If Hopkins gets this job it’s the definition of insanity. Another great guy who is not a head coach. There’s a reason he’s an assistant coach in a the NBA and never got another head coaching job in college. Only SU would think he’s head coaching material. I can’t believe this administration is so out of touch.Hopkins in Syracuse this weekend.
In that case we never even wanted him in the first place![]()
Unfortunately it is not correct. Might be close if you add in revenue sharing and the Vegas money that is still going through NIL GO. But even with all of that it’s closer to $8MM than $9MM in player compensation. Not NIL.$9M on NIL.
Interesting, given discussions about this topic last week.
Hopkins in Syracuse this weekend.
I’ve heard the roster is around 8ish but I’ve also heard it ranks quite competitively in the ACC.Unfortunately it is not correct. And even with that we were no better than ninth or tenth in the ACC.
Fran was a sub coordinator essentially at Georgia. I’d take whatever Mike learned over what we saw in Fran as a tactician.See .. I don't think he's very much like Fran Brown at all. Fran was actively coaching at a perennial national championship contender.
Mike Hopkins has been out of collegiate coaching for several years, after being fired from his last job.
The analogy is a stretch.
It really becomes a chicken or egg thing though. Yes there are programs doing well with out top level NIL budgets but not in P4/5 conferences. Look at the ACC standings. There is a very strong correlation between NIL budgets and placement. A prospective coach understands that and it will be a primary consideration in his decision to pursue the job.Of course.
Build it, and they will come (fans, attendance, public enthusiasm, NIL donations, etc.).
Completely agree.
NC State and Miami definitely. Clemson and SMU ahead of Syracuse but same neighborhood.I’ve heard the roster is around 8ish but I’ve also heard it ranks quite competitively in the ACC.
I can’t see nine or ten programs spent more in the ACC. There are a few yes. But when UConn is spending 12, who in the ACC is approaching that level?
There’s Duke, North Carolina, Louisville…UVA could be around the same. Along with a few others. But more?
You can't sell the fanbase on being a serious program if you hire Hopkins. He failed at Washington and didn't even get another HC job in college even at a lower level.I think a lot of the comments in here reinforce why we need to go outside the JB and SU tree. Get some optimism and hope back. Too much negativity in Syracuse on a good day.
I would rather have just Murray as a HC. I don’t care if my football HC is a great tactician. I care that he has great coordinators underneath him. In the case of Fran, Nixon had one decent season and one bad season. I’m worrried about his ability to adjust the offense to personnel. ERob was not a great choice and hopefully our new DC is better.Fran was a sub coordinator essentially at Georgia. I’d take whatever Mike learned over what we saw in Fran as a tactician.
How about Luke Murray hc and Hopkins as the asst? If the school has money why wouldn’t they bring Hopkins back where his wife is from?
Feel like from the tea leaves is that he wants to be back
I will go and ask the Prince, BRBHow about my question? If the Saudi Prince said hire Hopkins and I will give 25 million for NIL.
Well, now what am I supposed to tell the Prince. Ugh...egg on my face.Okay, it was a joke guys. Just the thought that money and that is what Hop is really banking on, makes a play in things like this.
We're a clear 7-8ish. I went down the rabbit hole on this a few weeks ago.I’ve heard the roster is around 8ish but I’ve also heard it ranks quite competitively in the ACC.

Not good enough for Washington, but good enough for Syracuse. Maybe that is a reality I need to accept. If Hopkins gets this job it’s the definition of insanity. Murray without Hop, ok if we can’t get BH. Outside the boeheim tree is the move.Fran was a sub coordinator essentially at Georgia. I’d take whatever Mike learned over what we saw in Fran as a tactician.

Same, across the board.I’ve heard the roster is around 8ish but I’ve also heard it ranks quite competitively in the ACC.

Nicely stated. Can we not equate NIL in the future with this year. The players were there this season. Not the reason we stunk.
And this is why I prefer a tactician over a fundraiser who has poor basketball acumen. We are never outraising Duke, UNC, or Louisville. However we can get good players and have better coaching.
It's pretty close. And a lot closer than the 5 million number that was being thrown around a few weeks ago, to rationalize why we might need to go "cheap" with the head coach hire.Unfortunately it is not correct. i believe that's with the revenue share. might be what you meant though.I’ve heard the roster is around 8ish but I’ve also heard it ranks quite competitively in the ACC.
