Coach Search Options after Autry

I don't think this is a last stand sort of thing. It could be with the changing landscape. More of a last stand for me with my age. Most of you guys can have us miss this time and still recover. I only have 15 or so tournaments left.
So you’re saying if BH isn’t the guy the program may be dead for 15 years.

Sometimes dash it might be better to lie and tell us we’ll be ok.

I can say with the utmost confidence that our next coach is Brian Hodgson. Thing are in progress and this will be done and announced once USF is out of the ncaa tournament. It is a job he really wants and he is going to get it.

We don’t hate JJ. We hate the way he’s used and featured as the primary on offense. He scores a lot, we typically lose.
He has a 45-42 record as a starter with the worst efficiency from a 2 guard in 20 plus years since Meshaun. That includes other guys that were badgered here like Girard, Buddy, Cooney, Battle, Triche…etc.

Cooney is the only su player to play in two final fours, and at times was treated like a piranha. Let that sink in.

I hope your sources are correct on this one. dasher and Bulldog04 have me scared today that we may mess it up lol

He wants to give 10 million to hoops he can name the coach. So far, he hasn't given a dime to hoop. I don't think the school is going to held hostage to any donor. I will say this, there are other donors that are potentially being lined up for another candidate. I wouldn't bet against BH. But I wouldn't bet on him either.
Gerry? The other candidate?

Absolutely correct. At times this year, we have looked great.
But we are too inconsistent, and we lack mental toughness.
I think his biggest weakness is his inability to hold people accountable. I know the offense sucks too. Someone who attends practices almost every day says Red does not hold everyone accountable at practice. Rule number 1 is when the whistle blows, you stop what you’re doing instantly. He told me it doesn’t happen. That tells me all I need to know. After Donnie’s second technical today, Red slaps Donnie hand and holds on as Donnie walks by. You can’t be your players best friend during practices and during games. You do that off the court. This teams lack of urgency and toughness is astounding at times.

That’s the point: he will give money to hoops with Hodgson.

To be fair he mentioned neutron bomb several times if he just let loose ha

Leading the American Conference so I guess we’ll see. Right now the same number as Schertz or any other candidate people are wishing for.
That’s my point. For a program looking for a proven coach and an established winner, why are so many folks getting excited about folks who have accomplished nothing in the P4 or the tourney. Any one of these coaches being thrown around is taking a flyer on upside, which is exactly what we did with Red. Let’s not make the same mistake again.

Good to hear. Gilardino doesn’t post a lot, but he has a history of being right. I trust that his source knows as much as anyone.

How many tourney games has Hodgson won?????

That would really matter to me if he were an older coach he was been coaching for over a decade and hadn't made it to the tournament yet but that is not the case.

He is in his 3rd season as a coach and his second stop.

1st stop took over a terrible team and program in Arkansas State and in his first year finished 4th and in his second year won the regular season and lost in the conference tournament finals. 1 bid league so no NCAA tournament. He then left to USF

2nd stop USF two seasons removed from having their coach pass away and historically a terrible program and was terrible the season before he arrived. Currently has them first in their conference.

Like do we ignore his success in quickly turning around terrible programs because he didn't win a his conference tournament in a 1 bid league, even though he does have 1 regular season title and on his way to the second?

I think our job isn't as desired as much as we would have thought and hoped. Let me put it this way, if BH didn't want the job as badly as he does and wanted to pass on it, people here would be suicidal on the names I have heard.

So between what you and Bulldong have hinted at on the "dropoff" in candidates after Hodg...

Are we?...
  • Light on pay packet for quality coach and staff?
  • Light on projected NIL to assemble a competitive squad?
  • Key donors simply wanting some tertiary tier dark horse candidates that most others would consider not qualified?
  • A combination of some of the above?
  • Something else?
I guess the real question is that if Hodg is the top candidate, but we have paypacket and NIL limitations, can we even get him across the line??

No quality candidate will want to be setup to fail... And BD saying that may be how gmac is looking at the gig right now is concerning...

This other candidate, will us fans like this candidate or to quote you in another post, make us want to find the nearest bridge?
