Chris Carlson on SU & Weitsman

Yeah the expose I was hoping for really fell flat. Good to know he was donating less than 160K but aside from that the article was sorta boring.

It’s too bad AW & Lalleys don’t get along because it seems like we’d all win if they did.
I don't think it was about AW and the Lallys not getting a long. It more seems to be about a decision the Chancellor made regarding the university's relationship with AW.

BTW, a more general comment about the article I've been meaning to make -- the article states or implies that AW chose to walk away from SU. Yes, maybe as to whether he donates to collectives, but more generally his "decision" to walk away from SU seems to have been after school leadership decided to walk away from AW, for whatever reason they did.

Lally's name is on an athletic center, AW funded a personal luxury box. One helped us in the athletic arms race and the other funded a personal luxury box. The 2 aren't even close to being peers in the donation universe. AW messaging and calling Lally's wife after she asked him to stop crosses a line of no return for some people. They don't need to get along and probably never will.

I don't see the wisdom in posters calling a major donor a meathead and then whine about losing the athletic arms race.

It certainly appears to be that the board is driving the bus more than Kent here. I think the lack of response to Dasher about proves it.

there is no slippery slope anymore, essentially still no rules, you need every booster every cent and a business savy chancellor who cultivates such, not a nerd hiding on a hill.
This is 100% wrong.

Look up the Jaden Rashada situation from a couple years ago. The guy committed to Florida, with the promise of a $13.5 million payout from a booster group unaffiliated with the athletics program. The money doesn't come through, he sues the school. Oh, and also, he's not very good and is now at FCS Sacramento State.

How long before AW would get cranky because Autry / Brown weren't interested in a recruit AW was pushing and make it a well-publicized personal tragedy? How much would it be about AW if a team lands a star that he had fostered a relationship with? It's a can't-win situation for the coaching staff.

The guy has shown who he is 100 times. This isn't Caddyshack, where Al Czervik is the good guy.

FOMO there are so few billionaires, we all think he would be donating millions if he could do it his way. We all realize we need more cash for NIL, facilities, etc. there is potential for big donations but not a lot of desire on his part. We can’t let it go because of FOMO

If the BOT wanted AW around he would be around.
Not if Kent believes he's a risk to the school. It may be that the BOT member Dasher asked to introduce him to Kent knew that and knew how he'd react to anything to do with AW but maybe didn't think it was appropriate to tell Dasher that and speak for the Chancellor. If so, that leads to the question of why it was kept so hush hush. As I alluded to in a prior post, it may not have been a coincidence that Kent's decsion about AW was around the same time as his decision to move on from JB.

total crap fantasy land making up a situation that would never happen. You don't know this guy, I do. Your suppositions are not only innaccurate and would never happen and a ridiculously poor analogy, but likely more a reflection of your own thought process than his.

Meathead is overboard, but I don't think the Lallys trying to correct the record (in their view) is helping anything. There may have been some wisdom in letting the story cycle out of the news and moving on. I suspect very, very few readers came away from that article thinking anything negative about Mrs. Lally. It seems they're shining more of a light on that (minor) part of the overall story. It probably feels better defending her, but in terms of it changing any public perception the impact is likely very little.

People who have thousands of posts on a message board calling someone else a nerd is reallllllly something.

You can be an old jock and still a nerd. Sorry to disappoint.
Hey, it's in the tens of thousands of posts.

Put some respect on my name.

so youre suggesting I'm nerd like based on what? The fact we all like to follow Cuse sports?

This is the problem with people like you, injecting personal shots and passive aggressive insults when there is not cause for it. In reality I'm was an AA football player back in the day, now HOF, self employed in business 35 years, big like you and still an in shape 6'2" 250 and can be found the last 25 years a big part of the fine mess/Syracruz tailgate crew if you ever want to discuss this stuff face to face.

Sounds similar to what we have heard here. Also seems that neither party are likely to move away from their position. I mostly don’t care about this but it would be helpful to the program if Adam donated through a collective. Nothing in the article indicates that he can’t donate and publicize it.
If he can't publicize it, then what's the point?

So to summarize - Weitsman is a narcissist, Lally is a meathead with a grudge and our chancellor is a spineless mute. Moving on……
Love this.

Will add on that Autry and the new blood on the team just seem to be happy and working hard in the gym while the "adults" just are just having temper tantrums. I haven't seen the same drama and distractions as prior years and just hoping they have an us against the world mentality. Same as Fran Brown who we all know already is on top of things.

Just make the tournament this year just to shut up so many people.

I didn't miss anything -- it overlapped. AW didn't pony up much $$$. He had a chance AFTER NIL was formalized, and didn't. It wasn't just beforehand.

This isn't just timing-based. He talked a bigger game than what he ever produced in actuality. As Scooch has alluded to numerous times, I acknowledge that he spent money purchasing a luxury box over a multi-year span. By an overwhelming percentage, that's where he spent his money, moreso than $$$ to players [which this article confirms].

Which is why the fantasy about him -- a rich guy with cash to spend burning a hole in his pocket to advance the program / bolster NIL -- never came to fruition.

Agreed with your point about moving on, because he's like the guy who shows up at the car dealership 20 times, but never actually pulls the trigger.
Big diff between paper net worth billions and liquidity in those amounts

Hah the billionaire class has so many people making arguments for how they aren't "liquid". It's all in stock so they don't have access to it is a fallacy. This is a lie that far too many believe.

Did you see the photo AW posted the other day of him and Melo? There is zero percent chance that AW won't be in the Dome at some point this season. He might have chosen to walk away, but he will be walking back in.
