I have been saying this since this kerfuffle started.
This is a microcosm of the CNY business environment. We don’t lack talent. We don’t lack resources. We lack collaboration.
I have been saying this since this kerfuffle started.
He said nothing mentioned to BOT or the athletics committee and that nobody from athletics is currently aware of thisDid he say no, or was he not aware of it?
Well, all the smoke is indicating their are going to screw it up, and royally.
a month or two of being on the staff of the Olympic team with fully developed superstars is hardly any proof of his coaching abilities.Do you all remember that Hopkins was on the Olympic staff in Rio and I think in London too. I remember seeing some video of him working with James HArden. He knows how to coach players and advance skills. If Melo is putting together a warchest with NBA money, it is probably coming from some guys who became better players with his coaching.
I am not saying he is head coach material..it is hard to look past his last few years in Washington. But if Hopkins was coaching this years team, Donnie would be better, Kiyan would be better, our point gaurd would have grown instead of regressing. If they brought the fire and determination that hopkins had as a player this years team would be tournament bound.
Made the big time
This is what I was hoping to hear. I’m just an outsider, but you get the sense that Tirico is so well liked and respected. I believe he suggested or helped to facilitate recruiting Wildhack for the AD job in the first place.I believe he is on both the Chancellor and AD search committees. He is the Vice Chair of the voting BoT. He is kind of a big deal in all of this.
seems like they are a bit defensive. He said nothing mentioned to BOT or the athletics committee and that nobody from athletics is currently aware of this

I like both of them. They are great guys, hard workers, would help instill intensity, and work well one on one with players honing their skills, but neither are good hires for Hop. They are not going to innovate new offensive concepts for Hop.The only two alum who I think would make good staff members are Devendorf and Triche. Devo has the edge to his game and personality that the program is lacking.
Brandon seems to be building a really good second career training local players and improving their skills. He's another crafty guard and smart player who I think would be an asset to the program.
If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.if Hopkins was coaching this years team, Donnie would be better, Kiyan would be better, our point gaurd would have grown instead of regressing. If they brought the fire and determination that hopkins had as a player this years team would be tournament bound.
Yeah, but you’re looking for the strongest evidence of who’s most likely to succeed and who has the proven success. Which would demonstrably not be Hop, based on his track record. That’s why we all want Schertz, who has a proven track record of winning and then moving up to the next level and then winning and moving up. And he has proven systems that he knows how to teach. Hodgson is kind of the perfect plan B. He helped Oats build Buffalo into a mid-major power and then did the same at Alabama, with a fast-paced modern offensive system that emphasizes 3-point shooting and at-the-rim shots over low value mid-range shots. It’s a player-friendly systen. He’s known as an aggressive and successful recruiter (aka The Shark) who has a proven ability to develop guys for the NBA. He’s now shown that he can win at two different program levels and seems poised to make the next jump and succeed at the p5 level. His track record is much shorter than Schertz’s but seems to be headed for big things. We should get him while we can.Again, not focusing on any question at all. Simply making the point that there is no empirical evidence that Hodgson would be the can’t miss, sure fire thing some are portraying him to be. If he gets the gig I certainly hope he is, but until then I am willing to accept the possibility that there may be other qualified candidates.
If the Melo crew really wanted to help out SU as much as possible, $30 million in NIL money could likely even get SU a good P5 coach.Yeah, but you’re looking for the strongest evidence of who’s most likely to succeed and who has the proven success. There aren’t many other candidates out there who we could land that have such high upside. Jerrod Calhoun and Eric Olen would be on that list, and you could throw in a less sexy name (who’s a proven winner) in Kyle Smith, but he’s already at a P5 level. Most successful P5 coaches aren’t leaving their jobs to come here, but maybe maybe Smith or a guy looking for a change of scenery would consider it.
Who are you thinking that should also be in the candidate pool? Can you name some possibilities? Steele, Skinn and Siddle could be possible fallback options.
If you want the guy who has proven success, hands down it's Chris Mack. He's been to nine NCAA tournaments. One Elite Eight and three Sweet Sixteens and overall NCAAT record of 11-9. I'm surprised more people haven't been on his bandwagon.Yeah, but you’re looking for the strongest evidence of who’s most likely to succeed and who has the proven success. Interesting.
It can be done before the season ends.
Hop had zero vision for offense when he was at Washington, and he also stubbornly stuck with mostly zone. I don’t know what to say here. He’s a dynamic and charismatic personality but he’s proven that he’s not an innovator or even towards the leading edge on modern college basketball systems. I get that he could have learned a thing or two in the NBA but I tend to think not. The game is different on that level b/c of the talent, and an old dog rarely learns new tricks. Hodge or Schertz would be perfect.
Didn’t I see a list of ACC coaches and I don’t remember anyone even Duke over 3 million a year? Let’s not get crazy. You could have John Wooden, coach K, pick a name but to be successful, you need $$$$, a great coach, a great recruiter, and knowledge of the portal, and some luck. To win consistently you need it all.If the Melo crew really wanted to help out SU as much as possible, $30 million in NIL money could likely even get SU a good P5 coach.
I’d be all in on Chris Mack over Bryan the Shark Hodgson— or as some fans call him, The Guppy (trademark pending). If you want the guy who has proven success, hands down it's Chris Mack. Anyone who’s disliking Eric devendorf being on staff should be ashamed of themselves. Guy knows ball, flat out. He always says the right thing.I will find out more on who he is looking at for coaches but I know one name for sure that he’s been talking to to join the coaching staff - our favorite trash talking #23 Eric Devendorf
