Coach Search Options after Autry

Look at dashers post in this thread and the question is answered
SU hung with Grandpa for 3 years too long to save coin. Red is safe for next year.

I will never understand why a top basketball school would hire an unproven assistant coach to be their head coach. If the Syracuse job opened up, there would be a long line of successful head coaches who would line up for the job.

Red can still turn it around, but he needs to hire one or two very experienced assistant coaches that can help him develop an offensive scheme.

JW will have to open the wallet to fix this. We need to hire an experienced coach to fixed this. Nothing else is going to fix this. We need a proven coach and program builder and we are going to have to over pay for it. PERIOD. That is it.

Shaka Smart who is coaching at his home school will need a massive salary to pull him away but I would give it...
Sean Miller would be a good coach to chase as well. Built winners in AZ brought in tons of talent in shady ways back then but legal ways now. Might have some Fran Brown type connections with money.
Shaka and Sean are not in play. Reds our coach next year. It is what it is until Melo changes his mind.

Hubert Davis, Jon Scheyer etc

Have some of you not witnessed what has happened at Louisville and UK recently?

Duke and UNC have too much money and tradition for it to fail. Those programs were in good shape when the baton was handed over to them. Kenny Payne and Juwan Howard didn’t work out so well… now look at those new coaches when those programs went external

Is anyone here remotely impressed by Ed Cooley? I remember a portion of the board that wanted him hired to replace JB. He was 9-23 last year and he barely has Georgetown better than us this year. And thats with them supposedly having double the NIL budget of us. Our fans are pretty poor at predicting who is a potentially good candidate.

Having a lot of nil money and support can hide a lot of coaching flaws :)
Even so UNC fans have about run out of patience with Hubert. He better turn it around this year.

Yeah I have friends in Charlotte who say his game is athleticism. We need skill.
Concur. Athleticism great, applying it to basketball at high D1 level still work in process. Compare to Jerami Grant in that I don’t believe he’ll be ready to be a star day 1 but could be very good soph

Oats was much more of a complete candidate than Langel, especially on the recruiting front.
There’s also a lot more local talent from the city of Buffalo and Rochester that he could pluck, not to mention UB doesn’t have the academic standards that Colgate has. It’s not an apples to apples fair comparison

Lol. I can relate. I didnt leave the house for 3 days when we lost to st johns in the 85 finals
And when, or if, we get it back, you'll start feeling that way a bit more. Youre numb because the losses have become way more of a norm than they were for literal decades.

If this doesn't end in 3 months things will get ugly and it will be unfair to next year's young team.

Autry enjoyed pretty much universal support for 2 full offseasons, one regular season where we were never close to an NCAA berth, and the LeMoyne game. I think from Youngstown St to today 99% of us realized it will never work out with him.

Red under contract through 2028.

I sure there is an underperformance cheap buyout clause.
28!

There is no way they gave him a contract committed to him that long with no head coaching experience.

This had to be let's see if you can right the ship in 2-3 years.

More were dating not married long term.

We also could have done worse than Red. The point is that we don't have to settle for marginal options. Again.

How? Kenny Payne was already at L'ville. It could not be worse than this.

After the Butler loss in 2010 i changed my ways. I completely hit total rock bottom that night and swore i wouldnt let games affect me again like that one did.
