Surely the administration is making calls. I would be absolutely shocked if there aren’t discussions taking place now. That said, unlikely that he or anyone else has been confirmed as the new HC. The question is, is there a scenario where we have a coach committed silently before the tournament kicks off…If Cuse2023 is correct, Hodgson isn't signing a contract extension with them, and if we haven't locked him up before March Madness starts then that is a terrible move and miscalculation on our part, because if they do win their conference tournament, they will be one of the media favorites for the 12/11 seed upset, because they score so much and play pressure defense. That media attention will draw in other universities, so if he is our guy, we need to lock it up before then. We have just over 2 weeks to make that happen behind the scenes.

Yeah could you imagine if they did a search in 2017 after the final four run what kind of candidates they would have had then too? I know hop was supposed to get the job then but goodness that’s where all this went wrong in my opinion
The only definite lock him up is by signing a contract. Which he can’t do prior to the end of their season unless he plans on resigning before the NCAA tournament. If Cuse2023 is correct, Hodgson isn't signing a contract extension with them, and if we haven't locked him up before March Madness starts then that is a terrible move and miscalculation on our part, because if they do win their conference tournament, they will be one of the media favorites for the 12/11 seed upset, because they score so much and play pressure defense. Verbal agreements can absolutely happen before a season ends. It happened multiple times last year. Obviously, nothing can be made “official” or signed until the timing is right, so it really depends on how you define “lock him up.” If a verbal agreement is in place, I’d consider that locked up.
For example, Darian DeVries’ deal was reportedly agreed to before the season ended and then announced after the final game. The same thing happened with Ben McCollum to Iowa; the agreement was done, and it was announced right after Drake’s season ended.
Call it whatever you want, but these things are often decided well before the official announcement is made and the pen is officially put to paper.

more like USFT (mix up the letters)USF is a wanna-be program!

verbal agreements as well as agreements in principle can change or gotten out of. and i was disagreeing with the lock him up part.Verbal agreements can absolutely happen before a season ends. Curry Hicks Sage discussed Syracuse on his latest Spaces tonight. Not the biggest fan of the guy, but he does have good sources. Mike Waters was listening in the session but didn't say anything. A rundown of the most important takes:
- Source told him that SU will make an AD hire in "72 hours". Norlander wrote the hire will come before March 10th.
- Lyke was never likely to get the AD job, even before tonight's news. Wondered how she was even hired at Syracuse in the first place (That makes all of us).
- The money is there to fire Autry, but conversations with new HC candidates are not underway like they are for other imminently open jobs, like Providence.
- It could be worth it for SU to overpay for Schertz given the "lack of sure fire candidates" in this search.
- Hodgson is "really good", "a young, upstate NY guy who would love to be at Syracuse", "viable candidate" for the job. Could bring a lot of excitement, especially if he gets hot in the tournament.
- Brought up Matt Langel (YAWN).
- Hopkins is "awesome" but can't overlook his bad record at UW. "Had a little bit of success but didn't really get it done".
- Seemed that he didn't know much about the Melo/Hopkins rumors, but did say that the new AD can't let Melo have too much input in the HC search just because he is Melo.
- Said that Lally is "involved" in basketball, which contradicts what some have said on here. Wondered if the new coach can end the "drama" that exists between him and Weitsman. Getting the two potential biggest donors for the program aligned in one direction would help any program, but Syracuse isn't the only place dealing with that type of infighting.

Man, it sounds like we are behind the eight ball already. Even if Wildhack has announced his retirement, I really hope he’s laying the groundwork with Hodgson and Schertz’s agents and any other possible top candidates. And then he can give the new AD the possibilities and his recommendation. I really worry that the new guy, unless it’s Goodrich, isn’t going to be up to speed and knowledge on the candidates. Ugh. I almost hope Wildhack is making the hire in consultation with the BOT and whoever the new AD will be.
What a bs sign minus the drinking before 10 am is ok![]()

I'd guess it depends on how you define what "the start of the HC search process" is. We've certainly kicked the tires on a few coaches, and some kicked back. Chris Mack was supposedly ruled out already (who ruled out who, I don't know), and the reason Hopkins showed up in Cuse recently wasn't because he missed Wegmans.Be shocked.
It's being reported no backchanneling with coach agents is going on with us currently and that we will not start the HC search process untill the new AD is in place.
Hopefully those reports are untrue.

I mean, I have no confirmation of either event, but I certainly believe them.
