Coach Search Options after Autry

Sorry, I fundamentally disagree with this premise. That's short-term, wishful thinking and does not reflect the realities attached to the candidate it comes with when thinking longer term.

Two years from now, Kiyan is gone, Melo leaves the program. Now what?

And it might be only 1 year, after this upcoming season, before Kiyan bails for the NBA.

That's my fear.

One-time, short term influx of admittedly large $$$, that quickly evaporates. And we're left with another subpar, no-trick pony head coach who can't coach his way out of a paper bag [based upon what unfolded at UW].

I can say this with certainty - Melo has a package of $30 million (and growing) lined up for Hop. This includes nba players, local guys and a few that have never donated to cuse ever before. The plan is to front load that money for the first 2 years to immediately become relevant. But that’s what the deal is for Hop from Melo.
I wish Kiyan went to USC. None of this would have happened. The irony is he will be the first one to get booed next year if this is a disaster.

We have some great posters here making such well articulated points. Can we get some of y'all on the local talk radio, podcasts and on Axe’s show to spread the gospel of why Hop would be an absolutely horrendous hire? I’m not kidding here. We have to push back on Paulie and Infanti and Axe and others from rationalizing this hire as it goes further down the tracks. Media pushback will be key to getting into the decision makers ears before they make another massive mistake.
If that were only true. The university make decisions period. Like Caesar “ let it be written, let be done!”

I wouldn't expect anything in college sports to persist long term so it's not the drawback it used to be

In five to ten years, who knows what the world is like, the wealth is going to be insane if AI doesn't kill us all

The drawback IS real, if it becomes only a one year or two year benefit, that quickly goes away.

Talk about short sighted "planning."

Old money + stakeholders vs new money. People are invested in the traditional brand and don’t want to see it handed over to the Bryan “the shark” Hodgson, also known as The Guppy to some. We aren’t at rock bottom where the majority of the donor class wants a complete overhaul. The brand isn’t dead; it just smells funny. They are literally putting up the money to revive it. You love to see it!!!

Supposedly we have a 3 year commitment. And I can't see KA leaving for the pros after this year. If he did, that would be a wonderful turn of events.

There's 10 schools with NIL over 10 million this year.

Michigan and Duke are great. They also have great coaching.

Texas Tech is just behind them and they lost their best player unfortunately.

St. Johns, Arkansas, BYU, and Louisville are just behind them and they've been somewhat of a disappointment based on preseason expectations.

North Carolina and Kentucky have both underachieved.

Indiana is a bubble team.

If I had to predict at best we would probably be a UNC or UK type team with a lot of money. Hop isn't outcoaching anyone.

The Big 12 model is the way to go. Build a friggin program.

Let’s just acknowledge there’s a coalition of people who believe in Mike enough to stroke big checks. We can pick apart his record all we want, but that is a statement.
