Ask Georgetown fans how they're feeling about the job Cooley has done with a $10m+ roster this year.
Cooley, huh? Wonder if he was interviewed for any other jobs besides Georgetown when he left Providence three years ago?

So has anyone reported that Melo’s support would be contingent on Hop being the coach? His primary motivation has always been what is best for Syracuse and that is compounded by what is now best for his son. I have very little doubt that he will be part of the selection process once the decision to not retain Red is formalized and that, unless he has major issues with the successor, he will support the program with all the resources he can muster.
I don't know about that. His support was very modest this year

Yup. And the basketball alums and family have had their way for the last decade plus. JAB avoided any fallout from the NCAA infractions, got to play family ball, coach well past his prime and get one of his assistants the head coaching job. Then after two lackluster seasons, they all got together and said, wait, wait, no, we'll fix it. So they gave Red a bunch of money and the team still failed to meet expectations. So, in light of the last decade of decisions that they've campaigned for, their next bright idea is yet another family coach and giving him lots of money.

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. At some point, things need to be decided on merits. And the basketball alumni JAB circle of trust hasn't exactly crowned themselves in glory. Here or elsewhere. So, they are entitled to their opinion, but based on results, their opinion should be valued about as well as mine.

What a sensational post.

And agreed -- doing the same exact thing and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.

THESE guys had the worst record over any 4 year period under jb.. THEY STINK
One averaged 19.2 ppg and has played in the NBA. The other averaged 13.7 ppg and 6.3 rpg.

Not sure they were the biggest problems

Why do people keep saying that Melo will abandon the program after two years if Kiyan leaves? Melo donated $3 million 20 years ago before his son was even born. Talk about playing the long game.
I don’t think they’re saying he’ll abandon the program. But they doubt he’ll continue to support it at thelevel currently being mentioned. After all, in those 20 years his support has been far more modest.

Mods, please don’t ban me for this (since one person hilariously asked for me to be banned already) BUT:

If we hire Hop, do we also get JB as part of the package???? Are we really getting two coaches for the price of one + $30M????

Sorry couldn’t resist. Relax people. It’s college basketball and the internet. Have some fun!
Make some sense.

Yeah you need to be banned immediately

The Office I Give Up GIF

If Hopkins gets the support that's being mentioned in this thread and it keeps going up. I give up, this is some unprecedented stuff. Like
John Cena Omg GIF

Have personal backup plans in mind in case this fails and you want a new team to follow or new hobbies. Enjoy the ride in the meantime I guess lol.
This is all I could think of when you said back up plans.

Wish there was a way to gather a petition quickly and get it to the search committee with a very scathing letter around fan support falling apart should they choose Lykes/Hop. It would need a well known influential face behind it which is the problem…
It would just be a waste of paper and ink.

Sign me up for Hop, if for no other reason than the subsequent meltdown here. If he came with an eight figure NIL budget annually, even better. I have to think it would at least be a little fun to watch the man cook.

Didn’t realize Eddie dry rub was looking for kitchen staff…

I just hope people come to their senses before it is too late.
It sounds like a donor bidding war, whoever has the most resources wins. With the Melo camp figure for Hopkins for as far as I’m concerned would sky rocket Syracuse to the top 5 nationally, perhaps even number 1 for the immediate future when it comes to roster spending.

Door 1 - More money bad/failed coach
Door 2 - Less money up and coming coach

Door 2 100 times out of 100 for Syracuse
Door 1 100 times out of 100 for Melo and his son

Well, I think we would all agree that the talent level he has is not even in the same stratosphere as SU.
Doty could succeed at SU, but that is about it.
I think most who have actually watched GMAC coach this year would agree that he seems to have the goods to be a good coach. He makes in game changes, his teams play hard and fight and his team actually seems to have an identity. Watch his press conferences - he actually sounds like a head coach.
I also think if you make Red the head coach at Siena there is no way Siena would be sniffing 20 wins, be second in their conference only two years removed from having 4 wins and finishing last in their conference.
Exactly right!

I trust Melo and JB in that I believe they have the best interest of the program at heart. I don’t trust other big donors with no connection to basketball inserting themselves into basketball affairs for the first time. If the administration opts to go with Hopper, backed by a large coalition of donors and stakeholders, then let’s ride!!!!’ Hop 2027!!!!!

The way JB handled himself the last 10 years….. he knows what’s best, for sure.
