There was a window for Hop to be successful at Cuse.

A DECADE AGO.

But JAB overstayed his welcome, and Hop didn’t want to be the guy who forced his mentor to retire when he clearly did not want to.

Here we are a decade later, but Hop is no longer the answer, nor is any other guy who:
- happens to be a coach currently AND
- happened to have been a guard at Cuse under JAB.

There is NO sane universe where that 2nd criteria carries any weight in making the best possible HC hire.

And yet…. here we are.
Again.

You do NOT make a “continuity hire” when the ongoing trajectory has been that of a train going over a cliff.

nephew. J is the coach at Oswego St and has been there quite awhile and been quite succesful. Surprised he hasn't jumped up a level at this point. Great coach, Great guy as well.

While I appreciate your pov, and actually agree with most of it, saying we can’t determine if their decisions are right or wrong seems shaky considering their decision to hire Autry. Past behavior frequently is a guide to future behavior.

Unless there is learning from mistakes which could be operational here. We won’t know until hires are made and the new HC has a season or 2 to operate his plan!

Maybe (hopefully) I’m wrong, but I get the feeling that the BOT is considering Hop more because they feel he was screwed over when the original JB retirement changed than because they truly believe he is the guy to rectify our current situation.

I guess we can add survivor guilt to the list of possible reasons a coach gets interviewed.

Jason Hart was the head coach of the G League Ignite in 2023-24 and led them to an impressive 2-32 record (Yes 2-32). They were 31 out 31 in points per game on offense so dead last and they were 25th out of 31 in points per game for defense. Dead last in Off RTG and second to last in Def RTG and again dead last in Net RTG with an impressive -15.7. And he has never been a college head coach...

If that doesn't scream qualified, I don't know what does...I am sure he isn't on the list because he played at Syracuse.

I absolutely do not want him to be our coach, but this is a bit unfair. That program wasn't really meant to compete in the G-League; it was really just to prepare prospects for the draft. Think you can argue it failed at that too though (though they did get a handful of guys drafted and some drafted highly).

I’m probably one of the younger people on this board, but I actually just had him as my professor for a class at SUNY Oswego lol. He’s a great guy, very knowledgeable about what he does, and just got his 300th win at Oswego as HC, so no doubt he can coach and is a winner!

I never even said anything about people saying they’d specifically “want gmac or hopkins”, I said people that rationalize it, which there is plentiful.
Anyways, If you are genuinely saying you haven’t seen people saying they’d be okay, and support it I really don’t know how honest this conversation can be. It took me longer to crop these pictures than it did to find find multiple examples(3 minutes btw).some of which you were engaged with. There’s a poll asking if we’d be okay with hopkins as HC and 40+ voted yes. So by every definition possible, “they’re on this board”. We have had multiple people in this thread say it.
