Coach Search Options after Autry

It's because the folks on the Board, and influential donors, don't have the slightest clue about offensive systems, defensive systems, S&C, or program leadership writ large.

They know Hop and like Hop. And apparently a few, who haven't given $$$ previously, will do so for Hop.

I mean, that's nice and all. But we're going to perpetually struggle with player compensation. I have zero doubt, none whatsoever, that we'll be hearing all about the financial limitations of our program, within months of (potentially) hiring Hop. We'll never, ever, have top tier $$$.

Due to that, we should consider hiring someone who can coach his way out of a wet paper bag. Hop has shown no indication he can do that. We have 7 years of evidence.

But whatever, I'm not worrying about any of it. More and more I'm convinced the glory days of SU hoops are gone forever. That's the subtext of every insider post.

Great post, Scooch.

The fact that Lyke is already on staff and in a pole position for the AD job is telling.

This isn't about nostalgia change... It's about incompetence. She has no business being on the AD staff, let alone in contention for the AD gig.

If she gets the AD gig and such a BAD decision can be made, MORE bad decisions can certainly be made and likely will be made. Her horrible track record at pitt is a CV of mismanagement horrors. That's not nostalgia-fear-of-change, it's just total incompetence.
Chris Carlson has an e-mail address right? If he has a spine he'll write something up to get this crap out into the public sphere.

I've never worked in academia, but I've done a few projects over my career with academia. That is, by farrrrr, the slowest moving sector I've ever encountered. I've had academics take a full year to do things that a couple of junior-level analysts could have banged out in a week, tops.

I'm not in any way surprised that the hiring process will take an eternity. These people move at the pace of glaciers.
Scooch said it best. They move slowly, there's consensus building and countless other committees and things that slow down the process.

I’m honestly just hopeful all the power brokers in the room deciding on the future of SU Athletics understand that making a top down comfortable change playing politics that would keep things in the Cuse family, and doing so again where the community and higher volume of support from fans and alums wants something else is high risk.

Thus such a decision could push us into a reality as bad as football faced for an extended period of time and all but destroy the capital that’s left with the SU BB brand.

Where were these friends when the contract to replace JB with Hop got ripped up? They like Hop because he's a great guy and their best bet to retain access, not because of his qualifications.

Nail meet head. Faith is gone and a decision that fails to show commitment to real change won’t resonate and will kill off any excitement before it starts. Just hope they are ok with the reality then Dome will be a pathetic 2/3 empty site to show just how much such a decision would turn people off even more than they already were.

I like Bryan Hodgson.
Born and raised in Western New York.
Was Nate Oats assistant at Buffalo and Alabama.
Was lead recruiter for Alabama and brought in some great recruits.
Now he is HC at Arkansas State. Has them turned around after being awful. They beat Memphis this season.
Arkansas State is 18-11 with a 9-7 conference record and is currently tied for sixth in the Sun Belt.

I’m not so sure Hop would turn off the fanbase. SU has a LOT of casual fans who I suspect would like that hire.

Hop basically ripped it up by leaving. If Hop would have stayed, the turmoil would have made this look like a day at the beach. But he left and saved us the spectacle of Jim being forced out by Mike.

...and / or the agreement being in place being blatantly disregarded by JB to Hop's detriment.

Mike took one for the team, for sure.
