I’m done reading this thread. Not sure where these insiders are getting their sources from, but I went directly to Lally on X. He gave me permission to share the following:
It would be hilarious if the 75 pages are just based on speculation and rumor.

The Acedemics arnt getting better until everyone realizes USNews are narrative pushing hacks.

We could become Ivy Level over night, but because we lack a med school and aren't artificially selective, we won't move up.

While that's a nice thought, many of SU's best students (and those paying full tuition) are foreign students. SU has lost a lot of those applicants, which is going to drive down average SAT scores and selectivity.

SU also relies on too many adjunct professors and pays them terrible money.
Those professors don't publish, and many of them don't teach at SU for very long.
That also hurts the reputational score, and won't be fixed anytime soon.

This is also true, my USnews complaints are not just about SU.
And yeah the Foreign problem is an issue for a lot of colleges and it's not being fixed for at least 3 more years.
The adjunct professors and such, yeah that's an issue.

Not to get too doom and gloom... but we're all whistling dixie while the iceberg looms ahead.

With the new grads job crash and the impending white collar job crash I suspect these 200+ threads will be a fond memory of a "better time".

Upstate and by extension NYS will never allow SU to resurrect its med school. Way too many well paid bureaucrats would vociferously object.

Agree! And I probably could do a better job of expressing it, but my point is there is no empirical evidence that Hodgson, with a TBD roster, can beat the Duke, UNC, Virginia and Louisville level teams he would be facing here. Very well possible he can, but without the evidence I can’t necessarily say missing out on him would be an abject failure or that he is the only one of the rumored candidates that should be considered. And we tried the faith without evidence thing, didn’t we?
My thoughts are Hodgson is using the Nate Oats blueprint, philosophy, analytics.

Oats won at UB, beat SU, went to Alabama, by January of his 2nd year, Alabama got into the Top 10 and became a bona fide Final 4 contender from that point and nearly every year since. Competing with Kentucky, Pearl at Auburn, Barnes at Tenny.

Hodgson has shown quality at every stop. This looks like pretty good evidence to promote him to a P4 job compared to a failed retread who nobody but SU is knocking down his door for, sans maybe BC.

To me there is no comparison if you take the feelings and fond memories from 10 years ago out of the equation.

Well yeah, in no way am I implying we should get a med school, because that's not happening.

I'm on page 182 with no end in sight.
Seriously guys, I'm currently in a non legal state. I'm gonna run out of pot wayyy before I get caught up on this thread. Either help me find a connection in Fort Myers, or hire a basketball coach already
Luckily, I left Saudi Arabia yesterday for a weekend getaway in Bahrain. I have room serviced enough beers to get through this...I think. My wife is bringing the other stuff you speak of when she picks me up at the airport when I get back to the states in early May. Shes a keeper.

Same offensive concepts, but I do think Hodgson is putting a lot of emphasis to be more than just 1 dimensional. You can tell he is putting a lot of emphasis on improving the defensive side of the ball. Much easier to push tempo when you have a good defensive causing turnovers.

This is great and all but I think no one here was concerned about the Lally's until we had to be concerned about them given the push by Hopkins/Melo (and potentially AW).

A week ago everyone "felt" and this is the insiders too that BH was the answer and frontrunner with or without the Lally's.

It's the new contender that jumped in the ring with support that was the reason everyone got excited.

Just saying it's the other side of the fence we need commentary from because they're making the bigger promises on money and are pushing a lesser candidate in Hop (imo).

It's funny that's there's all this hand wringing by the old guard about how Syracuse is a poor school that couldn't possibly compete with other schools and their coterie of billionaires for premier coaching hires, staff and players.

A few weeks later and SU has ... a coterie of billionaires and multi-millionaires jockeying to influence hires to key positions. Unfortunately, they are not premier coaches and staff but retreads, friends, and other schools' problems.

Syracuse isn't a poor school, they just make poor decisions.
I'll admit, I had to look up "coterie." Well done.

I would guess that, if these numbers are real (I have some doubts, but there is a lot of smoke and a lot of people hearing the same thing), the people making the decisions must be asking themselves: what world is this?

What if either falls through and we end up having to hire someone out of left field, so we don't get the up and coming Hodgson and whatever NIL funds he brings or don't get the Hop/Melo combo with a the supposed big bag?

What if we end up with a decent option but no real cache or funding behind him?

So the true doomsday scenario - Lyke and a new HC along the lines of Shaheen Holloway or Tony Skinn (or someone lower down the list).

Again, not focusing on any question at all. Simply making the point that there is no empirical evidence that Hodgson would be the can’t miss, sure fire thing some are portraying him to be. If he gets the gig I certainly hope he is, but until then I am willing to accept the possibility that there may be other qualified candidates.

But there IS empirical evidence abut Hodgson's ability to make an immediate impact and drive success / wins, and not just one but TWO schools [Arkansas State and USF].

No choice is ever a "sure thing." Not sure what metric would possibly cover that.
