This is looking more and more like Kenny Payne season 2 by the game. Only some squeaker wins against the dregs of D1 are preventing SU from matching that fiasco.

For the first time in years, a game was on and I was like mehhh. They stink. I did other things and checked in on the score a few times. Even 3 years ago I wouldn't have done this for any SU game, much less SU vs GT.

I feel the same way. I dvr every game and watch after it starts. I really want to get in the game chat to see if I should waste my time watching.

I just can’t understand how it’s even possible. All the money that Syracuse has brought in over the years. The move to the ACC was about football and more money. All these things were to boost the athletic department financially. I mean for the past 4 decades we’ve had the largest basketball crowds in the country and one of the largest brands. I get football is just swinging back in the right direction but it just doesn’t make any sense.

It’s a fair question but he was linked to the ND job when that opened up. Maybe he is happy in central NY? There’s sometimes more that goes into this stuff. All I am saying is that it’s difficult to win at Colgate, even compared to other mid majors. His track record of patriot league championships is impressive

I will surprised if Red is not the coach next year, but I have no confidence in Wildhack when and if a change is made. He got lucky because somebody not on his radar (or probably anybody's) called and sold him on becoming the next football coach. If you know any good under the radar coaches, please ask them to call Wildhack.

Maybe Fran can recruit a good basketball coach!

My biggest fear is say Red gets the 3rd year like everyone wants? Then lets say he sneaks into the tournament because of talent then what? We get him for another 5 years? What is the end game? I can tell he can't coach at this level so this feels a whole lot like a Dino situation.

Was just typing the same. Dino was like 1-2 wins away from extensions. Luckily that didn’t happen.

For Autry Was last year some beginners luck? is a year like we have now even 10 games in ever acceptable for the Orange. Even if it’s only once every few years I don’t think so.

Like you said say we sneak in next year with big names and some big help in the portal with the Anthony’s. Is sneaking in the tourney and these up and down dysfunctional seasons ok. No way.

He was in such high demand from other p5 schools. Not really, he wasnt in demand from the colonial athletic conference

JB ran the program into the ground so he could let his sons and their friends play 40 minutes a game. The program was trending further and further down. I imagined Red or Gmac would get a few years and fail to turn things around. I hoped I was wrong, but it doesn't appear to be the case.

What I wished for? I wish for Syracuse to be a relevant basketball team again. And this period is just something we have to go through because the school felt JB was owed even more than the millions of dollars he got to coach basketball in one of the most recognizable venues in the country for 40 years.

But we didn't think that Autry couldn't coach.

We need someone outside the program to exercise the demons of the past decade plus.

I do not think our program is strong enough to move on from the JB era. Too many donors are JB over everything and this has now transferred to Red. Too many donors would lose strong connections to the program by “going outside the family.” They fear having less knowledge and influence over the program. JB built connections over 5 decades and those connections fear what happens next,

I think Red gets 1 or 2 more years.

But Fran came from outside the program and has reconnected with and honors the alums. Why can't a new basketball coach that is hired do the same?

They already surpassed their win total from last year, which was a paltry 4 games. They are now 5-5. Same record as us. He’s doing something right but at the same time there’s no way he could of did worse. Let’s see how both teams finish out.

At least his team looks like it's been coached.

The bama coach is from UB. Sometimes you just need to take a chance on someone who has had success. I’d be 100% on board with Langel and I am sure many others would as well.

He was Donnie’s main recruiter at Bama. Him leaving was the reason why Donnie didn’t go there.

I don't want to say this as a joke or be offensive but the only way things get worse is something like the Baylor murder situation or Marshall plane crash.

There's no sanctions anymore.

Basketball wise it really can't. And that's with a roster that is overall OK nice freshmen class and some talent.

Who cares that we survived 3 OTs vs Youngstown State who's been drilled by 40 by everyone else of the new guy loses to them it's no different than this trash.

Let’s be real, if Red can’t coach up Freeman and Moore why would we think White and Kayan would make any difference?

They’re good prospects but shouldn’t be the reason for Red to get another year. Time to cut the cord and find a new coach. We’re prolonging the inevitable if they allow Red to stay for another year.

I’m all on board for Bryan Hodgson. The guy is a top recruiter AND can coach! He’s young (only 37) and already has a ton of connections. For everyone who wanted Nate Oates, Hodgson is perfect since our chances of luring Oates are in the rearview. Hodgson is from Olean and went to Fredonia, so he knows the Northeast very well and recruited a ton of talent to Bama. He would lock up the Northeast (like Fran has done in football) and would also bring in Canadian talent. I’m 100% in on Hodgson!
