Coach Search Options after Autry

You are either underestimating the intelligence of the Board or overestimating your own.

At least be intellectual honest with yourself. Negative characterizations like "alleged rock star," and "try not to take yourself so seriously" sure seemed derogatory in intent. But yup, you did not question his "resume."

Unjustifiably, I couldn’t respond to your subsequent post until now. The alleged rock star reference was made as this is an anonymous cyberspace forum, where folks roll with aliases versus their true identity. Case in point, your 007 moniker…unless, of course, you’re truly a British special agent?

If Dasher (or anyone for that matter) subjects themselves to “aggravation” while making voluntary posts (again, on an anonymous web sports forum) then yeah, perhaps one shouldn’t take it/themselves so seriously. Hence, the count to ten/breathing reference, as well as the emoji at the end of my original post; an attempt in keeping the matter light. Preserving my “intellectual honesty,” if you maintain thinking it’s a negative characterization and/or derogatory assertion, so be it. As with anything, folks will interpret, believe, etc. things as they see fit.

The premise was one of affect, emotional impact, etc. The weight of any emotion, positive or negative (negative here due to the ‘aggravation’ admittance) exists based upon the level of attention one voluntarily chooses to give it. Therefore, comprehensively, why give it any attention at all?

I’ll stand by my viewpoint that I wasn’t questioning Dasher’s track record, or success thereof, relative to his connections, accuracy, etc. Something I haven’t ever done with him related to this particular subject matter.

Interestingly, I received an immediate two-week ban, yet the deemed objectionable post remained. Other than perhaps, intentionally and unfairly being left hung out to dry, one can only imagine as to why that was?

Yeah, it seems like programs in great cities/locations are actually hurt by it in a way. There’s too many other options and the local college team can only rise so far up the pecking order

And the number of people who would consider Tampa "great" can be counted on one hand...

I appreciated reading this post, if for anything, your writing style, honestly quite elegant. I for one voice dictate, So I apologize to the readers if I do not proofread, or if there are grammatical errors. In any event honestly I have felt that if you have an opposing viewpoint actually based in objectivity. You can still certainly get beat up by the powers that be. In any event, I very much appreciate fans of this University. No matter what it, it is still a public sports forum with subjective information and unequivocally misinformation potentially. Nevertheless aristocratic banning should not take place based upon opinion right? Especially for those who actually contribute to this program and certainly I trust see the big picture. Good day and thank you

I'll just say this... these are the exact same words used before we hired Dino Babers.

I agree with the sentiment, but let's make sure there is substance behind the marketing message. FWIW BH has a similar profile to Dino before he got to Syracuse. Before you say but but BH coached at Alabama... Babers was at Baylor under Art Briles before he go to Syracuse.

Not saying BH will turn out like Dino... I think BH is much more aggressive when it comes to recruiting, but it remains to be seen whether he can build a sustainable program. Dino never built a program before Syracuse and we found out he probably couldn't build one period while he was here. Again BH seems young enough and passionate enough that he will build something, but he will definitely be learning on the job.

I understand the comprison, and you aren't wrong about it being only a couple of years.

HOWEVER, it has been across two teams. And I think this trumps any of those "remains to be seen" cautions. I mean, look at the performance across these advanced metrics and USF's national ranking across several of them... and this is in Hodgson's FIRST SEASON at the helm there, after having to scramble to field a roster this past offseason.

This is EXACTLY what we need at Syracuse, to get the program back on track. Anyone expressing skepticism about "empirical evidence" with respect to Hodgson's systems -- here it is:

Quick glance at some of those numbers, they have improved. Didn't do a deep dive, just surface level stuff...

They are now:

16th in Tempo
17th in 9.1 steals/g
10th in PPG

I cannot like your post more. If BH isn’t hired it will be an epic fail. He is gonna kill at whatever P4 he lands. We will have the first crack at hiring him.

Hell FFF’n YES!!!!

I’ll take this every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

As a fan - who wouldn’t want to watch this system?

As a player - who wouldn’t want to play in it?

We snoozed and losed on Oates.
Please for the love of Otto don’t FFF this up again, Syracuse power’s that be.

Don’t try to be clever or overthink it.

Has there ever been a situation that meets this criteria:

-A coach that wants to be here
-The coach has had early success in his career and is actually qualified for the job
-Coach is young in his coaching career, so he wouldn't break the bank in buyout or contract
-The majority of fans would be happy with this hire

Has any search ever checked all those boxes?
It would make no sense for Syracuse just to go against all that. LOL Like, actually crazy.

Sounds like he likes Tampa. I'd be pretty hesitant to trade Tampa for Syracuse, it would have to be a pretty sweet offer.
He wants the Syracuse job. Pretty good knowledge on that. He’s also from the southern tier of NY, spent a large portuon of his life in the Buffalo area. He grew up a Cuse fan. He’s familiar with the northeast, great recruiter and would run circles around Red as a coach. He turned around both spots he’s been a head coach at and rather quickly, including Arkansas State who really has no history of being any good. He was a stud assistant with Oats

Also some personal facts about him. His mom had him when she was 15 years old. He grew up in foster care. He’s a hell of a story and great with the media. He would rejuvenate the program pretty damn quick. He’s also someone that would likely stay at Cuse and it would take a lot to wooo him away from Syracuse. And he’s young for head coaching standards especially this the success he’s had. If we don’t get Schertz. Hodgson needs to be plan 1B. Both would kill it here and I think both will interview here and Hodgson wants this job. If Schertz passes on it. It’s Hodgson’s for the taking

Seriously, I lowkey hope Schertz passes on it if he has first dibs. Schertz is a great basketball coach and will have success wherever he is. I am that high on BH! I truly think he embodies the demeanor in the most perfect way for a head coach that we need for Syracuse Men’s Basketball moving forward.

That’s a Fran kind of backstory, I had no idea about his upbringing, wow!

I agree. I grew up in Syracuse (Westhill). Went to Siena and came back after college. Been down in Lakewood ranch the last 7 years. I would need a godfather type offer to even THINK about coming back north.

Same here. Born in Buffalo, lived in Syracuse, graduated from SU, my father graduated and my grandfather graduated from SU. I live a little further south than you and it would take a lot to get me to move back. My heart will always be there but not my azz.

What would you expect him to say? He also said the Buffalo wing place will probably become his favorite.

Believe me, I want him back in NYS coaching SU, but Tampa, to me, is much more attractive than Syracuse.
I'm hoping SU makes an attractive offer and doesn't screw around.

I've also gone from wanting Schertz first to wanting Hodgson first. It just seems too good to be true for me, so I'm hoping to hell SU doesn't ffff it up.
