You must know what "all the boxes" are to say this with certainty.

And, before you fire the BoT, the HC will be selected by the search committee and new AD, approved by the Chancellor, and sent to the voting BoT for fiscal approval.
He's from NY, grew up a syracuse fan, wants to be here. Great coach with a system that works, good recruiter, good fundraiser for nil money. The only box he hasn't checked yet is ncaa tournament success, which could happen this year. Not like any of the other candidates have had tournament sucess.

You don't need to sell me on Hodgson. I was talking about all the boxes the university might think are important.

If it's Hop I guess their motive is to save money, not hire even close to the best coach available.

I don't think their motives would be to save money by hiring Hopkins. What it would signal to me is that the decision makers to me have an outdated way of thinking and don't have a clue on what it takes to win at this level.

We could be Utica.
Or CCNY. To quote Iron Mike. We could fade into Bolivian.

This was posted on Facebook. A sharp reminder that being a head coach or assistant coach is one of the toughest job in the world. But it's even harder for the coach's wife and family. Red's been lucky that he hasn't had to uproot his family very often.

It won't be because they cave in to any demands. They will look to see if the 30 million is for real. Among other things.
Do you really think, if Melo has access to anything near 30 Mil,that if we hired BH he would withhold it all? Wouldn’t that be tough on his kid? You’d think, from what I’ve heard, that Melo would want Kiyan to have the best roster possible.

I really think Kiyan could thrive under Hodgson as well. Much moreso than Hop, even if the iso ball has that comfortable familiarity.

I think he would have to be really convinced. And I don't know this, but since Bh is a Lally sponsor, I think melo just might be a little chapped that his name is below theirs on his bg.

I think he’s the front runner but I’m not praising him as the 2nd coming. Hopkins is boring and washed up which is a disqualifier for me.

Hodgson is young and hungry which I will always give an edge to in the current landscape of college sports which is a dumpster fire.

Do I think all these metrics and stats and even the wins losses at midmajors mean that BH will be some hall of famer and take us to a sweet 16 any time soon. Thats a big no.

Guess my point is that I’m picking based on potential and who the better coach is between the options we have. I wish we could get better but that’s not where we’re at now.
Would you be unimpressed with Nate Oats? Because Hodgson was with him for his entire tenure at Buffalo and then Alabama and is very much in the same mold. And he’s a proven recruiter. He helped Oats build those programs and knows how to implement and teach the successful systems. I think he’s going to be a fantastic hire.

I can understand all that (and even sympathize somewhat) but I just can’t imagine a father not doing whatever he can to help his son.

Depends on what the help looks like. If he helps with finding $ to build the roster and first 5-6 players are a better fit than his son. And Kiyan sits more than he’d like…… if he helps with finding $ but wants some involvement in the BB program or access but especially with anything that helps his son specifically. What coach wants to deal with that. So the kind of help is important and I’m sure if he’s going to help find 30 mill he wants some privileges that Hop would potentially give him….. since he got him hired. But another coach isn’t going to be like, I don’t think so. I run this program.

At the same time, if we're upping our payroll, I picture Kiyan being portaled over and struggling to see the floor similar to this year so...I'm not seeing any conceivable way this is viable

Would you say the same about Nate Oats? Because Hodgson was with him for his entire tenure at Buffalo and then Alabama and is very much in the same mold. He helped Oats build those programs and knows how to implement and teach the successful systems. I think he’s going to be a fantastic hire.
College sports is littered with assistant coaches that should’ve been amazing given their pedigree then were terrible. At the same time som coaching trees have been known to just have that special sauce to always win.

I know BH is the better option than Hop or the in family hire I just am not saying he’s the greatest coach on earth like some here. No one ever really knows which is why I posted some of my comments today.

I can say for certain that there’s feeling within the basketball alums of ten plus years ago that the university doesn’t care about basketball like they used to. I’m not saying it’s true because I don’t necessarily think it is, but it’s a belief a few of our most winning players have. So while BH is the best candidate all of the alums love Hop and there’s not a lot of trust in the admin these days. Just something to think about regarding the coaching situation. The Lally family has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way on the basketball side.
