I'm okay with this. He can say what he wants but it's unfortunately not going to deter weasels being weasels. Nonetheless, I like his moxy.
I like it also, but I can see how some of the cultural elite that will decide this would not be so thrilled.

Orange Nation callers for an hour straight were on Gerry and Siena. It got repetitive. They have moved from Hop to Gerry over the weekend. They clearly do not come to this board.
The hosts kept saying they think SU goes outside the family this round.
I can’t believe that everyone doesn’t realize that a change (outside of the family) is not needed but required right now.

I’m not in favor of hiring GMAC over Hodgson at all, but this is some random strange out of the way metric.

Hodgson is simply achieving at a higher level than GMAC right now. It’s an easier sell to the fan base in general.

I’m getting meathead vibes, not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Scott Shafer energy!

I've been calling into that show since end of January telling these brain dead listeners to get out of the CNY bubble. Alot of these folks don't watch cbball outside of SU and Hopkins at UW, Gerry at Siena so they have no perspective outside of SU affiliation.

I wish Harvard would just go donornuts and field a $40M NIL team and scorch the field and win the championship.

Wonder if that would force a change.

NIL is disgusting on so many levels. Not seeing how it won't just get worse for the game.
Colleges have been playing players for ever. The SU NC football team had players getting paid by boosters.

Not needed but required? Huh?

True. But they were students enrolled who then got some under the table money, not mercenaries who were paid to cone to the school and play one year.

You know, it does matter what type of situation a coach walks into.
Is the team mildly disappointing, very disappointing or a dumpster fire?
It takes an incredibly good coach to turn around a program that literally has nothing going for it and get them to the brink of their conferences championship only 2 years later.

Siena won 4 games the year before Gerry came. They were about as close to a dumpster fire as it gets.
Last place in their conference, hadn't been to a conference championship game in 9 years, hasn't been to the NCAAT in 16 years.

Got 14 wins in first year, 22 wins and still counting in second year.
That is one hell of an improvement, whether you are a fan of GMAC or not.
And he is doing it with literally 7 scholarship players for the last few weeks, 8 for a few weeks before that.

Hodgson took over 2 13 win teams, one just a year removed from a 25 win season.
You seem to have discounted SF's 25-8 season in 23-24. Why isn't that the best? BH only has 23 wins so far.
He did very well but he did not have to literally start from scratch at either place. There was something there that he could build on.

Listen I have no problem with hiring Hodgson, he has experience with taking over very disappointing teams and turning them around. I pray he can have another big turnaround season if we do indeed hire him.

I honestly think some people discount what Gerry has done because he was part of the Boeheim tree and thus must be tainted and unable to be a decent coach. God forbid we don't exorcise JB and his followers from the Dome before it is too late.

I want Gerry to stay at Siena for awhile longer to build on his legacy and resume.
whoa. a longwinded defense presentation of gerry?!?!?!

All this time I was thinking GMac was a good coach. I’ve been brain dead the whole time. Thank you…..thank you for giving me fresh perspective. DOWN WITH ALL BOEHEIM ATTACHMENTS!!!

I haven't said he was bad, I said the listeners have no perspective to candidates outside of SU affiliation. There's a difference. 3 years ago the search was too narrow. We can't afford that mistake once again. I just don't see them choosing the runner up from 3 years ago this time around. Would be too narrow minded once again.

The unexpected rise of Keaton Wagler at Illinois

after reading this article want to throw a name out there: Illinois assistant coach Tyler Underwood, Brad's son and Wagler's primary recruiter.

i think this article deserves its own thread but too lazy to make it

for one, in the NIL era, a guy who can find the diamonds in the rough would be worth his weight in diamonds

for 2, i really like his approach to talent id:

Illinois scouts players through four pillars: positional size, basketball IQ, basketball character and no skill deficiencies.

"We thought he was 4-of-4, which is very rare," Tyler Underwood said.

this approach is the right one!

when was the last time SU had even 1 player with no skill deficiencies? SUs recruiting approach goes off of HS rankings and thats it

any school can find talent if they go off this way instead of just buying into the hype

Same thing talking with people at the last couple Cuse games. Only the diehards know all the names and faces.

Gerry wasn't really the runner up. He wasn't even interviewed for the job from what I hear.
