Clemson Fan- My Thoughts

I'm not here to convince you guys that Syracuse has no chance, or even that Clemson is going to win. It's just not going to be b/c of the crowd. That was the point of my OP.

I was honestly surprised by how convinced your fans are that the crowd is going to be some deciding factor. That's why I brought it up. I'm sorry, but IMO, this team has played in tougher environments and performed well. If you're here to try and convince me that 49k Syracuse fans can be louder than 85k FSU fans, I'm sorry, I'm just not going to agree with you. FSU, Clemson, and other southern schools don't have to use Groupons to convince only 49k fans to show up to watch their team play a top 5 team. We sell out for SC State. And before you tell me it's because you got to be good to get fans to come, SC (who I absolutely can't stand) had 80k in their stadium every game when they were in a 21 game losing streak. That's right, a 21 game losing streak.

People in different regions are passionate about different things. I'm never gonna try and convince you that our BBall crowd will be as good as yours. Please don't do the same to me. We're more passionate than you, and we have 35k more people that are right on top of you as well. Simply having a roof is not enough to put the Carrier Dome on Clemson's level. Sorry, but it's the truth.

I guess many of us wouldnt make the comparison because we haven't been to Clemson's stadium yet. I hear great things and i know a lot of us plan on making the trip next year. Until then,we wouldn't actually know what we were talking about. Similar to your experience in the Dome. Or lack thereof.

I don't think you came here to start anything but I think your unwillingness to accept that perhaps the Dome is an experience a bit different than you originally thought comes off as a bit d!ckish.

Congratulations on your success. Hopefully we can join you at the top of the ACC over the next few years.

I guess nothing will change your mind then. I'm sorry you can't understand even when people who have been in more environments than you (real coaches) say its at least as loud if not louder. It's not that our 50k is louder than 80k... it's that our 50k is enclosed in a very small volume. The dome isn't very big and I'll be the first to admit that. The comparison you make is 50k vs. 80k and you fail to account for the other variables in play here.. I mean I don't know what you need. Not saying its going to win us the game either, I'm just talking purely about our environment. I hope you come up saturday and experience it but by the way your talking I'm assuming you're not.

You know nothing about how any other stadiums are designed, particularly Death Valley. You act like we're Michigan or something and the sound doesn't stay in.

I could bore yall with quotes from coaches, players, etc as yall have me. Over the years, every team I've ever come across with anything more than a HS stadium have accumulated those soundbites or quotes.

I'm just not going to put the Carrier Dome on Death Valley's level. Ask any reputable sportscaster, non-biased sports person and I'm confident that you will find no more than a handful that will agree with your position. But to each their own.

You've never been to the Dome, right? Clemson has never played at the Dome. I understand that southern football atmosphere is vastly superior to the northeast, but you can't at least ENTERTAIN the notion that, when it's rocking, the Dome offers an incredibly loud, occasionally intimidating atmosphere?

Your absolute refusal to even keep an open mind is a little absurd. You don't have to believe we can create an atmosphere like Death Valley, but the fact you outright refuse to believe we can be loud and disruptive as a crowd is just ridiculous and a little douchey.

I've completely agreed that the dome is a great venue, and obviously a different and unique experience. I'm just unwilling to put it at the top of the ACC with FSU and Clemson. I might could put you in the ballpark of a VT, but I honestly feel like its on par with GT or NC State. This isn't a slight in the least, as you will see when you visit those venues.

Even if it was an "FSU type environment," as I've pointed out, Clemson performed very well down there and the crowd was little to no factor. Add one more year of experience for Tajh, Sammy, and 4 Olinemen, and you can begin to understand why I don't think it will have much effect on the outcome...

aghhhh there is the troll. The OP was 100% patronizing, didnt take long to get the real feelings out.

Funny, how he says "his" team has played in tougher environments, yet THEY HAVE NEVER PLAYED HERE. Nice generalization.

That's not true at all. I've only put my foot down on comparing it to Death Valley or Doak. That's where I draw the line. I've even conceded VT! How is that not keeping an open mind? I just honestly don't understand...

In fairness, you conceded VT after I had already posted, so that's obviously not what I was referring to.

Not trolling at all.

Even in the Carrier's Dome hayday, I've never seen it compared to the likes of an FSU. So yes, I feel like we have played in tougher environments even though we haven't played there. Oh, btw, that game was at night and gameday in town. You can say they were a little pumped up.

Fair enough. I've been to VT a couple times and it's a great envirom

You are correct, my apologies.

You don't seem to get it at all. IF the dome is rocking, everything your team does will have to be done with hand signals. Everything...offense AND defense. Audibles end up being INaudible. Communication will be disrupted. Teams have done all sorts of stuff to prepare for the noise with negligible results. I find you either arrogant or naive..not sure which, yet. Welcome to the real Loud House.

someone post the video of the McNabb touchdown run vs Tenn 1998, where you cant even hear the band playing

LOL, your fans cheer when YOUR offense is on the field. You can't be serious.

I truly hope you come up here and experience it yourself because nothing else will change your mind.

If it was me? Purely on sound and nothing else ill take 50,000 enclosed in a very small space like the dome over 80,000 people any day. It's physics.

And we didn't have to deal with this at FSU last year? Where we hung up 28 by HT? Maybe it's you that doesn't understand what's going on. You obviously know nothing about our offense or how we signal in plays.

I've seen the good teams come into a loud Carrier Dome and get rattled. I've seen good teams come into a loud Carrier Dome and it looks like it's just any other game for them. So no idea if it will matter. I hope it does. The Dome doesn't rock very much anymore, but when it does, I think it will be harder than GT or NC State. Fans are right on top of you, there's nowhere for the noise to go. But a couple big plays here or there, they quiet like any other place.

As for the humidity, again, it's not like the hot places. Miami players (of all people) used to cramp up here all the time. It's just hard to prepare for.

I just hope it's a competitive game. Two scenarios, Clemson wins by a lot, or it's a close game. The SU winning by a lot would be a pleasant surprise but I think that's off the table. So here's to a close game.

Palmer is just showing the typical Southern FB Fan attitude.

He is correct that DV is an absolutely awesome gameday environment. It is a pride thing that nothing in the North can be bigger, louder, better. Sadly they have us on the bigger and better on the stadium thing. It is up to us to show him that we can be as loud as DV and Doak. We'll need the team to hang in all 4 quarters.

They love waving around their stadiums in the measuring contest, bring up basketball and they tell us it is irrelevant, it is boring, you remember we used to hear that from VTech fans. Clemson fans will be surprised to check out Syracuse's Best BB game rating versus their best FB Rating from last season. FB wins weekly in the ratings but BB in March is pretty damn special and most of these Southern FB schools miss out on that.

Here's my thought: Arguing on the internet is useless. Let's see what happens on Saturday. May the better team win.
Wouldn't it be nice if everyone was sensible enough to take this point of view?

I'm sometimes not sure people on message boards understand they have absolutely no impact on the outcome of a single game.

Tom Palmer? Is that you?

Lol, Clemson Tom is ridiculous.

I stand by everything I've said. Please let me know which of my points you think I'm off base on. I know there's a lot going on in this thread, but I 100% am not trolling and stand by everything I've said...

Nothing wrong with what you are saying (other than the dismissive attitude) I see it everyday living in TX and also when I lived in FL. Northern FB for the most part lacks the passion that the South has.

I will concede all things BBall. I love BBall and it's certainly not irrelevant to me. Clemson is not on Syracuse's level in Bball, but yall aren't on our level in football. Pretty straight forward.

But football is #1, even Swofford had to admit that much in his last round of negotiations.

Wait a minute...WHAT???? Arguing on the internet is useless?? Crap - there goes about 15 years of my life...

Here's to a good game. And a Syracuse victory.
