From what I can tell he has 1 P5 win and that was Louisville last year. 4-8 in their noncon last year to start and the rest was beating up the 1 bid sunbelt. They look better this year but still this guy is 37. Even Fran Brown who’s real young has 5 years on him.
I completely get where you are coming from, but this is the first guy I've read about any time the "who would come here to coach" topic comes up on here that looks like a promising option. He also beat a good Memphis team already this year. Better than any win we have. I feel like this could be a do-over for not going after Oats.

Yea agreed. It’s actually crazy that last year we actually beat tourney teams. UNC and NC state twice. I think there were some others. This year not likely but who knows.
Hard to say. Others in the know are saying we have the money, but are unwilling to spend it on both sports. Everyone knows football is the biggest generator of revenue. Maybe the plan is to bolster the football program to get it in a consistent good spot? I can somewhat understand that logic. If football turns into a perennial top 25 program, there will be more revenue for all sports. Problem is we are sacrificing the basketball program at this very moment. I believe the athletic department's standing hinges on the next 5 years of football success.

This is really what I’m hoping. The whole ship was leaking across all our major programs. Fix one leak at a time. Clearly we’re not dealing with geniuses on the hill running things or we wouldn’t be here so maybe that’s the best we can do.
That, and, his offense is something this current staff could not comprehend running..

He was 9-23 last year and their best win is against us. They won’t make the tournament.
this is the problem...like a tom crean scenario...totally incapable of becoming truly elite...but good enough to get good enough recruits to be decent and underacheive from there...but doing just well enough that he keeps the job...
Judgments aren't made from one game. The systemic issues that have become clear this season put everything in jeopardy. Last season was supposed to be a bust, and things have gone backwards from there. Coaching and talent management are key to keeping talent on the roster and in the pipeline. Being okay with a "rebuild" (not really a thing anymore in the portal era) is universes apart from being okay with sitting on the bench during the rebuild, which is going to be a big possibility based on the management of Freeman.
I wish GMac all the success in his coaching career, but he should not be the next head coach at Syracuse. It would be more of the same. Program needs a fresh start completely disassociated from JB.
We could get a successful P5 coach. But it would have to be someone looking for a change of scenery or dealing with a discontented fanbase, like Shaka leaving Texas for Marquette, Barnes going to Tennessee after he was let go from Texas, or Dixon bolting Pitt for TCU after the Pitt fan base starting grumbling about him. All have had good to great success at their new schools.
I think Luke Murray has a high ceiling. But he hasn’t been a head coach before so it is somewhat of a risk.
