Coach Search Options after Autry

I think most on the board want our next head coach to not be a Boeheim disciple.
I want our next head coach to be someone who understands X’s and O’s, can inspire his team to play hard, can update his game plan throughout the game and after half time and can establish a never give up culture.
I could give a damn if he is a Boeheim disciple or not as long as he can give me the above.
As for GMAC, all I can say is they hired the wrong assistant 3 years ago.
Red has been a gigantic bust who has the uncanny ability to make his players regress as the season goes on. Last year was a losing season, this year may be as well.
He didn’t fail because he was a Boeheim disciple, he failed because he is a lousy coach with no ability to inspire or think creatively.
Gerry took over a team 2 years ago that won 4 games, this year they won 20 games and have a legit shot at making the NCAAT.
You may not want him as the next coach of Syracuse, but I think we can all agree he has done a remarkable job at Siena, especially considering what he had to work with and all the injuries.

I can say for certain that there’s feeling within the basketball alums of ten plus years ago that the university doesn’t care about basketball like they used to. I’m not saying it’s true because I don’t necessarily think it is, but it’s a belief a few of our most winning players have. So while BH is the best candidate all of the alums love Hop and there’s not a lot of trust in the admin these days. Just something to think about regarding the coaching situation. The Lally family has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way on the basketball side.
Lally played too much zone in the modern bball era, damn

Maybe the admin stopped caring but just look at the results on the court. Admin didn't coach the last 10+years. NIL portal stuff are very recent changes.

White already has a portal suitor.
My guess
North Carolina Basketball GIF by UNC Tar Heels

I don’t think their opinion is true. That said some on the BOT have gone out of their way to piss the bball alums off. That said they did get Autry to be the JB replacement. It’s time to go a completely different direction.

You know what we haven't considered. BH wins a couple of games in the tournament and suddenly
Ohio st wants him. Better job than ours. What then?
Yeah I think people are forgetting this guy is going to get offers that are extremely large. This isn’t a matter of the university just saying oh yeah he’s our guy this is easy and they just get him. There’s going to be a bidding war

That may be, but if they don't want to hire the best coach we can get because the "football donor" wants him, they're letting their emotions get the better of them... And hiring the guy you know and like who flopped already certainly isn't a rational justification for hire either.

At least with Hop there’s zero bidding war…..

But if we hire him we’ll probably still give him some ludicrous deal with a buyout that we can’t afford to fire him when he fails. Then when we raise the $ to fire him we’ll have nothing left to get a decent coach. Death spiral territory.

There is not a better year to be a “buyer” . Bidding war is nonsense talking

I was told that heading into this process, the university was not naive and expected that to be the case. Of course, that person was riding high and telling me to be confident following Mack's camp reaching out, and it sounds like things have gone sideways since then internally...

He also really wants the job and is from upstate. Not a hard sell.. It’s these types of posts that show me what the supposed reasoning for hiring Hopkins will be.

If we hire Hopkins it will be the worst hire in any sport I can remember and we will deserve all the negative press we get.

Norlander thinks we will be the top job available (or one of them), which means we should be able to afford him and land him. SU knows that they’re going to have to pay the going rate—and it will be absolutely worth it if Hodgson has great success because ticket sales and the revenue will skyrocket and his salary will pay for itself.
