Chris Carlson on SU & Weitsman

You can’t make assumptions about personal cash flow and liquidity by some potentially overstated business balance sheet

Hah the billionaire class has so many people making arguments for how they aren't "liquid". It's all in stock so they don't have access to it is a fallacy. This is a lie that far too many believe.
I don’t know what this meanz

Don’t care if I’m doing anyone any favors one way or the other. Care about honesty truth and accuracy of the facts of the matter all of which is often lacking all throughout the threads about AW.

He never not once claimed nor inferred it as a “major contribution”, rather that the pr is good for eyes to the program. Not sure how to monetize that but it isn’t worth nothing as you, and others, seem to suggest. And for a program mired in, not even mediocrity lately that couldn’t hurt

As for your point number two, that’s been conceded already and addressed as a, Duh, the absolute horror he wants some exposure too.

C’mon man - your friendship with him is biasing you so you can’t see reality. That is EXACTLY what he’s inferred on his social media platforms since things between him and Syracuse went south.

And the “PR” is worth effectively nothing. NOT ANYTHING. AT ALL - to Syracuse. It has no value. Period, end of story. You and AW can live in a delusional world where it does have some massive value the school refuses to recognize. But that’s part of the problem - an unwillingness on the part of AW and his pals like you to hear and accept that.

It will never be resolved in a way that brings AW back into the fold until he accepts that message. It’s not going to happen, he’s too invested in a fantasy where his Instagram posts bring massive value to Syracuse - which is why he will NEVER be a significant contributor to Syracuse athletics.

Syracuse football gets going in a few weeks. I'm pumped for hoops. Syracuse NIL, as far as I can tell, is fairly solid. If AW wants to invest via a collective, so be it. I'd love that. If he doesn't want to do it that way, it is what it is. He's not a major donor. Personally, I'd place some blame on the university (my alma mater) and on AW (my friend) for all of this. But if he's not going to donate, this story is, to me, a non-story moving forward. Wishing him well. Love 'Cuse. :)

None of this looks good for either side TBH... which is where it's been all along.
I still fail to see how this looks bad for SU unless one is looking for it to look bad.

They have not banned a donor. Let me repeat: THEY HAVE NOT BANNED A DONOR. They are insisting that said donor contribute via collectives just like you or I or most donors do. How does that make SU look bad?

They certainly appear to have compensated for any supposed shortfall from that donor via increases from other donors. How does that make SU look bad?

SU is not getting down in the mud and keeping this story alive, the PR machine of the donor in question is. How does trying to stay above the fray make SU look bad?

My loyalty is to my alma mater but at the same time I have no bone to pick with the donor. I don't know him at all. I am basically neutral except for the insinuation that SU and the chancellor have done anything wrong simply because one donor's ego was ruffled.

at least TRY and get your facts straight. AW made contributions to their choice of charity, while flying them in on his jet. No $ went to them personally. NONE.

And the horror the absolute horror of the fun show it was in the dome, having this exposure where everyone had a good time, creating good exposure for SU, AW etc.. And the article failed to make another point straight, AW paid all his bills to SU including security and has the receipts to show such
They were having fun wrong.

A longtime time board ITK, fan, alum, and general bequeather of goodwill, dasher , reached out to the school and BOT on this issue to try and broker an understanding between both parties and the school/chancellor deemed him not worthy of a response.

100% the school's prerogative but that's not good public relations - at all. There's a right way to handle it if the answer is "no" (which I am fine with btw).

OK, I like dash a lot. My initial reaction was the same as what you are saying.

However, as I have stated elsewhere, he reached out to a couple of BOT members and they declined to get involved. That, in and of itself, is a response. It would be to me.

Not knowing how many other people have contacted SU about doing something similar, and I bet it is a lot, their SOP may well be to not say anything. Not seeing where this makes SU look bad with the broader fan base.

Etan good to hear from you.

I am sure some feel that the treatment Dash got is 100% OK and well within the school's purview as a an appropriate response.

As Dash had connections and prior history with members of the BOT, we'll agree to disagree on that.

I am not surprised there are differing opinions on this tho, actually.

Also, I am not saying your average fan will have the detailed knowledge of the topic that many on this forum have, so the impact across the fanbase is deffo limited. That said, AW is doing his thing on SM and presenting the narrative he was "wronged" by the administration, so people will see it and some will dig deeper.

I never said it was 100% OK. My initial reaction was that he deserved a”form letter” response, at minimum. I still think that would have been nice.

But I have tried to look at both sides, and I can conceive of reasons for them to have not responded.

Truthfully, dasher is one of my favorites and that is probably the only reason I care even this much. If a non-poster or some poster named BowneHall44 or whatever had written them, I would have already forgotten the whole thing.

That's my point... If it was a Joe Schmo off the street with no connections and that got zero response, OK.

... but Dash is not Joe Schmo and not even acknowledging him with a human response in some fashion was an unforced error by the Administration - all I am saying.

If the Chancellor wanted to talk with AW, I'm sure he knew how to do it - he apparently doesn't want to. Dash has no relationship with the Chancellor and no relationship with AW, except for a phone call, and Dash has no standing in the issue, except that he is one fan out of tens of thousands. Yes, it would have been nice if someone in the administration had responded, but I image the Chancellor gets many, many unsolicited emails every day. I think this issue has been blown way out of proportion.

Like I said, not surprised some feel Dasher wasn't worthy of a response either and he's just another fan schmo to be ignored. I think that is misguided and agree to disagree on that.

At the end of the day, as an alum and STH, he was and is a customer with BOT connections (and possibly a donor himself?)

You always have great responses. The only thing in my mind after watching SU since the 50's along with Steve who we all miss. When I was a teen in the 50's it seemed that SU really cared about the fans and community. Then along came Shaw and Jake and things changed. Jake was a football coach trying to be an AD, and Shaw didn't care about fans or the community.
That's where we are now, and until we get better leadership on the hill it will stay that way.
The University needs to have everyone on board in this new frontier of college sports or we will be left behind.

I too have been watching SU since the 50's.

As for Jake, I used to send him emails occasionally about something or other and I always got a lengthy, well-thought out response every time. He once came up to me in a resort lobby in Tucson because I was wearing an SU shirt and we had a great conversation. So my personal experience was that he cared about fans and alums.

As for the current leadership, you appear to be down on them more than I am, but we all have our points of view.

I actually feel in the last few years with JW as
AD we have made good progress in turning things around. Just feel it's time for a new leader at the top with a vision to involve all parties.

Totally agree. I feel the university holds a lot of the blame for how this unfolded.
