He left a little over a year ago. I think he had injury issues.Today the NIL budget as the number one question and the only way you can field a deep talented team. Some exceptions exist when you get a 5 year player like Ryan Kalkbrenner who is not all about money and loyal to a team and coach. B
Peter Carey?
Providence isn't B.C. or St Bonny. If offered, I think he would almost have to take it.I think he will stay at Siena for at least another two years.
I think he wants to build something there - win a regular season championship, make the NCAAT a bit,
win at least a first round game. Establish a culture that can endure after he leaves, assuming they make a decent hire.
Plus the fans love him there, his players love him, his family loves it there - I just cant see him chucking it all for the bonnies, or Providence or BC.
The one thing that I thought would always be a huge plus for him as a head coach is he can set the example.
He can walk the walk so to speak.
He isn't asking these kids to do anything more than he did as a player.
He worked his ass off, never ever gave up.
And they saw with him that he got results - because he put the work in and always hustled.
Also assuming tomorrow is guaranteed for him performance wise is unwise. If he’s independently wealthy already maybe the massive bounce in pay is irrelevant but I don’t think Gerry has made millions in his careerProvidence isn't B.C. or St Bonny. If offered, I think he would almost have to take it.
I think Mulvey will apply for an extra season. He was hurt the first two years at Iowa. He was another of the injured earlier. Had a bad concussion that kept him out of 8 games.I think Mulvey will apply for an extra season. He was hurt the first two years at Iowa. Roomates with Doty and they are close.
Gmac isn’t getting hired at a P5 school this year. There are many more accomplished coaches out there for them to choose from right now. Take your orange colored glasses off (I hate that phrase but I have to say it here). That said, I could see him getting an offer from a higher level mid-major in the A-10 or American, probably in the Northeast. But as others have said, if he leaves Siena, he’ll want good resources at the new school in order to compete in his conference.PC or BC for Gmac contrary to the wine and cheese folks here think About the backwoods of chestnut hill (west Providence is kinda back woods). PC has a real fan base and interest. To me that job is sneaky good.
I don’t know dude. I’m in the capital region too and I don’t see a sports town here unless you like horseracing.A couple of the right portal additions and I can see that program taking off. I live in the Capital Region and I think the Siena job is sneaky good. It's a great area and super convenient to a lot of fun places. I'm moving back to CNY soon because I have strong roots there, but otherwise I would be quite content here.
Hopefully they can schedule some high-majors next year and don't have the same issues as Miami (OH) this year on that front.
Let’s see how he does. If he makes a run why not. He’s not a normal mid major coach. He’s a legend to the national media and will get plenty of outsized media if he catches lightening in a bottleGmac isn’t getting hired at a P5 school this year. I wouldn’t bet against GMAC getting a P5 offer this year. He might sit for a year for a better offer, but that’s a dangerous bet. It's a big jump up. But maybe a BC or Providence would consider it. Particularly given his known name and regional status..I wouldn’t bet against GMAC getting a P5 offer this year. He might sit for a year for a better offer, but that’s a dangerous bet. Siena might not be as good next year.
Not much going on downtown, but the Arena is a professional facility. Historically, Albany just won't support a professional minor league team in any team for an extended period of time.I don’t know dude. I’m in the capital region too and I don’t see a sports town here unless you like horseracing.
Maybe your experience is different but I don’t see Siena going anywhere. Albany in itself has fallen behind places even like Troy amd Schenectady nearby lately but I know they have money coming in to revitalize the downtown but still.
Amen. A bird in the hand folks…I agree that if GMac gets a chance to move up to a better conference and a better coaching position, he should take it. P4 or not. Should always keep trying to move up if offered.
Fran, Louie, Paul Hewitt….it used to be a great stepping stone program until Jimmy Patsos and Carmen M ran it into the ground. It's a big jump up. But maybe a BC or Providence would consider it. Particularly given his known name and regional status..

The SBU situation is certainly an interesting one. When Woj came on, he was adamant publicly that he worked for Schmidt. Turns out that relationship didn't quite work out that way. It looks like the SBU GM has way more power than basically any other GM in college hoops.Woj Bomb.
No offense to Providence, but if that is one of the top jobs this cycle, it is a very, very down cycle.Happy for Gerry, and he’s doing a really solid job at Siena, but people here are completely overestimating his stock.
Providence is going to be one of the best openings of the cycle. They are not hiring Gerry, and they won’t even give him a call. From what I know about BC, he’s not one of the names there right now either.
The next logical step for Gerry is probably an
Yes, if you’ve been following the cycle, people have been saying for months that unless we have some surprise retirements, it’s going to be a down year.No offense to Providence. but if that is one of the top jobs this cycle, it is a very, very down cycle.
If he makes the NCAAT this year, his stock may never be higher and I have to imagine he jumps if offered (anything other than BC or buttgers). There’s just too much volatility and items that are outside your control in low majors to stick around if you don’t have toI think he will stay at Siena for at least another two years.
