Coach Search Options after Autry

Wouldn’t BH or any other coach “playing meaningful games in March” and taking a new job want things kept quiet until his season is over….also, he would want to tell his players first?
Of course. It's just that none of us can hold our wad.

Bingo.

Also, all of this money comes from the same place = wealthy boosters.

The direct payments that schools can pay to players is not going to come from their general fund or media revenue. Schools are soliciting donors to fund it.

NIL is also funded by donors.

When people suggest that hoops-onlies have an advantage because "they don't have to pay football" it ignores the fact that the money is all coming from the same place = people. Hoops-onlies are inherently smaller schools with fewer alumni that give.

Maybe a few hoops-onlies have a whale who's happy to donate $10 million a year, but I doubt it.

That's kinda what I wondered about all of this. Essentially the day of the ruling, we said we were allotting the full $20.5M. I'm guessing we didn't have $20.5M lying around in our budgets from all revenue sources less expenses (and excluding capital costs)?

I feel pretty confident that Providence doesn't.

one caveat. yes its the same people donating to nil or revenue sharing. but i dont know about other schools but su didnt get anywhere near $20m in donations for rev sharing. so some $$$ does have to be budgeted by su.

Important callout, thanks.

I wonder where the differential is coming from at SU?

I think if Hodgson goes to Providence that means Syracuse picked GMac and there are going to be problems up on the Hill. People higher up than on this message board will have to answer a ton of questions.

IF Hodgson goes to Providence over SU there will be a multitude of factors at play beyond SU picking Gmac over him. Need to let it play out a bit.

Which honestly should not be any issue given the media rights payouts we get annually and that have increased ~$4.5M per year with last payout around $44/$45M. There's likely another bump in our next media payment.

And what happens with schools (like our friends in New Jersey) that are publicly in a huge deficit. How do they even pay kids at all from the revenue share side.

It would be nice if the NIL side was truly audited for the deals they put through, but I can't imagine they will be. Feels like a rubber stamp for those with big enough checkbooks.

dont know where in the budget it come but as others have already said much of it from acc payouts.

Correct that is why I said people on the Hill will have tons of questions to answer not the people on this message board.

Right but I am just saying it's not improbable that SU could choose Hodgson and he still ends up at Providence. Even though I think SU would be a clear choice there some rumblings out there about finances etc.

they've been very tight lipped on the budget hit but in theory, it's probably close to the $20M. Most folks don't want to fund revenue sharing or NIl. They can try to claim donations went up after they launched that campaign but it's probably hard to earmark things.

The reality is they need to fund it out of revenue and conference payouts. Fans don't care that we have to pay players and that the players have a scholarship cost associated with them.

you're gonna ask me a rutgers question? lol.

They keep running deficits and get subsidized by the state.

In our case, we're getting "subsidized" by the general fund now but that's all dependent on how things are accounted for with scholarships, shared expenses, etc. There are smarter finances folks on here than me but you can make the accounting look good or bad depending on your goals.

I dont think there is a possible way that if BH is our 1st choice, he ends up at Providence. He has been after this job for 2 years. I can be wrong of course but that makes zero logical sense. At worst this Providence chatter is to make sure he gets what he wants or close to it.
