Nerd only. I'd say Geek is prob gone the other way. Calling anyone a geek is still bad news. Also as per Gangs of New York I wouldnt call anyone a Chiseler either.Wait, are we talking about nerds or geeks?
Personally, I think Tom Papa may be on to something.Hah the billionaire class has so many people making arguments for how they aren't "liquid". It's all in stock so they don't have access to it is a fallacy. This is a lie that far too many believe.
Sounds exactly like something a nerd would say.Calling someone a Nerd is actually becoming a sign of respect in the last few years. At least people that are under 40ish. Not anyone's fault but you can see difference generations at play here in the boards. Old and New.
- Over time, particularly with the rise of technology and fandoms, the term "nerd" has been reappropriated by some as a badge of pride.
- Big Think says individuals in fields like technology and gaming have embraced the term, finding strength in their intellectual pursuits and unique interests.
- Some see "nerd" as a way to identify with a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for specific subjects.
You really think SU doesn’t have perks etc for big $ NIL collective donors? If I were to put $100 or a $1000 into NIL, as me—some random alum living 3000+ miles away, sure, I’d just put it into a collective.
If I have hundreds of thousands or more to donate, and I’ve already been involved directly with players and coaches and recruits, no—I’d want to still be directly involved. It’s an experience he’s buying, not just a vague notion of ‘helping.’ If this were a scenario where a collective had been the first type of NIL opportunity, then maybe. But he’s already had it the other way. How could you feel your money is worth as much when you’re only writing a check? It’s several steps backward. More than that, though, feelings and personalities and some sorts of principles are involved.
And don't go callin' nobody a jive turkey.Nerd only. I'd say Geek is prob gone the other way. Calling anyone a geek is still bad news. Also as per Gangs of New York I wouldnt call anyone a Chiseler either.
ha just realized who you are, and we hung at the atlanta FF back in the day, lol. Apologies for the overreact.OK my friend, easy there.
I was joking. I do think anyone in their 50s or 60s pejoratively calling other people nerds might want rethink how they interact with others.
at least TRY and get your facts straight. AW made contributions to their choice of charity, while flying them in on his jet. No $ went to them personally. NONE.
And the horror the absolute horror of the fun show it was in the dome, having this exposure where everyone had a good time, creating good exposure for SU, AW etc.. And the article failed to make another point straight, AW paid all his bills to SU including security and has the receipts to show such
You were never in 'Nam...And don't go callin' nobody a jive turkey.
I really don't think about it at all. Either way, unless it matches the kind of experience a donor actually wants, they may be irrelevant. Maybe you could define those perks and perhaps inspire people to give more bigly? You really think SU doesn’t have perks etc for big $ NIL collective donors?
Don’t care if I’m doing anyone any favors one way or the other. Care about honesty truth and accuracy of the facts of the matter all of which is often lacking all throughout the threads about AW.I don’t think you are doing yourself any favors when you make this argument.
1) AW took money and spent it in exchange for services from an individual. He paid for the service. He paid for by donating to a charity the person wanted - but it’s still a payment. It affects AWs bank account in exactly the same way. Getting upset when someone says “AW paid to have celebrities sit with him” is getting really pedantic.
2). There’s been similar celebrity appearances at NJ Devils games I’ve taken my kids to, which my daughter still talks about. She still has very low interest in going to games and only goes for the food. Stuff like this does not move the needle at all for most people as far as getting them to buy more tickets. Him paying for people to sit with him helps his social media - that’s about it. It does nothing for Syracuse tangibly, and it’s very debatable it does anything intangible. So there’s at best trivial value in it to the school. I think this remains one of the major issues - AW appears to be very interested in “contributing” in ways that helps himself primarily and Syracuse minimally or not at all. Unshockingly, Syracuse has far less interest in that strategy.
He doesn’t deserve to be mocked for bringing fans to games. He does deserve to be mocked when he acts like it was a major contribution to the athletic department.
The podcast was painful.just what we needed - brent axe's thoughts on the matter
get me to atlanta already
Big time. The 1 Person I trust most in this matter is Melo as he seems to be the only one that has the sense to not take this stuff so personally plus with a son attending SU has the biggest stake in the game. He also is the one person in all of this that is actually liked by all and has the juice to make something happen if and when he decides.just what we needed - brent axe's thoughts on the matter
get me to atlanta already

That's one way.Mike Repole shows the way:

How Mike Repole’s Millions Pulled St. John's Into the NIL Era
The billionaire alum infused a swell of cash that helped Rick Pitino build a St. John’s roster that took men's basketball by storm.frontofficesports.com
When the school hired legendary head coach Rick Pitino in 2023, “I let [St. John’s] know that, listen, you guys would have my cooperation to do whatever it takes to help the university get back in the national spotlight,” Repole tells Front Office Sports.
….
He emphasizes that he wants the entire university to thrive—and his support of the basketball program is because the team is the school’s “front porch.”
…..
Repole doesn’t have a say in recruiting or making offers; instead, he provides the resources that Pitino may need to make sure he lands the right players.
Repole is the opposite of quiet. He sits practically on the SJU bench with his son and I swear I’ve seen him in the handshake line after games. He’s the first person hugging Pitino after wins. It’s a slippery slope. That's one way.
But, i thought i read something about how his presence is perceived by some as a negative. Those are also quotes from him—they're likely to be 'the right things to say.'
Whatever. That's one guy. One situation. If it were so easy to find basketball-addicted billionaires who want to be quiet and give blindly, everyone would be doing it.
Right. That's what i thought i had read a couple of months ago. I should ask my friend/former work colleague about that situation—he's been a diehard Redmen fanatic since the early 80s.Repole is the opposite of quiet. He sits practically on the SJU bench with his son and I swear I’ve seen him in the handshake line after games. He’s the first person hugging Pitino after wins. It’s a slippery slope.
Pitino is a great coach maybe the best but is also 72 and the way these guys with health issues are kicking off early it’s not going to be a long term thing at St John’s. Then what happens the billionaire picks the next coach? Or worse St Johns is now in a corner with their fanbase when they may not agree with Repole walks out with the cash bags?
*RIP Ozzy and Hulkster btw
Best Post of the Day Award winnerSo to summarize - Weitsman is a narcissist, Lally is a meathead with a grudge and our chancellor is a spineless mute. Moving on……
Big diff between paper net worth billions and liquidity in those amounts
K.total crap fantasy land making up a situation that would never happen. You don't know this guy, I do. Your suppositions are not only innaccurate and would never happen and a ridiculously poor analogy, but likely more a reflection of your own thought process than his.
I hope you haven’t missed out on the other thread covering the same article. Why did I waste several minutes of my life reading any of this? Please somebody make it end and may I forget it all.
Blasphemy. Its a big part of my morning cruising these threads and deciding which happy face emoji to give posts.I hope you haven’t missed out on the other thread covering the same article.
