Well, think about someone who is the opposite of you. Maybe they donate to the coach regardless of where they coach?

Other than personal friends and family, why would they? What tie do they have to the coach. May they want access to the coach for some reason as a corporate or personal sponsor?

Red's 1st year was decent (by his standards). So were Hop's first two. No long-term success.

It was a hard year to.judge, yes they won 20 games, but they got blown out by too many good teams, and weren't even close to the bubble.

He would need an offensive coordinator. That’s the only way this is even passable. Makes Reds system look like peak 2010’s Warriors with how bad his offense's were.

I love Hop btw. But he needs a restart at a mid major and go kill it there and update what he’s doing on offense with a more modern offense, hopefully informed by his time in the NBA.

The guy is 56, I wouldn't be sure how much longer he plans on coaching. The downside with Schertz is that he's older for a non-P4 head coach. My preference would be for someone who wants to get their name on, oh, I don't know, what's left? The locker rooms? The benches?

Asking what might be an ignorant naive question, but why would donor dollars follow any coach from one school to the next? I donate my dollars to the school I love (and my kids school too), regardless of who the coach is. Maybe I don't donate if I don't like the coach. Maybe I do.

But in any case if a coach left that I liked, my money is not going to him/her to a different school.
Help me understand the logic that I would all of sudden donate to BC or St. Johns or whoever? Or, do I simply not have enough money to play in this influence the coach game?

I wonder if somebody like Chris Mack could also be a sneaky option. Success at Xavier, had an okay stint at Louisville before getting canned, and is having some good success at Charleston. Maybe he’s still tied with some UofL donors?

Hodgson’s back story (upbringing etc), the offensive pace/intensity they play, that super funky - sticky zone he showed the other night (which actually impressed me more than his offense), and his kinda sorta cocky attitude, all combined reminds a lot of Tarkanian in his heyday.

Hodgson or any outsider that didn't play or coach at Syracuse (Hodgson is a fan and worked camps here though) biggest obstacle for success at Syracuse would be the exclusionary attitude they may meet day 1 from those with influence, could be basketball alumni, administrators, or donors who can't let go of this concept of an outsider running the men's basketball program. I wished this keep it in the family thing worked, it didn't. They aren't even close enough from a success standpoint to make emotional decisions on these matters anymore. The other time you can make the emotional decisions is when you hit rock bottom, there is no risk at that point. We aren't close to rock bottom, just a bit below average since the pandemic. Hodgson is obviously the front runner outsider, so he is taking a lot of punches and critiques. Don't underestimate that these punches and critiques could be out of implicit bias. It is very clear he is the best guy for Syracuse. as well as the best guy that appears to be interested in Syracuse. The implicit bias could also be concern that he is the best guy and if he succeeds in the form of consistent tournament appearances, deep runs, and maybe a national championship. That window for a Boeheim protege at Syracuse could be closed forever. It's possible GMAC or another Syracuse basketball alumni is a head coach at Syracuse Men's Basketball someday, but they can't make this decision now based on leaving that door open.
