Coach Search Options after Autry

I’m done reading this thread. Not sure where these insiders are getting their sources from, but I went directly to Lally on X. He gave me permission to share the following:
This is great and all but I think no one here was concerned about the Lally's until we had to be concerned about them given the push by Hopkins/Melo (and potentially AW).

A week ago everyone "felt" and this is the insiders too that BH was the answer and frontrunner with or without the Lally's.

It's the new contender that jumped in the ring with support that was the reason everyone got excited.

Just saying it's the other side of the fence we need commentary from because they're making the bigger promises on money and are pushing a lesser candidate in Hop (imo).

It's funny that's there's all this hand wringing by the old guard about how Syracuse is a poor school that couldn't possibly compete with other schools and their coterie of billionaires for premier coaching hires, staff and players.

A few weeks later and SU has ... a coterie of billionaires and multi-millionaires jockeying to influence hires to key positions. Unfortunately, they are not premier coaches and staff but retreads, friends, and other schools' problems.

Syracuse isn't a poor school, they just make poor decisions.
I'll admit, I had to look up "coterie." Well done.

I would guess that, if these numbers are real (I have some doubts, but there is a lot of smoke and a lot of people hearing the same thing), the people making the decisions must be asking themselves: what world is this?

What if either falls through and we end up having to hire someone out of left field, so we don't get the up and coming Hodgson and whatever NIL funds he brings or don't get the Hop/Melo combo with a the supposed big bag?

What if we end up with a decent option but no real cache or funding behind him?

So the true doomsday scenario - Lyke and a new HC along the lines of Shaheen Holloway or Tony Skinn (or someone lower down the list).

Again, not focusing on any question at all. Simply making the point that there is no empirical evidence that Hodgson would be the can’t miss, sure fire thing some are portraying him to be. If he gets the gig I certainly hope he is, but until then I am willing to accept the possibility that there may be other qualified candidates.

But there IS empirical evidence abut Hodgson's ability to make an immediate impact and drive success / wins, and not just one but TWO schools [Arkansas State and USF].

No choice is ever a "sure thing." Not sure what metric would possibly cover that.

I don't think the University can hire an AD with Title IX issues only a few years after the Hillsman debacle. Would be pretty rough.
Was thinking the same - an ongoing Title IX investigation, given SU's recent history with QH, coupled with her financial disaster & dismissal at Pitt, makes her about as unhirable a candidate as I can imagine. I remain shocked we're even discussing it.

You might be missing the big picture here. Our next A.D. and JW was perfect for this, is going to be important in the next round of realignment. I don't think Lyke can help us one bit.

This ^, I can't stress enough how much of a potential disaster Lyke would be as the new AD. If the new chancellor has any sort of a clue his first act is to get JW to change his mind on retirement, I don't care if you have to double his salary, Lyke is not the answer.

Luckily, I left Saudi Arabia yesterday for a weekend getaway in Bahrain. I have room serviced enough beers to get through this...I think. My wife is bringing the other stuff you speak of when she picks me up at the airport when I get back to the states in early May. Shes a keeper.
Hit up Senor Paco's for some cheap margaritas while you're there :)

Didn't Dash or Bulldog mention a number pages back that JAB is in the Team MeloHop camp?

I would think he'd be involved wrangling his big donor supporters (to some degree at least) if the $30 mil figure is remotely true.
I missed it among (checking notes)…200 pages of content

If the powers that be want a woman AD, find another one. Vicky Chun at Yale, previously at Colgate, Ros Durant at ESPN, the AD at Lafayette (not the AD at Cornell). Look beyond someone recently fired at a peer school facing of all things Title IX woes.
Candace Lee is crushing it at Vandy, not that we would ever do what is necessary for a splashy hire.

They're humans being who are subject to the same biases and flaws that we all have.

The issue is that, without a rigorous process led by someone universally respected, those biases and flaws may yield a lousy outcome.

My concern is that there's no real process, just cliques doing their own thing and fighting for control.

Search committees are often just a way to check a box unfortunately and as it seems that very much could be the case here from what’s been shared where a committee opines on two competing campaigns vs operating the way most would hope.

She literally has massive Title IX allegations against her administration, there is more to being pro women than hiring a woman.

Again with the conference realignment end game coming up and the challenges SU faces it's hard to think of a worst hire. I am not an email the School guy for a # of reasons but in this case I encourage anyone who cares to reach out to anyone of importance at SU to express their concern regarding this potential hire including Wildhack himself. He should seriously consider postponing his retirement, it's that serious.

I agree with you but I have to remind everyone here. She has already been hired and has been a special assistant since last year. Some but maybe not all of these things were already known so we got her for 50% on the dollar. Essentially she is going for an internal promotion and is not a new hire.

She's a University employee already so whoever made that decision is going to have to suck it up and say they were wrong and fire her or the next Chancellor or AD will.

I'm guessing the outside consultant for the AD position is a response to her ongoing investigation and the baggage she has. It's a way to cover our butts when she does get fired. At least I hope.

Other schools seem capable of mitigating any dysfunction, finding consensus, and makeing key decisions for well-qualified, good hires. We seem to really struggle with this.
Idk about that... Have you been following the going ons at say, Michigan or LSU?

Just sent John an email.

This is... something i guess. I dont believe for a second they aren't giving input. The PR spin is well done though.
