Coach Search Options after Autry

Throwing out another what if on the mountain of what ifs.

Do you forget about the X’s and O’s and the past if the next HC brings in a top of the league Guard?

I’m talking a mccord like year one.

A Point or combo guard to run the show and hands down no questions asked be the best player on the court 95% of the time. A dude that gives the fanbase feels of the guards we used to have. Maybe that’s costs big time but if the new HC can snag that type of player I wonder.

It’s a short term thing but buys a lot of credibility with the fairweather fanbase if it works year 1.

I find myself thinking about what it would take to live with some of the names being floated.

I know 2 things that they developed with Zion- his appetite for food and his love affair for Orleans women

That was before Hop even got there! Do we have faith in Hop actually playing a role in that development? 🤣

sadly a lot of folks on the BoT are not clued into the day to day of athletics and what it takes to win. You have a lot of older folks who dont understand how much things have changed, too.
I don’t think a lot of die-hard fans grasp this. It’s a very unfortunate system in today’s version of collegiate athletics.

Un-informed BoT bullies their desired candidate into contention.

AD’s hand is forced to make the hire despite knowing better because if not they lose the money they need to even have a chance to be successful.

Probably the most damaging part of the newfound collegiate athletics system.

Hire the right person for the job. That being said, I don’t like the optics of the school brushing aside long term stakeholders,
Including supporters, donors, and former players who support one candidate for the whims of a new donor who (as i understand it) has never donated a dollar to basketball. Makes the school look like a common prostitute.

Make the school “look like a common prostitute” / win basketball games > Back uninformed donors / lose basketball games

Sorry, just trying to follow along here... so...

1. Lally backs Hodg

2. Melo and a new big-pockets donor to be named later (and who hasn't donated to basketball before) is backing Hop (possible Saudi prince alum??)

Is that the jist?

No. You go in with the assumption it is a 20-year decision, not a 1 year decision.
Does a big year 1 set up that long term success though? We’ve seen what happens when year 1 looks really bad at a lot of places. Takes a while to erase that stink.if ever.

Idk anything. But it seems like a theme from the postings here if you read between the lines. Old money interests vs a whale donor or donors who want a reset. It definitely communicates something if you turn your back on your long term stakeholders. Idk anything. Just making sense of the info here and musing.

Red's 1st year was decent (by his standards). So were Hop's first two. No long-term success.

So the strange thing is if Hopkins has big money backing him, and Hodgson has Lally, which is big money backing him. With that sort of basic knowledge, realistically, it will be a very big challenge for any other candidate to come close to getting the job as I am sure there will be a lot of take my ball and going home type behavior after the decision.

DONOR FIIIIIIGHHHHHHHT !!!!

There is a limit to that though, right? If my Saudi Prince said I will give 100 million to your Nil but I want 70 year old dasher coaching the team? The BOT would have to say no. Money is the life blood but you still need a proven coach.
Don’t sell yourself short, Dasher! This 69 year old PF would run through a wall for you!

Asking what might be an ignorant naive question, but why would donor dollars follow any coach from one school to the next? I donate my dollars to the school I love (and my kids school too), regardless of who the coach is. Maybe I don't donate if I don't like the coach. Maybe I do.

But in any case if a coach left that I liked, my money is not going to him/her to a different school.
Help me understand the logic that I would all of sudden donate to BC or St. Johns or whoever? Or, do I simply not have enough money to play in this influence the coach game?
