So against my better judgement - which is not stellar to begin with - do you understand that Nate Oats has a current buyout of $18 million? That is one of, if not the most expensive, buyouts for a basketball coach anywhere. He just signed an extension into 2030. Between his buyout and his salary, those negotiations will likely start around $25 million and this on top of whatever NIL guarantees he will certainly demand. His salary compensation is only a small piece of what it would cost SU. And, SU is already struggling to meet the revenue share obligations, even with reasonable HC salary contracts.

007 - Good luck convincing some on this board. I have a better chance of winning the Power Ball $1.5 billion in tonight’s drawing than Nate Oates ever coaching at SU. That ship sailed when we had a chance when he was at Buffalo.

Atleast get the facts correct if your going to demean my ideas. His buyout reduces to $10 million on March 31st, 2026, $4 million the year after, and then $0. The escalation on salary is $551,000 a year through 2029-2030 when he is projected to make $7,550,000. I did say it's highly likely not going to happen and for various reasons beyond even financial. All my point was is that this is the only guy they should be reaching for beyond budget that would almost certainly provide a good ROI for Syracuse and maybe even himself where its worth the financial risk. He is a documented Syracuse Basketball fan. Also, NIL wise, atleast this season they are not exactly out of the Syracuse ball park. Results wise they are in the top 25.

Honestly, I like the way you think. I understand that there are limitations but why not think big? It is a WAY lower amount of money but everyone thought Kyle McCord was a pipe dream until he wasn't.

Being honest, what makes him a home run ? Personally I could care less about anything other than the big three SU sports (football, lax, MBB) but am curious as to what makes this guy better than Nancy or Kent.

He cares about athletics 100x more than Kent. Everyone raves about the guy and he will be far more innovative in his decisions that will help the university and athletic department as a whole.

That’s great to hear. We’ve seen a bigger commitment to football since Fran has been here. Now, we need to see the same for hoops for both men and women. I’m glad he’s someone who thinks outside the box. I hope he’s the home run you predict he is. The fact that this search is nearing a conclusion already, says a lot about Dr. Haney.

His work at Whitman and the Veterans Institute speaks for itself. Also with peace and love to predecessors, and based off extremely limited interactions with him, he seems like a very normal person who understands real world and the world of academia.

The Veterans Institute is probably the most interesting/successful initiative the school has done in the last 10-15 years. Cool to see the architect of it rewarded.

Commitment to women’s hoops is nice but we need to make men’s lax more important. Women’s hoops has never been a thing here. Lax is the clear #3
 
Even if we cross every current P4 HC off the list… I think there’s so many good mid major options, as well as P4 assistants.

NIL and Kline will give us the roster we need.

We just need the Xs and Os to be more creative. We need to be able to make in-game adjustments.

Disagree. Women’s hoops is going big time around the country. Seventy percent of the country doesn’t even know what lacrosse is. You don’t see lacrosse televised. CNY is a hotbed for lacrosse, but not everywhere else. Schools are financing women’s basketball and ratings are surpassing men’s basketball in some areas. You can’t compare women’s basketball ratings to lacrosse. Just look at the difference is the physicality of women’s basketball and women’s lacrosse. It’s a joke in women’s lacrosse. You touch someone and you get a free shot. It’s boring and I enjoy lacrosse. I’m sure you’re referring to men’s lacrosse and probably not women’s, but women’s basketball surpasses both men and women’s lacrosse on a national basis. In the south and on west coast money is being pumped into baseball and softball. It’s a good debate. I wish we could support all of them.

March and April blow now that men’s basketball sucks but the other 10 months are perfect in my opinion. Those two months are awful. Very little sun, lots of rain/snow, between seasons so you can’t do winter or summer activities outside.

Women’s College Basketball essentially runs Thursday and Sunday ratings outside the NFL. The product is getting better every year.
