Coach Search Options after Autry

It’s all accounting. It’s a function of how much the school wants to spend on basketball and football. Football matters more long term for the conference game and it’s getting more attention is part of the issue. The school could fund both if they wanted to. It’s an issue of priorities.
I understand that part, but we can’t afford plane rides for these guys? What are we top 5-7 all time in wins? That’s insane and bush league.

Okay. But for a school busing to games, where are we going to get the dough to buy him out and hire someone decent? I have seen no reason to believe that Red can coach. None. But where are we going to get the money? We don't have the money to get elite talent in the portal.
The shocking part is who does he have a buyout?? If he has anything more than maybe a years salary of buyout, then JW needs to be fired. JW did him a favor by hiring him, no need to give him a fully guaranteed buyout.

I get being frustrated, but the Wildhack stuff is just frustration coming out. Everyone’s happy with football and he’s lead that effort. There weren’t going to be any AD’s that wouldnt have given Autry a shot.

Boosters have to pay for buyouts, which means less NIL money or money for facilities.

JW will have to open the wallet to fix this. We need to hire an experienced coach to fixed this. Nothing else is going to fix this. We need a proven coach and program builder and we are going to have to over pay for it. PERIOD. That is it.

Shaka Smart who is coaching at his home school will need a massive salary to pull him away but I would give it...
Sean Miller would be a good coach to chase as well. Built winners in AZ brought in tons of talent in shady ways back then but legal ways now. Might have some Fran Brown type connections with money.

I like Bryan Hodgson.
Born and raised in Western New York.
Was Nate Oats assistant at Buffalo and Alabama.
Was lead recruiter for Alabama and brought in some great recruits.
Now he is HC at Arkansas State. Has them turned around after being awful. They beat Memphis this season.
My pick….absolute shark on the trail

We can afford it the University chooses not to big difference

Okay. Once again, he isn't going to come here for free. And we have to buy Red out. With what money.
If this season craters, I hope someone is examining if it will cost the university more money in the long run to bring Autry back for year 3. The existing talent and the new recruits will be gone like a fart in the wind, and the gutted program will be Louisville-bad for Autry Year 3.

I think letting that happen would cost more money than cutting Autry lose. Let football be an example of what can happen when the school commits to acting like a big-time program.

Then we need to evaluate what we want to be, or can be. Being good cost money now, and we all know once the school has to provide it, the end is near.

Hiring Fran Brown was also a gamble, if he doesn’t land McCord it could of been just as ugly as basketball.Im not sure we have committed yet to being a big time football program.

Red will be here next year due to the recruiting class. However, I’m assuming Grif gets the axe this year.

Next year will be the make or break year for Red. NCAAT or we move in another direction.

We have been patient with a lot of bad coaches over the years in football. If anything, it has given us a keen eye as to what a bad coach is. Red is Gerg-level bad. A program killer. Next year’s freshmen aren’t going to save us. Blow it all up and bring in a proven winner and program builder. It makes no sense to delay the inevitable.

white is a non shooting PF. if we are being honest with each other you can find that in a lot of other ways.
Yeah I have friends in Charlotte who say his game is athleticism. We need skill.

Look at dashers post in this thread and the question is answered
My question is what’s the difference between having to do a buyout this year or next year then?

That recruiting class will likely be toast if we bottom out. NLIs don't mean what they used to.

I think we are the past the point trying to land a “big name”. Drop down a level and get a HC who’s a proven program builder with a system and style
We’ve got the perfect candidate about 30 miles from Syracuse

It seems that some ITK have been hinting the problem is not football ... it's the school's decision to underfund the basketball program purposely.

I.e. We're now willing float the boat for one (but not both programs) adequately, and we all know where the bread is buttered...

If that's true, then that's something that's not easily remedied with just a new b-ball coach.

It's also likely that top D1 coaching candidates (and their agents) will know about the busing to games, the broken treadmills in melo center, etc.

It's not exactly an enticing job under these circumstances if we're purposely underfunding the program to be less competitive.

As i get older the losses mean less and less. I just dont get worked up anymore like i used too
This goes back to the final JB years but I don't plan my schedule around SU hoops anymore. If not around I'll DVR and watch later. From what I've read there's a morbid I have about crunch time so I'll check it out later.
