Red didn't. He coached under Seth Greenberg. Not to be mean but I want no part of any coach who spent the entirety of their career with JB.

Fundamentally false.Bottom Line Red is bad. We hired the wrong assistant. And for all you Boeheim haters, you are getting what you wished for.
He was someone I had on my list because he was known as a good recruiter and learned under Oats at Alabama. But admit i haven’t followed what he’s done at Arkansas State.I like Bryan Hodgson.
Born and raised in Western New York.
Was Nate Oats assistant at Buffalo and Alabama.
Was lead recruiter for Alabama and brought in some great recruits.
Now he is HC at Arkansas State. Has them turned around after being awful. They beat Memphis this season.
Serious question—i really don’t know/remember: Oats was recruiting on a different level at Buffalo? Who? How?Oats was much more of a complete candidate than Langel, especially on the recruiting front.
Didn’t think he was going to coach forever but if you can’t see he was pushed out then I don’t know what to tell you. The grass isn’t always greener and we are seeing that now. And you may not have been as hater, but there were several on this board who were.Fundamentally false.
There were no Boeheim “haters.”
Among those of us who wanted Boeheim to retire or even to be fired later, many wanted an outside hire—so, no, not what we wished for.
If you think JB was going to coach forever and also somehow reverse his trends, I don’t kniw what to tell you. Telling you anything likely wouldn’t register.
There was a lot more talent at Buffalo than Langel has had at Colgate. One of his disciples, Hodgson currently Arkansas State, is an upstate NY guy that has been mentioned in this thread and would probably be an excellent fit.Serious question—i really don’t know/remember: Oats was recruiting on a different level at Buffalo? JB ran the program into the ground so he could let his sons and their friends play 40 minutes a game. The program was trending further and further down. I imagined Red or Gmac would get a few years and fail to turn things around. I hoped I was wrong, but it doesn't appear to be the case.Bottom Line Red is bad. We hired the wrong assistant. And for all you Boeheim haters, you are getting what you wished for.
Disagree. If by some miracle we make the tourney, we’d lose Sadiq/Kiyan/Eli anyway and still be stuck with RedI’ve said many times SU is big a corporate machine. Wildhack, the Chancelor and the Board are as Corporate as you get.
They are making decisions based on keeping their jobs and so they can get their next job. They are not going to overhaul all our major sports programs at the same time cleaning house. That would put their job on the line when it goes bad.
They gambled on Fran and made the safe short term choice with Autry. One decision was a home run and the other looks like a bust.
Next year is win win. We either make the tourney or we get a new hoops coach.
You’re still misunderstanding. Of course he was ‘pushed out.’ Years after he agreed to retire. And yes, I was one of those people who, long before, was never a big Boeheim fan, and wanted him to retire earlier than most. That’s not the point. I/we never “hated” Boeheim. We could respect what he did for us, and still recognize when he began to not have 100% invested, and when the game was passing him by, and when he was given the gift of coaching his kids, to our longterm detriment. That’s not “hating” the man.Didn’t think he was going to coach forever but if you can’t see he was pushed out then I don’t know what to tell you. The grass isn’t always greener and we are seeing that now. And you may not have been as hater, but there were several on this board who were.
Yet we keep being told we are coming up way short in that department. Are these donors actually supporting Red or not?We need someone outside the program to exercise the demons of the past decade plus.
I do not think our program is strong enough to move on from the JB era. Too many donors are JB over everything and this has now transferred to Red. Too many donors would lose strong connections to the program by “going outside the family.” They fear having less knowledge and influence over the program. JB built connections over 5 decades and those connections fear what happens next,
I think Red gets 1 or 2 more years.
I doubt that means anything ever since players decide schools on a year by year basis. How many years did A.D, Millhouse give him? Remember, other schools use it against you when the coach is on a short contract.
Would be a shame if there were a bunch of transf... waitHow many years did A.D, Millhouse give him? Remember, other schools use it against you when the coach is on a short contract.
What's wild is that team went 23-13, finished 4th in the Big East (9-7), and was ranked as late as February before they lost 4 of their last 6 in the regular season.do you not remember the dumpster fire that was Cuse b-ball before Melo got on campus in 2002? Deshaun Williams punching the girl that was Otto at the bar.
Yea. Personally I got to watch some of the best football I’ve seen in 25 years in the last 3 months. The brand of cuse is no more--at least in hoops...
No one outside of the SEC and some Big 10 schools are getting a big name. That goes for UNC too. Heck UK had to settle on their 4th or 5th choice this offseason. That said Langel probably would have us with a lot better of a record with the same talent we have this year.Perhaps. But it may be Langel from Colgate or some other mid-major coach w/o P4 experience.
If the rumors are true, we're not getting a big name with p4 experience.
You guys are too emotional about this. If Gmac turns Siena around and gets them in the tournament the next two years he’s definitely getting a look. We would be stupid not to. IF he turns it around there.I am at that point to where we need to just go outsidethe family and get a fresh look. Only one I’d like is Gmac but he is still green. Problem is, is there anyone out there that would make a splash coming in?
Who knows who will be available in 2 yearsWho should JW realistically look at?
Probably looking hard at mid major HCs is my guess. Too risky to take an assistant and too cheap to lure away a big name coach.
They actually lost 9 of 13 games in a stretch and 3 of those 23 wins at the end were the NIT. The way that team played down the stretch is prob just as bad as we are right now without JJ.What's wild is that team went 23-13, finished 4th in the Big East (9-7), and was ranked as late as February before they lost 4 of their last 6 in the regular season.
That "dumpter fire" would almost certainly beat this team by 20 points. And trash talk them until they cried too.

They already surpassed their win total from last year, which was a paltry 4 games. They are now 5-5. Same record as us. He’s doing something right but at the same time there’s no way he could of did worse. Let’s see how both teams finish out.You guys are too emotional about this.
