight in every Syracuse miscue.

Haha I don't think i've ever posted anything as gospel or the "end-all, be-all". I'm more connected than just knowing some players. Are you jealous or something? I don't understand all the hate aimed at me for disputing false information about our program that we all want to succeed.

You ever see a Kansas State Basketball Game? That Guy makes Cassullo look like Casper MilqueToast and the Fan s love him! (Not an endorsement just Facts)

I prefer not to receive my analysis of the program from some jock sniffing undergrad- I find that a welcome differentiation from you.

Really? Really? You have a lot to learn. You're skating on thin ice here. Chill, and don't be such a douche. You'll have a much better (and longer) time here.

Yes, really...and I have already learned a great deal...and if I am skating on thin ice, aren't I already chilled?

Waaaaaay too well written for Bob. Seemore G has many issues, semi-literacy is not one of them.

No worries, however, schools open soon and he'll be back at his local high school cafeteria serving lunches.

Haha, this could not be further from the truth. I don't seek out players to talk to or ask for autographs and pictures. My main sources in the program aren't players. Sorry that I happen to be friends with some kids on our basketball and football teams and this makes me a jock sniffer. I need to choose better friends.

I'd agree with that last statement...wait...
