Coach Search Options after Autry

I can say Hop is in play (and another SU alumni) and his ability to raise NIL is his main selling point. I still think it will be an outside hire but he's absolutely in the mix and not gonna go quietly ie NIL

It's in addition . But like all investors, he wants to see what Hop can do with his donation.

Then, based on Hopkins' past history of coaching, I wouldn't risk that even if he got the money, he would be able to maintain a level of coaching that would keep the people giving the 25 million. My thinking is if we stay in-house and spend 20-25 million dollars on a roster and Hopkins fails, then the program is done. We will not be able to raise that money from those people again; the door will be shut. A blow like that could send our basketball program to the level of our football program.

The risk versus reward would be too much. I would rather gamble on a different coach and a different direction.

That's cool. Like you, I'm tired of the mediocrity. I just had an unexpected medical situation unfold in the last weeks, that thankfully resolved favorably, but could have gone in a different direction. Life is short, I want to see Syracuse basketball be good again.

I'm tired of rationalization, excuses, and people trying to talk themselves into subpar candidates being the right guys to turn things around.
Believe me, I'm not doing that. I don't want Hopkins or Gerry. I'm glad everything worked out for you health wise. That is what matters. And I also have less years left to get us back to games in March that matters.

He would have to start the season 15-0 just to generate any attendance next year. Anything less than that and there will be 1000 people in the dome. There will be no grace period from Red.

I think a lot of us are approaching an age where our best years are behind us. I want what we used to have. I want to know how many fans can fill the new JMA Dome for a basketball game. After I retired, I wanted to travel to NCAA games. I’m still waiting.

I'm having fun with this RF. It's not life and death. But there is a number that we couldn't ignore.
Take it to the bank that over the next couple of days at least one poster is going to say "but, dasher said Hop is backed by the Saudi Prince...he has to be the guy." Followed by at least 2 other posters who will claim that they are hearing the same from "their sources."

Okay, it was a joke guys. Just the thought that money and that is what Hop is really banking on, makes a play in things like this.

These posts about Hop and GMAC are making me ill. Just when I thought we were going in the direction of Hodgson, then some people are saying it might not happen. Yet others say it is. Hopefully Lally's money mean something.

I think he could put a tema together that would generate a buzz but I also think SU needs to go outside the SU alumni/coaching tree route. Program and fanbase needs a fresh start.

You may have meant it as a joke but thats literally what is happening. Hop is playing the NIL angle and has $$$ behind him.

Don't get ill. I think we all agree that is most likely will be BH. Just that it isn't 100% yet.

Who is saying it won’t happen? I think each of us trying to share info believe Hodgson is the clear top choice. Likely to be wrapped up soon.

Not a poster. ChatGPT will. Just like that Autry article that said he had a 10 year contract. All hail our AI overlords.

Agreed. The Goodwill has been expended by the University. When red got hired, it was" well, if things don't work out, we'll go 2 years and then move on."

Psychologically, I think a big portion of the fanbase has moved on at this point, and the only thing that will reverse the disinterest is an infusion of new ideas and fresh blood.
