Coach Search Options after Autry

One thing that's abundantly clear is that we're going to see the fanbase tear itself apart arguing over the coach for a month.

Sometimes I envy the $EC and B$G for not having to deal with this mess. They just hire the most sought after and expensive coach on the market without all the process and concern. If it doesn't work they just bounce them out the door a year or two later, pay the buyout and move on to the next and the next.

Their fanbases don't care because it's alot easier to live with things going bad because they bought the most expensive product that everyone else wanted to.

We sit here being told things didn't happen they way they should because XYZ but then we look back and are like well we paid a coach no one else wanted. What did we expect.

I really hope we don't repeat history taking a coach that is desperate because they have no other options. Are we really the right place to rebound careers or even start careers? I think not.

It's pretty benign around here as P4 fanbases go...

I don't think debating the hires is a big deal.

Bigger deal will be what hapens when the hires are announced...

Lots of longtime fans are looking for a statement of intent with these hires, and if it goes the way some red flags have been indicating, there is a critical mass of fans ready to walk away I think.

I really worry the power brokers don't fully understand that, but hopefully I am wrong about all that.

He wouldn’t make a great coach for anyone. Based on track record, he is as qualified as the guy that’s getting fired. Why go with the same thing we have?

What difference does that make? He doesn't coach a P4 team? If he was here, he would be coaching a P4 team. Apples to Apples.

I agree, but just for fun, I took a look at his 3 years he has played 6 P4 games and is 1-5 in those game but here is the kicker, they are all on the road, and he has played Alabama every year. So he is 1-5 against P4 school playing only on the road as a MM school not horrible.

Also just for fun, he smashed Schertz last year in the NIT by 25 points.
And beat Utah State and Calhoun this year at home holding them to only 61 points

My point is Their fanbases don’t sit around arguing what coaching hire has the least downside. They just pay for the best coach on the market or overpay to steal a proven coach.

Are you reading the messages here? It’s even worse on the usual social media how all over the place our fanbase is reasoning out which coach “they can live with”.

I get your point I just disagree. Those fan bases constantly argue about the upside/downside of their hires. I mean just look at the recent Penn State football hiring debacle. They ended up with, what, their 7th choice?

Just make it Hodgson and have him bring in a solid staff. Get Kingz, Kiyan and Sadiq on board to stay and maybe Fennell too. Bring in Enis, CJ Brown and maybe BH could bring in Rashaud Marshall who played for him at Ark St and blew up/ massively improved this year for 21-6 Austin Peay as the collection of former players to blend then go get the rest in the portal or find a couple overseas guys or late non commitals.

I say keep Sadiq because BH is the type of coach and the style of play to unlock his game.

It’s why we care. If it drives people away who they pick that said person is an idiot. No matter the selection I’m rooting for the success. It’s my school after all.

Fill in the rest via *new guys* portal/euro/late to commit frosh including at least one big $$ and two more immediate high value contributors.

Something like that at least. Kingz and Enis together could have monster years and Brown might not be a shooter but he can run the system well. You then get your additions plus push on Kiyan and Sadiq to lock in and make a big leap.

This simply is not true. The Kentucky fanbase went nuts on social media as just one of many examples.

I love Mike Hopkins. I LOVE Gerry McNamara. If Bryan Hodgson isn't the next coach of Syracuse basketball it will be a gigantic mistake. If he's not the next coach because Hopkins or McNamara is instead, it will be an all timer. Syracuse is fortunate a coach of the caliber of Hodgson is available to dig them out of the mess Autry has made. Don't make the problem worse...hire Hodgson.

This may have been answered somewhere else on the board, but I see you refer to TS% in several of your posts. What exactly is that metric?

It measures shooting efficiency incorporating 3pt FGs, 2 pt FGs and FTs.

It gives you a full snapshot of the efficiency of a player and his shooting.

GMac, for example:

FG%: 37.5% for his career (no one would say this is good)
FT%: 88.8%

Now, as a small guard, his career TS% is 54.7% (which is pretty good for a smaller guard that had a heavy offensive load). That counts that he took a lot of threes and made a decent amount. And he made almost all of his FTs. So it's a better snapshot of his shooting efficiency as it pertains to value to the team.
