$30M NIL does not guarantee success but the team with the better players tends to win if you ask the HoF’er.
I would triple his salary to make sure he sticks around. As you've noted, this is serious, beyond just having a new AD. It's about keeping SU relevant and at the table. This ^, I can't stress enough how much of a potential disaster Lyke would be as the new AD. If the new chancellor has any sort of a clue his first act is to get JW to change his mind on retirement, I don't care if you have to double his salary, Lyke is not the answer.
Call me skeptical. Sure there’s probably a lot of talk and people saying they’re gonna donate big, but is any of it contractual? No one’s going to be transparent publically about this.
I’m not sure, it was posted in this thread pages before thisDid he say no, or was he not aware of it?
yes It would seem so.Why would the $30 mil be only for Hop. If it is someone else, the $30 mil goes away???
And what else can they say if they can't match the 30 million. Now, they may be right. But probably not. But if you were being outbid, what would you say?The Lallys said that $30M+ report was false, no? Not to discredit any of our insiders here, just thought I’d point that out
I understand but there must be someone better. If Hop is the guy, AND i AM NOT SAYING HE IS, he needs ass't coaches that are wiz's on the court. a D guy. A O guy. A bench coach to help him. With the money, we don't need recruiters. The money will sell itself. The only two alum who I think would make good staff members are Devendorf and Triche. Devo has the edge to his game and personality that the program is lacking.
Brandon seems to be building a really good second career training local players and improving their skills. He's another crafty guard and smart player who I think would be an asset to the program.
I have been saying this since this kerfuffle started. We have the needed monetary resources necessary to hire a quality coach, pay his assistants well and cover our NIL needs; IMO, what we need is to come together and support the program and what’s best for Syracuse Basketball; who’s on board with this notion?

I just meant in some role on staff, not even assistants right. I agree with you. Syracuse has not maximized the amount of staffers compared to other schools so those two seemed like a good way to connect things.I understand but there must be someone better. you hope the fans return then start raking in the money again. its a pretty easy sell to kids, come to su largest on campus crowd cheering you on and we have the money to support you.If the money weren't a factor, I would definitely prefer Hodgson. I am not pro-Hop by any means, but if I were arguing the Pro-Hop side, I would say:
Winning conference coach of the year his first two seasons at Washington is pretty impressive, particularly winning it in a year where he failed to even reach the tournament.
He was always a good recruiter in the past and had some big recruiting wins at Washington as well. Maybe he's lost his touch but I think you could convince yourself that he'd still be a good recruiter for us.
Maybe most importantly, he's had time post-Washington to reflect on what went wrong, time on NBA benches to broaden his philosophies and hopefully evolve from the coach that he was his first time as head coach.
That last point (as well as the financial backing that Bulldog referred to) are the two big keys to whether or not he can succeed if he becomes our next coach. I think you'd have to be out of your mind to not be skeptical, but that kind of financial backing can cover up a lot of mistakes (at least in the short term) and potentially give us the kickstart we need to return to relevance.
Obviously follow up question is: "So we invest a ton the first couple years and let's assume it goes pretty well...what happens after that?"
Nothing is guaranteed. Y$30M NIL does not guarantee success but the team with the better players tends to win if you ask the HoF’er.
Nothing is a sure thing. Injuries happen, players quit, teams don’t mesh. Kentucky under Cal$30M NIL does not guarantee success but the team with the better players tends to win if you ask the HoF’er.
they have a pr company behind them, also if they aren't involved how do they know it doesn't exist. don't believe everything you read, the money is there. Why would the $30 mil be only for Hop. If it is someone else, the $30 mil goes away???
I have been saying this since this kerfuffle started.
He said nothing mentioned to BOT or the athletics committee and that nobody from athletics is currently aware of thisDid he say no, or was he not aware of it?
Well, all the smoke is indicating their are going to screw it up, and royally.
a month or two of being on the staff of the Olympic team with fully developed superstars is hardly any proof of his coaching abilities.Do you all remember that Hopkins was on the Olympic staff in Rio and I think in London too. I remember seeing some video of him working with James HArden. He knows how to coach players and advance skills. If Melo is putting together a warchest with NBA money, it is probably coming from some guys who became better players with his coaching.
I am not saying he is head coach material..it is hard to look past his last few years in Washington. But if Hopkins was coaching this years team, Donnie would be better, Kiyan would be better, our point gaurd would have grown instead of regressing. If they brought the fire and determination that hopkins had as a player this years team would be tournament bound.
Made the big time
This is what I was hoping to hear. I’m just an outsider, but you get the sense that Tirico is so well liked and respected. I believe he suggested or helped to facilitate recruiting Wildhack for the AD job in the first place.I believe he is on both the Chancellor and AD search committees. He is the Vice Chair of the voting BoT. He is kind of a big deal in all of this.
