Coach Search Options after Autry

So the best I can discern is that we have a real mess on our hands.

Behind the scenes, there are power struggles taking place for all three positions currently open. Chancellor, AD and MBB.

There seem to be competing factions at each position, and there seems to be a clear direction for what I would say is “Team Lally”…which appears to be involved in all three.

Their slate of candidates appear to be:
Chancellor Haynie
AD Lyke
Coach Hodgson
(The last two for sure, not sure about Haynie)

They are opposed on Lyke by some very influential FB supporters.

And they are opposed on Hodgson by Team Melo.(Hop)
Melo will not be outspent here.

I don’t know how this is all going to fall out, but I think Haynie is going to be a winner here.

The AD situation is too close to call.

As is the MBB coach.

The overarching picture here is the Lally’s attempt to consolidate control. I don’t think they’re going to stop until the school is renamed Lally University @ Syracuse.

Let’s just say their name above Melo’s on the basketball facility has been “duly noted”.

I think a Hop - Lyke result would be somewhat of a potential compromise.

As Dash has noted, I don’t see anyway the Lally’s support Hop, nor Melo supports Hodgson.

Wow what a mess thanks for sharing as always. When things go down like this it’s always worrisome that garbage in/garbage out applies and the lack of cohesion only will further torment us a fans as tension persists and the major programs suffer as a result even with loads of money.

Seems to me Lallys want people in there they can control. They can’t tell me they are serious about sports and hire lykes.

Thats my read as well, be the AD basically without being the “AD” . Lyke is a puppet

If this is the situation what is the problem with Lyke? I don’t know, so just asking. I mean I’d rather have a coach who can coach hoop than a great AD. The AD only needs to take care of football, MBB, and mlax. Whatever else happens, who cares. Sorry if i offend others in other sports but those are the ones people care about.

Problem is she reportedly could not fund raise any upgrades she started and also built a $240 million dollar volleyball facility. Also believe more in giving all sports more funding than the bigger 2. (Football and men’s basketball)

This stuff can't be happening at a worse time too. Conference expansion or whatever the heck it's going to look like isn't going away. Hiring a disaster AD to potentially run everything into the ground isn't a good look. BB could remain a disaster for another decade and nobody has any real idea what direction the FB program is headed.

You might be missing the big picture here. Our next A.D. and JW was perfect for this, is going to be important in the next round of realignment. I don't think Lyke can help us one bit.

Jake, can you or someone else explain why Lally would be so pro-Lyke. But then you are saying some influential FB supporters oppose Lyke. I thought Lally would be considered an influential FB supporter. Is there a riff somewhere?

I thing people would settle for Lyke if, and a big IF, Hodgson is hired as MBBHC.

Again, not focusing on any question at all. Simply making the point that there is no empirical evidence that Hodgson would be the can’t miss, sure fire thing some are portraying him to be. If he gets the gig I certainly hope he is, but until then I am willing to accept the possibility that there may be other qualified candidates.

There are far more supporters of SU football than just the Lally’s. Lallys aren’t paying the NIL bill.

I agree as I have serious concerns what happens to our FB program with Lykes in control. I think the Lally support is short sighted.
