Chris Carlson on SU & Weitsman

I've gotten phone calls tonight from two of my cousins in Syracuse. The Carlson/Waters article is on the front page (above the fold) of today (Sunday)'s print edition of the Post-Standard. They both wanted to know if I've read it (I said yes, on Monday morning) and what I thought about it. It sounds like Chris Carlson and Mike Waters may have added some info on things that happened since Monday. One of my cousins who called knows the Chancellor and said he thinks that KS & AW just have very different personalities. I told him I thought there was more to it than that. He wasn't surprised that Dasher did not get a response from the Chancellor's Office because they don't want to acknowledge anything about the situation and just want to keep their heads down.

Things are still in limbo. But, it isn't without possibility

what is in limbo? what isnt without possibility.

i feel like you are answering a question that i dont think FloridaCuse asked? but i assume you mean weitsman coming back?

Reaction to the article outside the fan board has been interesting in my world. I had a handful of "fans" contact me after getting Sunday's paper and they all basically asked the same thing - "can I get a Cliff notes version, the article was too long and boring" and "rich people fighting over paying a rich school".
I forget how layered our fan base is from the rabid (us) to the casuals.

It’s definitely not a first world problem to most people.

Sounds like Kent needs to unclench his buttcheeks just a little.
Likely he’s worried about landing his next cushy gig on a board somewhere else. These guys don’t want to rock the boat this late in the game. Maybe some other dying industry. Dunder Mifflin maybe.

Kent should be applauded, this isn't something he should be concerned with. It shouldn't be a part of his job responsibilities as Chancellor.
I don't know. Everything that goes on at the University is his responsibility. And having a big donor help the athletics, would seem to me, kind of important. Now, he can't meet with everyone. But he should be able to find time for a guy that he might be able to hit up for other causes at the University.

Has he demonstrated any interest in helping “other causes” over 20+ years?

I do not agree with applaud for how this played out. All here sides look pretty silly. It also has some other tones to it and I can’t say I like the nature of the tones in my personal opinion. The university needs alum and locals.

I always thought that was the biggest part of a Chancellor or University Presidents job. Raising funds for campus initiatives. No different than a CEO of a major non-profit. They are very rarely going to get their hands dirty, but they are going to meet with a lot of influential alumni and business leaders.

There are plenty of locals who are HUGE supporters of SU Athletics over the years. And the new brands have been great too.

This is not "townie" vs alumni tones.

It's "attention seeking weirdo trying to market his redemption story by buying players" tones.

The University absolutely needs alums and locals. The townies are the ones that are going to support the athletic programs by dragging their butts up the hill on a Tuesday night in the middle of winter. Or, if the football team is any good, they might decide to support them on a fall weekend.

The alumni are going to support more on the academic initiatives because they fondly remember their days at the Newhouse school or Maxwell. Since most alumni live 4+ hours away, they might come in for a game once a year. At the most .

Agreed. This situation has been mishandled on both the AW and Administration sides IMO. Both looking amateur hour, I'm afraid.

I don’t see how SU looks bad from this article. More vindicated. And they were never the loud one.

I don’t think it’s that hard to see. It got away from SU. Bickering in the sand box leading to public drama. Should have been ahead but as public as this is obviously they were behind in this.
