Coach Search Options after Autry

Yeah I think people are forgetting this guy is going to get offers that are extremely large. This isn’t a matter of the university just saying oh yeah he’s our guy this is easy and they just get him. There’s going to be a bidding war

At least with Hop there’s zero bidding war…..

But if we hire him we’ll probably still give him some ludicrous deal with a buyout that we can’t afford to fire him when he fails. Then when we raise the $ to fire him we’ll have nothing left to get a decent coach. Death spiral territory.

There is not a better year to be a “buyer” . Bidding war is nonsense talking

I was told that heading into this process, the university was not naive and expected that to be the case. Of course, that person was riding high and telling me to be confident following Mack's camp reaching out, and it sounds like things have gone sideways since then internally...

He also really wants the job and is from upstate. Not a hard sell.. It’s these types of posts that show me what the supposed reasoning for hiring Hopkins will be.

If we hire Hopkins it will be the worst hire in any sport I can remember and we will deserve all the negative press we get.

Norlander thinks we will be the top job available (or one of them), which means we should be able to afford him and land him. SU knows that they’re going to have to pay the going rate—and it will be absolutely worth it if Hodgson has great success because ticket sales and the revenue will skyrocket and his salary will pay for itself.

So, you are making your judgment on people you don't know based on 150 pages on a internet message board. Got it. Well, I do know some people on the BOT. They love Syracuse as much as you do. They want to win as much as you do. Maybe more. Does that mean they don't make mistakes? Of course not. All of us make mistakes. But the decisions that are upcoming will be made because of what they think is the right choice. I am not overly confidant that they will do the right things on the two positions we are waiting on. I don't know. But I don't question that the decision will be because of who they think is the right person for the job rather than just some person they like.
Hop’s track record is bad. His offense was terrible, and his vision and schemes did not work, and he failed to adjust despite 7 years. You’d think getting roasted by the national media and other fanbases would alone make them run away from making this poor hiring decision.

Lots of P5 Competition (which is not great), but they are not the Tier 1 or Tier 2 of P5 schools either (which is good). We should be able to compete with this.

It's a rare scenario where it actually is a matter of the school just saying he's our guy. If the money is right, he’s getting on the first flight to Syracuse. And we don't need a crazy amount to get him.

That's why the pressure on the University to make the right decision is so immense.

A bidding war with Providence? Yeah, a big no on that.

Hypothetically just out of curiosity: IF Hopkins is hired as the coach and gets SU back in the top 25 and vying for a top 5 NCAA seed, all these posters who say they’re “done” and won’t be fans anymore if he’s hired won’t come running back right? Lol

Saying they are "done" is probably just hyperbole for the most part... they will just be extremely pissed and frustrated with the decision, and could well distance themselves initially which I think is justifiable.

College sports is littered with assistant coaches that should’ve been amazing given their pedigree then were terrible. At the same time som coaching trees have been known to just have that special sauce to always win.

I know BH is the better option than Hop or the in family hire I just am not saying he’s the greatest coach on earth like some here. No one ever really knows which is why I posted some of my comments today.
But he’s now proven himself as a head coach! Now you’re just going to ignore that part.?

Who were coaches that were not great in their first P5/P6 run, had to wait a while to get back, and then were successful on their second run back to P5.

There has to be a few right?

“The greatest coach on earth”? lol. Who’s saying that or even thinking that’s possible? This is about making the best hire possible in this current market. Which would be in some order: Schertz, Calhoun, Hodgson, Olen, and maybe a couple of others.

You know what we haven't considered. BH wins a couple of games in the tournament and suddenly
Ohio st wants him. Better job than ours. What then?
Ohio State will probably target a big experienced name like Otzelberger. The job also probably won’t even open up this season, per several basketball writers.
