Coach Search Options after Autry

It’s one game. One doesn’t prove anything more than the other. People seem to think coaching one good game makes him a genius.

Gerry isn't my first choice. But to diminish what he's done at Siena is silly.

I think the issue is there are a number of posters who think Gerry deserves the job based on taking Duke to the wire in one game and winning his conference tournament. Making the hire based on one game, or a week of games, is crazy. But to debate those people you have to present arguments against Gerry.

To me it's clear: the arguments are against Gerry right now. It's too soon. I think he's done a good job at Siena so far, and I think he's going to be a very good coach, but his best chance at success at Syracuse is not right now it's in the future. Maybe the job is open then, maybe not.

Blair said he wanted a coach who played a fast and entertaining brand of basketball. Analytics are important and should have a record of success!

I’ve said he’s done a good job at Siena. I question whether he’s shown enough to make me comfortable with him at SU. Everyone seems to be saying the Duke game proves he is. I don’t believe one game proves anything, unless it’s the national championship game. Even then I’m not sure.

Okay. But a national championship would sure be good enough for me.

Heck that's a lot of the SEC in general. Look at Georgia (football players), Auburn, LSU, etc.

This is what I’m seeing as well. It’s not that we don’t think Gerry could be right, but the fact that the board 180’d on him being “not not ready” to the answer after BH dropped and he coached a good game against Duke (but still lost)

Yea I think he’s noticed a few noticeable gaping holes in our athletics and he’s basically hinted at that in a professional way in the 3-4 different interviews he’s had since joining. The one with Matt Park is my favorite so far. He wants to make the dome “unbearable” to play in. Which it has been in the past.

So you’re saying it’s a no lose situation. If it’s a close game it proves he’s a good coach. The losses are because of the talent, and doesn’t say anything about coaching.

I’m just fascinated by everyone taking the Duke game as such positive proof. Gerry coached against another P4 program, Indiana, who didn’t make the tournament. Indiana 81 - Siena 60. And that was with the guys who weren’t there for Duke. Hmmm.

It’s like recruiting. The other guy has to say yes. Blair as a P4 AD is unknown to coaches. The will need to have due diligence on Blair, and maybe the new Chancellor.

but it's not just 1 game. that was the icing on the cake. it's what he's done over the 2 years there. taking a 4 win team to 23 wins and the opportunity to play that duke game.
