Incredible theater. I truly think the decisions made in the next two months will have an enormous impact on the long-term future of the entire Athletic Department and sport situation at Cuse. And we're actually entertaining a retread bball HC that has about the same winning percentage that Mike Young has at Virginia Tech... not excited yet? Can I interest you in a AD hire that ran a peer athletic program into the ground in the recent past and is widely held as a terrible hire by any outside eye?! STILL NOT EXCITED?! How about me as Chancellor?!

I wanted to catch up on this thread before commenting, but at this rate that'd be after the next Orange and White game...

The thought of Hopkins learning something in the NBA is intriguing, but I think Cuse would have to be crazy to roll those dice. I'm not saying that I'd be done with Cuse BB if Hopkins gets it, but it'd certainly be a rough off season+, to say the least. If we the bed on everybody else, I could see giving him.a 2 year contract or something to kick the can down the road until some more targets open up again, but I know that'll never happen.

As far as Melo wants "his friend" to coach his son, I think it's more likely that he's trying to relive his NCAA glory days (especially since he wanted more years in college) and give his son the exact same experience that he had. But he needs to realize that Hopkins providing that is a looong shot.

All that said, I'd be super happy if Hopkins ends up at BC. Career suicide and all that, but Hopkin's career is already a zombie and it'd be fun to see him coach semi regularly.

Sorry need to edit -- Mike Young widely held as John Wooden 2.0 has a higher winning percentage total AND in conference play than Hopkins does... Mike Young.

I’d be happy with Haynie as chancellor, but you absolutely cannot have Lyke as AD and Hop as HC

This is true, Hop as HC is something I'm willing to explore even if dont like it, Lyke means that we arnt getting in by 2030(we probably arnt no matter who it is at AD,.but that's neither here nor there) and that's not something I want to think about.

Look at BYU. They probably have one of the most expensive rosters in the country this season, and they’ve been top 25 good but not top 10 good. And the top end money is unsustainable in the long rurun.
Unless you're the mormon church, apparently 🤣

I made it to the end of the thread!! Whew. Now I'm gonna go binge all four seasons of Ozark

I, too, wonder why the "compromise" Jake floated in his big post that was like 15 pages back now, couldn't be the other way around, with BH as coach, and someone other than HL as AD

Still read every post!😂

Man, there is SO MUCH to process, engaging in the next great American novel in real time is fascinating. I have a growing, genuine dread that the school I love may actually destroy itself with these decisions. If Hopkins is Coach, even with unlimited resources, we still have an automatic cap/low ceiling. We will not compete for championships because of it, it just can’t be.
Hodgson at least injects hope, energy, modern tactics & what COULD BE. It feels as if he was was properly resourced we might just be back in the conversation. Why not jump on that?!

Hiring Lyke is simultaneously infuriating & mind-numbing… especially for the reasons listed. NO!

In the meantime, why not have:

Haynie - Chancellor
Hopkins - AD
Hodgson - Coach

THAT’S a compromise I’d get behind over Lyke & Hopkins version

It would also seem to have us at 60 Million in NIL lined up😉😂

Just want it on the record that I was part of both the Mullen & Red threads for posterity’s sake! Nothing else to contribute, just hoping for the best when the smoke clears. Thanks insiders for the insight. Always an Orange fan regardless…

I went to watch Nevada basketball play New Mexico last night. A couple of observations: For the past five years Nevada has been either in the tournament or on the bubble. They get the most out of their players, they don’t have four and five star recruits. They beat New Mexico last night by playing relentless defense, and going after every rebound. They probably out rebounded New Mexico by 10. I didn’t look at the stats, but I think they are rebounded Utah State also by 10 the other day. When I watch the timeouts, Steve Alfred kind of walks over to the referees and he talks to the referees and the assistant coach Craig Neil, who used to be a coach at New Mexico and took them to the NCAA tournament and finished a season ranked 17th frequently runs the huddle. He’s frequently standing, yelling directions, all the assistants are up, shouting out directions. They play hard, and the players play good solid aggressive defense. Great ball movement.

The coaching staff at Syracuse is HOT GARBAGE. If Syracuse had the same players that they have right now, and Nevadas coaching staff…they win a lot of games. One more thing, I was telling my friend that the shooting guard on Syracuse shoots 50% from the free-throw line, he looked at me like I was crazy…. and it is crazy. How do you have a shooting guard on a power five team that cannot shoot a free throw? Unbelievable.
