When you have the biggest on campus arena in the country, which annually generates in the top 2 or 3 in revenues in all of college basketball, you don't just sacrifice that money.
We might only have 2/3 of the capacity for basketball as for football, but we play 20 or so home games, versus only 6 or 7 for football. The TV revenue is tilted to football, but game day revenue favors hoops, just because of 3 times as many home dates. Even if football draws 40K and hoops 20K on average, you have an extra 150K fan visits more per year for hoops.
